    I simply adore this video! I’m not a vegan, but I really love your channel and your way of cooking, and I’ve been watching you for a while, and right now I can tell you 100% you’re my favorite vegan/fitness/food youtuber. Seeing you criticize your own food choices from like 3 years ago is so refreshing, because even you, someone who works around food and fitness can show us that we can get lost in these trends and deprive ourselves from the things we love just because today coffee is bad, and tomorrow salt is bad. Of course we need moderation in life, but it’s so easy to lost this moderation and fell into this rabbit hole that is “healthy eating” without even truly knowing what is healthy for our bods. This video is a breath of fresh air. I knew I would love it from the beginning. Great job sarah, always looking up to you 💖

    Oil actually has a dual purpose when used in cooking, yes it helps with texture in some instances but also aids in the absorption of vital nutrients. Many veggies have fat-soluble vitamins ie fat needs to be present in the meal for those vitamins to be absorbed so its definitely better that you moved away from fearing fat (your body thanks you for it!).

    • @kaycibacker8278

      i still skip oil in favor of nuts, seeds, avocado, other fatty foods. I'm not against oil and actually cook with it pretty often, but there are healthier alternatives if you're looking to just add fat into your meals

    • @MF-vu2ot
      @MF-vu2ot 5 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      @@stephaniesantos78 Oh I know there are other fat sources that are an alternative to oil, I just find a lot of people who follow the 80/10/10 lifestyle fear even the unprocessed forms of fat (like eating some avocado, nut-butters, or seeds)Sarah is not one of them which is refreshing, she spreads a better message about eating in a balanced way. Yes, fats are a bit more calorie dense, but I just think people shouldn't fear them so much. Most people don't gain weight because they eat avocados, nuts, and seeds, and a bit of oil they use when cooking. It's always the highly processed foods that are part of the standard American diet (I know I used to be 240 pounds, and eating a balanced diet helped me get to a healthy weight (150lbs).

    • @stephaniesantos78
      @stephaniesantos78 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@MF-vu2ot exactly! lowering your intake of processed foods is the easiest way to maintain a healthy weight without even trying. it's so much easier to think "how close is this meal's ingredients to nature" as opposed to "what are the exact calories from fat/carbs/protein in this meal?" and i love vegan processed food from time to time, and in some cases i think it's actually not too bad health wise! but it's so much easier to overeat on that stuff so i keep it at arms length as much as possible lmao

    Oats are so good for you, so I try to spice it up. I make a big batch of steel cut oats so I can divide into jars and freeze extra. When they're cooked I add peanut butter, stevia, and cinnamon. When I'm ready to eat, I pour a little plant milk on top, microwave till warm, and done. Easy, healthy, and tastes like a peanutbutter cookie.

    I was so overweight most of my life and felt shame eating in front of others. I was too conscious of my size and scared of judgment. Wouldn't eat all day and then I would binge at home. Also was food deprived at one parents house and then forced to finish my meals at the other. So messed up eating habits from childhood. Also developed into an emotional eater so definitely have strived to become mindful of that. Kicked a salt addict habit. Still use it, just mindfully. Still have trouble with my eating habits but they're a ton better than a decade ago, even a few years ago. I've lost a ton of weight since having babies and so it's a great opportunity for me to finally be a healthy weight for the first time ever basically. Been hard to not obsess over food and weight gain. Trying to listen to my body. It's a learning curve. I love me some pasta and bread but my digestive issues flare up so trying to be kinder towards my body. Rice noodles here I come! Also been loving carrot and zucchini noodle type veggies. Awesome!

    I really don’t view the potato cleanse as extreme. It’s really helped me and many other people I know to reset your taste buds and cut food addiction. It’s not meant to be followed forever.

    try mashing a super ripe banana, vanilla , cinnamon, 30g quick oats (pure, not the sugared sachet) and add water to cook - i add a lot cuz i like mine soupy too) and cook on stove , soooo yum the banana sweetens it nicely and makes it substantial

    Hi Sarah! How would you summarise how your diet has evolved- how do you balance fat, carbs, protein, veggies etc! I also started thinking HCLF vegan was the way to go based on all the vegan doctors advice. I still think the daily dozen is a good way to eat, but Healthy Crazy Cool is making me rethink allowing more healthy fats too :) Actually sorry you may address all this in this video if I could just be patient and wait!

    • @maryammadani5626

      Healthy Crazy Cool is my fave! Such great nutritional advice. I find including more healthy fats has helped regulate my energy and my appetite. Back when I was HCLF I was constantly eating! I'd have large meals and never really feel satisfied, and I'd take frequent naps.
      I don't track my macros, but I know it's higher fat and protein now. I usually have a protein shake on most days I work out, in addition to the protein from beans and tofu I consume. As far as fats go, I'd bet I still eat less than on a standard American diet, but I love nuts, nut butter, coconut milk and seeds!

    It’s so sad how this reflects my relationship with veganism and how i was so influenced by all the vegan influencers. I suffer/suffered from disorder eating and was absolutely convinced that vegansim would cure my eating disorder and that I could not eat any calories from fat. No matter how many carbs I ate I was never satiated. Ultimately veganism was only furthering my orthorexia, binge eating, and restriction, so I had to quit despite my desire to stick with it. I wish I had been introduced to the healthy outlook on veganism that is more prominent now.

    You should try to make overnight oats with steel cut oats and a creamy plant milk. I add agave, chia seeds, cinnamon and vanilla and it comes out like rice pudding. Perfect for snacks or dessert. I soak mine for like 3 days though. The longer the soak, the softer they get. It’s the only way I can eat them!

    The oatmeal with all of those topping must be about 500 calories! Lol. Ya, steel cut oats are high carb but have fiber. So, not too bad. I love them and just add a date and a Brazil nut, sometimes some vegan milk. Decaf coffee is processed with the same stuff they make nail polish remover with! Look for Swiss water process filtered decaf. Love the video, it was fun to watch you relive the meals and hear your updated comments about it all. Thanks!

    Oh god. This is making me think of my diet in 2016 and wow. It was pretty bad. I didn't start eating healthy until a year a later and then even more so when I found vegan youtube (like I don't think I ever bought greens at that point...)
    I also switched to decaf coffee for my anxiety. I realized my stress levels weren't as bad as when I was in undergrad and was experiencing a ton of anxiety. Two months decaf and no complaints.
    Final thought- I have no idea how you all at 3 potatoes in one sitting. I remember watching Caitlin Shoemaker's "Fry-day" posts back in the day and not understanding. I usually will use one large potato or two if I'm super hungry
    Great video!

    wow! this is so interesting that you looked back at your diet in 2016 because I can totally relate. In 2016, I was doing raw til 4 and I was so scared of fat, like i didn't eat any overt fats. I was so othorexic. I feel like it was so bad for my health to not have been eating fats and enjoying my food. I was so fearful of food. I'm not like that anymore thank goodness, but it's so crazy when I look back at it too. thanks for sharing! I don't think you should do another starch solution video because it didn't make you feel good, but it would be cool to see you update your old zero fat recipes.

    Brown rice and whole grains actually help aid digestion, if you’re having issues with digestion it’s more likely it’s something else you’re eating with the rice than the actual rice itself. Unless of course you have a food intolerance.
