The guy was saying “it’s there” but his accent made it sound like “it’s dare”. Damon liked it better as dare so it stuck.
It fits the song perfectly because it is basically about voyeurism and not daring to be yourself.

No it's really not and it really wasn't - Shaun Ryder's first group "The Happy Mondays" (third album Pills Thrill &Bellyaches - amazing album) imploded because of his addiction to crack cocaine (The movie - 24 Hour Party People documents this perfectly) when he returned with his second group, Black Grape, in the mid 90's the first album was called "It's great when you're straight" and "D.A.R.E." Is Drug Abuse Resistance Education from schools in the UK in the 90's. Saying it was gonna be "It's There" but changed because of Shaun's accent is laughable - stop reading shit off of Wikipedia it's bad I can only compare this to the D12/Eminem song Purple Hills/Purple Pills + lyrics.
Been a massive fan of Shaun Ryder since the mid 80's I'm not reading this somewhere I'm remembering it.

It's basically a solo project from Damon Albarn of Blur, and animation character design from Jamie Hewlett. The rest are a rotating cast of guest stars--De La Soul, Del tha Funkee Homosapien, and others. In this song, the man was Shaun Ryder from the UK band Happy Mondays, with Rosie WIlson.
It's brilliant because while the animated characters never change, in a sense, their music will continually change.
This is a great song. They have so many others, this is a rabbit hole that's totally worth it! One song that doesn't get checked out much from Demon days is "Fire coming out of the monkeys head" so unique!

The guy saying 'It's Dare' is Shaun Ryder from 'The Happy Mondays'. They were a big band from Manchester in the 90s. You should listen to 'Kinky Afro' or 'Step On' from 'The Happy Mondays'. The person singing is actually a guy. It's Damon Albarn (front man of 'Blur' and 'The Gorillaz'). Blur were a huge Brit-Pop band (also from the 90s). Blur have a large catalogue of music you could wade through too. :) ***Edit*** It is also a woman singing on the track. Her name is Rosie Wilson (another guest on the track) ... I'd always thought it was just Damon with some effects (every day is a school day).

The Legend that is Shaun Ryder.... definitely need to check out The Happy Mondays- 24 hour Party people, Step Up , Kinky Afro to name a few . Shaun and the Mondays were influential in the Madchester scene and vital in both Factory records and the Hacienda. A real rock n roll story from dosing pigeons with E to blowing there recording budget on weed and brown in Jamaica, crashing their jeep. Had the pleasure of meetings Shaun when I was working nextdoor to his house and met his Dad and brother a few times at gigs in Manchester in the 90s
Every character and the animated band itself has a super rich back story and it's crazy. It's like a whole anime that we only get glimpses of. Damon (the music guy) and Jamie (the illustrator) are geniuses.
basically Damon and Jamie make a general storyline or theme up, then Damon goes in the studio and writes all these awesome songs, and he and the producer of the album get lots and lots of guest artists, like the girl in this song, and make tons of songs and ideas and then find which stuff fits best with the original concepts they had, and then they make videos to go with it. That's why you'll hear lots of guest singers and rappers and such.
There are videos on TH-cam explaining the entire storyline of the animated band and it's a whole rabbit hole.

Noodle is a girl, she's roughly 13 in the Dare video. She's also the youngest member of the band as a whole. with Murdoc being around 40 at the time of the video, 2-D in his low-mid 30's, and Russel in his mid 30's. She's also the only regular female member of the band (not counting her android duplicate "Robo-Noodle" from the Plastic Beach album.
The musician behind Gorillaz (Damon) is also the lead singer in a band called Blur. Their biggest song (in the US anyway) is called Song 2. You should look it up, you might recognise it!

I head he was pretty drunk during the recording and that's why it sounds like "Dare" instead of "There", he was slurring the word basically. Just what I heard, can neither confirm nor deny.
After happy Mondays he was in group black grape.i believe he's from Manchester which is north England hence the accent.

Another fun fact (according to Damon Albarn ) Damon was in the mixing room and was asking Sean about the levels and could he let him know when he was happy with it, Sean said...it's coming up,it's coming up it's coming up...it's there (dare), when Damon sat down at the mixing desk he liked what Sean said...hence we got Dare.

