Still have my 06 STi that I bought brand new in Feb 2006. I was 26 years old. I've managed to keep it clean and STOCK for real, never modified. I get the itch to modify it sometimes then just realize how much I enjoy it as is. I cringe at having to replace it someday due to a bad accident or theft. You are right though, almost 20 years old and even taking care of it I still deal with little stupid things like the factory steering wheel just not looking as good anymore and finding a factory replacement is impossible. I wanted to fix the rear clunk, just never have and factory replacement struts alone are north of $600 a piece...what?! Anyways, love the channel and keep up the GD stuff. Been enjoying the Hawkeye series. Ever get a P0442 (small evap leak)? It’s like chasing a ghost. I’ve got a new filler cap, replaced evap solenoids under the hood and lines. Didn’t work! Wasn’t cheap! I’m about to replace the gaskets on the fuel pump tank seal and fuel tank sending unit. Next might be the valve at the carbon canister. Thoughts?
Thank you so much for this video this is what I'm dealing with on my 03 bug eye, Atwell as 2 misfires to where the engine won't turn over changed everything plugs, coil packs valve cover gaskets I'm down to exhaust valves and guids...grrrr
Been chasing a P0171 on my freshly rebuilt hybrid EJ25 for 4 months. Fixed all the small leaks, still throwing the code. Starting to think it’s the base map.
With the number of forced induction cars you usually are under and modifying, have you given any thought to one of the vaccum leak detection tools? The unit I've got is the commercial grade SmokePro that burns mineral oil(baby oil) and has a connection for an air compressor that pushes the smoke through the entire intake tract at less than 10psi. It will literally find a pin hole and look like a little steam train's stack venting at every leak. It saved my sanity when first getting into turboed cars. I think they are down to around $600 now, less than half what i paid when they first hit the market.
I’ve debated it, but that little $6 pressure tester had not failed me yet for finding leaks. The smoke tester would make visually seeing it easier. But the bubbles don’t lie either lol
If I had to characterize the older Subies, I would say that they feel much more "raw" or "unrefined", but in a good way. With the older cars, the driver mod becomes way more important, especially on highly modified examples , sometimes pushing more than double the OEM power levels. In the older cars, absent are most of the electronics and features that will make you look like a hero, whereas the older ones will tell on you every time.
Loving it. Need to fix something thats broken. Im doing it bit by bit even thow the things breaking with wear and tear but getting there. But like you said why not just fit them as they brake
So, minus all the minor stuff that costs a fortune... what did the IAG long block run? Im considering dropping 11-12k but i can't seem to find the semi closed decks.. i do play in the dirt with mine so I'm not looking for a ridiculous amount of power. Probably in the 400 range..
Recently purchased a 2006 STI myself and TBH I think I'm going to go wingless / CF DO LUCK trunk with this GD. I like the STI wing, But seeing the wing wiggle bothers me even if it is designed to flex.
Damn does the sti look mint. Running a lil late Chief. I was doing the front bumper camera install on the Saaaaab Also. Ordered new hosing for my washer reservoir. The leak was due to the old hoses crumbling apart 😅

Hey Tanner, I'm having an electrical issue with my 08 STI. Randomly my "door open" light came on while the car was in storage. I've checked all the door sensors including getting a new rear hatch sensor/lock mechanism at a junkyard. I simply can't figure it out, and haven't found much help online. Any ideas?
I need to do this also because my tuner said I must have a boost leak. Does this fill the whole system or just stuff before the throttle body? Is this a dumb question? I don't know what Im doing haha Keep the wing forever! Keep the wing... keep the wing
Yo Tanner, I need help trying to understand speed density I wrote down what you want said about the two wires do I just buy the sensor hook it all up Or do I need to change the tune? I don’t want to run maf sensor anymore.
okay so i've watched a video, downloaded another to watch, and will finish watching this. Im an hd fleet mechanic with an 07 impreza 2.5i. Hopefully you'll give me a straight answer cos i already trust the source. how much is involved in sti cloning it beyond the engine and transmission, will i be able to buy sti parts and put em on? e.g. redo the suspension with new control arms and coilovers and sway bars etc (probably going whiteline for most of that ngl) or is this more of a "build a chassis dolly" situation?
I have a 2018 wrx sti and it runs good for 20 minutes and the starts to over heat even after I changed the thermostat with a OEM thermostat. The top hose going to the radiator is hot and the bottom hose is cold 🥶 any help will be appreciated

Gaskets, then check around the charcoal canister for leaks 🫡
My bugeye doesnt have that little red light, its just the parking lights, never seen that, might be for the older subaru safety flashing thingy
Interesting, I’ve never seen that either 😅
Love the videos and also a proud owner of gd sti oem jdm+ build. The cost for them and parts are going up.
Man speaks facts, good OE stuff is $$$
Good progress I really love the Hawkeye!!!
She getting there 🥳
Thank you so much for this video this is what I'm dealing with on my 03 bug eye, Atwell as 2 misfires to where the engine won't turn over changed everything plugs, coil packs valve cover gaskets I'm down to exhaust valves and guids...grrrr
You should turn the little red light into a secret button that does something
Been chasing a P0171 on my freshly rebuilt hybrid EJ25 for 4 months. Fixed all the small leaks, still throwing the code. Starting to think it’s the base map.
