I found a really good post on Reddit by someone who used to work with Max Martin and he laid out the entire stack process. Typically for big pop records it's always 4 stacks per part in the hooks. For Example - LD (C) with Stacks L,R,L,R.... Harmony 1 L,R,L,R.... Harmony 2 L,R,L,R... What's also interesting is their process is 1) Comp LD Vocal 2) Comp Doubles to LD 3) Comp Harmonies 4) Groove Lead (adjusting timing) 5) Align DBLS/HRMS to LD 6) Consolidate and export to Melodyne 7) Export back to Pro Tools
Yeah their vocal stacks are NUTS. To be honest, I always HATED the export vocal, edit vocal in other software, export that and pop it in my DAW. THE ARA integration makes editing so much easier and faster. Now I have no reason to complain 😂
The funny thing about this is that Melodyne doesn't require exporting. The version I have works as a plugin. It does have to be recorded in in real-time, then edited, but it's all inside Cubase. I do all of my time aligning in Melodyne, as well.
Actually, I just saw a TH-cam short by Joshua Casper, from plug-in boutique that showed how in Ableton live you can select a melodyne as the default sampler and simply import a vocal, and hit edit and it will load it- no more waiting! Blew my mind.
Working on a song rn and TH-cam recommended this video. I've been watching you for a few years now. You make a big difference! Kudos to your craft! This video for the sake of education is a goat. Thank you so much, man! 👍🏼
I've recently started using Groove Track in Logic Pro X & I'm definitely loving it so far! Great video, it's great to see that I'm already doing a lot of things the same way, whilst picking up little details!
I’d love to see him cover that as well, just to see his personal approach. A lot of folk/alt music intentionally excludes the hyper-aligned, meticulously tuned, and extra processed sound. Take Bon Iver’s 22, A Million for instance. Simple SM7, Neve+LA2A vocal chain followed by a low cut in protools and occasionally another compressor. Loads of vocal stacks, all panoramic panning. No time aligning. No crazy resonance-subtractive EQs. It’s just a different beast and would love to see his go at it.
Great video. Only just recently found this channel, but I think I'm going to be logging some serious hours here in the near future. LOL, keep up the good quality work.
@MakePopMusic thanks for the response. I have several bugs. For example, i can't drag&drop audio clips inside vocalign or can't capture multiple dubs at the same timr. I've just submitted a support ticket to synchroarts
Don’t think there’s an equivalent. You’re better just routing both dubs to a single track with the same effect :, or just copying the mixer state over to the other track
Imagine the Beatles hearing Everything has to be Vocaligned and tuned when stacking vocals I like this type of editing for dance tracks and super pop but hate it on rock and soul etc feels to robotic Vocalign can leave artifacts any ideas why that might be happening
@@musiclover-r9mI strongly disagree, and I do this professionally for a living. RVP does require a more skilled hand; but its capabilities for detailed editing are unmatched.

You already know what time it is. 🔥
It’s Friday, Friday. Gotta drop vids on Friday 🫶🏻

love ur videos bro they r the best production vids on youtube!

I really like this man's consistency
Yes! Perfect timing Austin. Your tutorials are really helping! THX!
You should make a folklore tutorial. There’s like none out there and I really would love to understand like folk/alt better

This was a great breakdown of your workflow. Thank you!
bro i needed this one so bad, insane timing !! 🎉
Austin stay dropping real gems out here....sheesh
u r always on time i just started getting to the stage of being comfortable with my singing
I am absolutely living for the crocheted shirt
Do you also cut out breaths? Sometimes there’s a breath happening in empty space but only in 1 ear, and it’s kinda distracting too.
Yes.
Favorite production TH-cam channel.
Great video!
Man I'm working on a song right now God knows I needed this A LOT!!! Thank you for always lol...
Yes needed this video
Hi Austin. This session its available for download? Thanks.
Amazing✌🤟🤟🤟
Can you tell me which company of chairs you use?
thank you for this one!
Gems, keep them coming
NEEDED THIS!!!
Do you also use the Cubase build in aligner?
Very nice🎉🎉🎉🎉
I can't get Vocalign to capture dubs.. It always pops out an error saying "There is no selected Dub" :(
What program? Definitely shoot that over to them because I’ve never had that issue.
@MakePopMusic thanks for the response. I have several bugs. For example, i can't drag&drop audio clips inside vocalign or can't capture multiple dubs at the same timr. I've just submitted a support ticket to synchroarts
@@MakePopMusic program is cubase 13, by the way ✌🏻
@@amanoprods There are TONS of bugs in Vocalign and Revoice Pro - check out the gearspace thread... this product is hot trash.
I feel you.... it's better to use the great "Audio Alignment" in Cubase. Same results, great workglow without expensive thirdparty stuff.
I bought it today cause of you
Hey Austin, amazing tutorial! This saved my last mix. 🙌🙌 Do you recommend using a doubler on the Lead if you already have Dubs?
If you want that effect, go for it. I never use doubler as a replacement for dubs. I use it for a stylized effect
@@MakePopMusic Thanks a bunch
How can i do the Q LINK in FL studio?
Don’t think there’s an equivalent. You’re better just routing both dubs to a single track with the same effect :, or just copying the mixer state over to the other track

I like this type of editing for dance tracks and super pop but hate it on rock and soul etc feels to robotic
Vocalign can leave artifacts any ideas why that might be happening
That’s why The Beatles, Soul and Motown endure to this day. Just super talented musicians.
It only make sense to match dubs to lead once the lead is already properly tuned and timed correct ? Or does this work different
The lead needs to be tuned and edited so it can act as the guide for all the dubs and harmonies.
Cubase 13 already has something like this i thought ?
YES !
Hi there, i think it would be rad if you made a song with suno and then copied it! Keep up the great work
Can you post a detailed video on how to record and mix & mastering like PARTYNEXTDOOR
I finally have good news for you.... You'll be excited for our video this week!
@@MakePopMusic YEEEYY ı love you
Vocalign ruins my tracks. It automatically changes the formants of my voice & there's no way to turn it off.
You should be able to choose the tuning / stretching algorithm and that’ll fix it. What version of VOCALIGN?
Same - revoice pro is even worse and more $$$. Timing is off, formant changes, and the pitch correction algo is a total joke.
@@musiclover-r9mthen you might need to refine your process. RVP is amazing.
I use Melodyne first and use the timing only setting in revoice. Gives far better results imo
@@musiclover-r9mI strongly disagree, and I do this professionally for a living.

Lol i like both version, unedited and edited xd...
Bro pls Stephen Sanchez plsssssssss
