Fred Luddy back in the day, the 1 had a skip stop service in the bronx. It was the 9 train and it ran the entire 1 train route with express service in the bronx. The skip stop service was discontinued in 2005, due to low ridership.

If it was back in the 70s and 80s I would be terrified, the news would tell you don't be on trains after 9pm that is when most crimes were committed. Besides i was still a kid and my parents were home from work by 6pm. J train comes in 25 mins? That's why there was a lot of crimes committed long waiting time and the 7 was bad too especially waiting outside not in underground it gets very cold when your not moving.

During this time (N) & (R) both ran Broadway Local via Montague Tunnel. Express (Q) & (W) came later via the bridge using the "Not in Service tracks" seen in this video. Unfortunately "9/11" caused CHAOS on the Broadway Line in lower Manhattan South of Canal Street so it took years & various route changes to get the current line-up as Express (N) & (Q) & Local (R) & (W).
It's almost as if the person recording knew these videos would be valuable today!