I think I'm gonna cop a new Imprezzy RS cuz of your channel making me wanna switch from honda to suwubu
I fixed so many little things on my fxt. I get what your saying
Subarus are like old dogs that tug on the heartstrings. You just gotta take care of them. 🐶🐶🚙🚙
This is too true 😅😢
The one thing I hate is having to buy special tools. The one thing I love is that they're built like legos.
you could paint the by pass vaulve where you weldered so it hides it a bit
Man that weld looks sooo……much better than what I can do! #truth 😅
Ngl ive never seen the hype in older wrx chassis when the gr chassis is newer and similarly priced
I bet my opinion will change once i drive one lol
When you drive a modified one I promise that’ll change. I sold my first STI (08) for an 07 years ago. There’s something about the Gds 🤌
My 05 Sti entire trunk was missing as well smfh..clean hawkeye!!
IMHO the JDM Subarus are the best, you have ej207, 300 hp legacy, twin turbo, tons of options and they are well maintained.
So my engine blew in my 04 wrx java black pearl :( should I swap sti in it and build that or save for something else? I want a R32 gtst
IMO build the Subaru, coming from someone who’s owned a GTST it ain’t worth it.
@@Smeedia Okay :] thank you for advice
I only have IAG Heads, using a RA short block 🫡 tbh stock case rod+ piston motor sounds ideal for you
Recently purchased a 2006 STI myself and TBH I think I'm going to go wingless / CF DO LUCK trunk with this GD.
I like the STI wing, But seeing the wing wiggle bothers me even if it is designed to flex.
DO LUCK TRUNK IS THE MOVE!!!!! 😍
i'm a wingless boi too. have you considered doing a 2018+ steering rack swap? I would love to see it done and hear your thoughts
I’ve done it before in Gds and tbh it is not worth the haste to make em fit 😅
Clear tails would be sweet on this
They came factory clear 😅
@Smeedia I told you I'm a honda guy 😄 🤣 go back to them. I don't know shit about subarus, but enjoy your content
Damn does the sti look mint.
Running a lil late Chief. I was doing the front bumper camera install on the Saaaaab
Also. Ordered new hosing for my washer reservoir. The leak was due to the old hoses crumbling apart 😅
I will be rockin a wingless soon i think they look cool but in two minds on adding that little lip spoiler they but on the A line ones.
15:40 "Every single GD chasis, the entire trunk goes missing somehow"
I literally just bought an 05 sti and the entire trunk is missing 😆😭
4:11/4:12. The wing is a cool. Wingless. Is Cleaner! Imo 💯😇🤷🏼♂️💪🔥🤘🤘
bought my 06 sti with 60k miles for 20k from a guy who desperately needed cash like 6 months ago passed every test with flying colors stock never modded its a beauty
hi tanner do you think its worth deleting the upper expansion tank on these car im currently going rotated with a g30-770 but wasnt sure how to delete the lines
Only delete the tank if you absolutely have to. It not a bad thing to keep if you can
@@Smeedia what I was considering do you like the killer b v2 tank ? I watched your video on the hawk eye seems a pain to bleed the coolant with out it in these cars
$400 for a third brake light!!!! Good lawd that's a lot of money!!! Everything is looking on the bright side with the lighting upgrades. What brand did you use for the reverse and taillight bulbs? In the meantime, just put some painters tape on the flares to get the haters off. 😂
Diode dynamics for them 🫡 and right?! I ain’t paying $400 for a damn light 😂😂😂
@Smeedia thanks for the info. I found a few legit wing lights for $150, that's still too much, jeebus...
Any ideas?
also the reason you cant find a trunk carpet is cause the weather seals are buns and leak.
This is facts 😂 dude I swear every GD has missing trunk pieces lmao
i have a mint 2018 sti limited with 17000 miles. What kind of value does it hold, where is the value going to be in 5 years?
Tbh I don’t see Vas holding value long term. They made SO many of them 🥲
I wonder if Diode Dynamics makes a LED kit for the OEM third break light assembly...
I need to do this also because my tuner said I must have a boost leak. Does this fill the whole system or just stuff before the throttle body? Is this a dumb question? I don't know what Im doing haha
Keep the wing forever! Keep the wing... keep the wing
It will fill the charged area, the Tb will be open every so slightly but shouldn’t effect the pressurized area. If it’s leaking, it’ll show
Yo Tanner, I need help trying to understand speed density I wrote down what you want said about the two wires do I just buy the sensor hook it all up Or do I need to change the tune? I don’t want to run maf sensor anymore.
You’ll need a tune adjustment once you have it all set up 🫡
okay so i've watched a video, downloaded another to watch, and will finish watching this.
Keep the wing forever!
I have a 2018 wrx sti and it runs good for 20 minutes and the starts to over heat even after I changed the thermostat with a OEM thermostat. The top hose going to the radiator is hot and the bottom hose is cold 🥶 any help will be appreciated
