Growing Scorpion Chili Time Lapse - Seed To Fruit In 175 Days

  • Finally! This one took way longer then it should of. I suspect that the growth was delayed due to a fungus gnat infestation i had earlier this year, those pesky larvae feed on the roots of the plant. But it made it through and produced a few chilis.
This yellow variety of the Scorpion Chili is one of the hottest chilis in the world and has about 1 200 000 SHU (Scoville heat units). For reference tabasco sauce has around 5000 SHU and the hottest chili in the world Carolina Reaper has 2 200 000 SHU.

A tip for Fungus Gnats - place some propagation sand about 1 inch deep on top of your soil and never worry about Gnats again - they can't penetrate the sand and fly away. It drains well but keeps moisture in underneath and looks better than soil too - also you have the benefit of protection against other soil pupating stage bugs.

    - 1 x Ring of Fire

They startet to flourish about 8 weeks ago and have gotten around 50 small fruits each now - and still produce new flowers. If they all turn into fruits, I think I have 70-80 habaneros from each plant.

Not enough space in that pot is a fact. Assumptions: small pot means soil holds less water and dries quickly, probably underwatered. Grow lights could have been too far away or too weak. They may not have used enough fertilizer. I don't think so many of those leaves should have came off, and it should have produced way more peppers. But the goal for the video was to make a time lapse which they did a great job of.

Yellowing leaves towards the bottom is a normal part of growth. They are no longer doing much for the plant and can be safely removed. Picking early flowers is also helpful to the overall health of the plant. Nether are necessary but can be beneficial.
