I only took the E train at 7th Ave & i think it was 53rd Street, going back to Queens, when school day ended. The station was deserted. Someone was going to attack me, and i was so lucky the train came and i jumped on. My nerves were shattered for a long time after that. I think i was only 15.

If it was back in the 70s and 80s I would be terrified, the news would tell you don't be on trains after 9pm that is when most crimes were committed. Besides i was still a kid and my parents were home from work by 6pm. J train comes in 25 mins? That's why there was a lot of crimes committed long waiting time and the 7 was bad too especially waiting outside not in underground it gets very cold when your not moving.

I just realized them closing the passages from the Lexington Avenue line was a retarded move. Walking along the N/Q platform during rush hour is asking for a death wish.

I agree. There was some kind of minor spruce up of the station complex done around 1990 with non-standard signs. More helpful to the public than whatever as there before.

During this time (N) & (R) both ran Broadway Local via Montague Tunnel. Express (Q) & (W) came later via the bridge using the "Not in Service tracks" seen in this video.
Unfortunately "9/11" caused CHAOS on the Broadway Line in lower Manhattan South of Canal Street so it took years & various route changes to get the current line-up as Express (N) & (Q) & Local (R) & (W).