REACT TO GORILLAZ - 'STYLO' NEXT - brilliant video! Gorillaz are a trip - their whole concept - even their 1st concerts were animated projections! They're UK based and even we didn't know who the band members were for a while. Most of their stuff is chilled, funk, trip hop, rap/rock, but their videos are always second level and SOOOO creative. The main singer is Damon Albarn from a band called 'Blur' that were big in the 90's as part of the 'BritPop' scene. He was the only permanent member of Gorillaz with other members coming and going and loads of guest artists. Check out them at Glastonbury when Snoop comes out and raps on Clint Eastwood - audience members mind blown!🤯🤣 (traditionally intoxicated on whatever to make 'em 'Feel Good')
The demon days album is literal perfection every song is amazing . it's a concept album so listening from beginning to end . maybe you could do a live stream of that . also watching a live song is a trip . I've watched the live in Manchester on DVD and it was amazing
Gorillaz are unique.
Great observation about the mixture of musical styles. I've always thought of them as kind of a mix of alternative and electronic and Hip-Hop and Club.
It's Damon Albarn (lead singer of the band Blur) he has that ability to have that sort of feminine voice. In this song it's a bit more falsetto than his parts in "Feel Good Inc" (for example) -- which I think you guys already reacted to.
The female voice in the song is by Rosie Wilson, but Damon is supplying some backing vocals that can faintly be heard in the background.
BTW Asia the female voice is London R&B singer Roses Gabor
If you do the official video of Song 2 by Blur, you'll see who the lead singer / creator of Gorillaz is, Damon Alburn. You'll know the song too, I'm sure.

Listen to the whole concept album Demon Days that this comes from. Then it will make more sense. It’s one long story that connects and runs through each song, and the whole album is incredible. Not one skippable track. Very creative storyline. Every track is 🔥🔥🔥 too.
Fun Band, I saw them live here in Lawrence Kansas in a fairly small venue several years ago and it was sold out and really fun.

Shaun Ryder is the guy who sings "It's There" and the other singers are Damon Albarn who is the Gorillaz founder and lead vocalist and Rosie Wilson.
This song got to number 1 in the UK and is the Gorillaz only number 1 hit.
Damon Albarn had another UK band called Blur before he founded the Gorillaz and Blur were in a battle with another huge UK band which you might have heard of called Oasis back in the 90's. Oasis are also worth checking out. You might have heard their most famous track Wonderwall. If not its definitely worth a reaction to it.
Shaun has a bit of a speech impediment. He can't properly pronounce "th", they come out sounding like "d". So when he tried to say, "it's there" it came out "it's dare". "...you're there yourself" came out "you're dare yourself" (listen closely and you'll hear the difference). Albarn heard that and titled (retitled?) the song "Dare".

Loved this band (and the animated characters. Noodle/2-D/Russel/Murdoch) since Clint Eastwood was released and still listen to them religiously. Their wide range of different genres makes them enjoyable to listen too whatever mood you're in

2d was the falsetto male singer not female. In the animation. Murdock was the guy telling the human to go to back to sleep dear, at the end of the video. When "Russell " the drummer sings he does rap most often. Noodle that wasn't in this video is the only female character.

When you watch feeing good Inc the charities that plays the guitar on the flying windmill is the one who is singing in Dare . I don't know if it's true but it's said the group considered itself too ugly to appear in videos so they made cartoon avatars that resemble Gorilla's as that is what they thought they looked like in the animal Kingdom and that's why they call themselfs Gorilla's because at the time there was an advert on TV where a Gorilla's played the drums to something in the air tonight and there drummer looked the same and he said they the others don't look much better and this gave them the idea of the bands name and the use of the avatars as an onstage personal

the cartoons are a diff level to the group as its a huge huge story!!! at this point, noodle, the girl was still a teen, they were living in a haunted isle castle place, thats why it was creepy and had a big head in her room...the music changes just as they use diff musicians and so it fits accordingly!😉🙂✌
