    First and most important, Happy Birthday Robbie's Mother, you raised a god son. Now for the less important stuff, I hope you get the stern gland sorted, I hope it is something just beyond simple like the packing has shifted and not something like the shaft is worn.
    Also another flower comment, I live at about 40 and a half degrees North, and you are at about 53 degrees North and I just have stuff poking out of the ground here, we won't have flowers for another week at least, but there will be major snow tomorrow. My Daffodils are about 3 inches tall right now, they won't bloom for weeks. Funny how that works, warm air cums up the South along the East of North America without warming it by staying out at sea, then comes down from the North along the West of Europe and moves inland enough to make it warmer further north.

    I thought only I lived in the part of the world, where you could have plants trying to sprout, as and have snow on the ground at the same time. Happy birthday Rob's mom.

    Keep up the good work, you're mooring up at all the same places as we did it seems - I'm starting to wish I was there again.

    You can re pack the stern gland with the boat still in the water. . Just cut all the packing to length first by wrapping it round the exposed shaft so you end up with several split rings then remove the cap and dig out the old stuff a long self tapping screw and a pair of mole grips is good for that. You only get a steady dribble when you pull out the last piece. Then remain calm and fit the new rings of packing with the joins staggered. Nip it up run it for and hour and re nip it... make sure it doesn't run hotter than a hot cup of tea... to find the right size packing remove the clamps bit and measure the gap between the shaft and the inside of the stern gland thingamy bob...

      Cheers Robert - great to know. I may still have to get someone to do it in order to save cranking time. Also with 0 tools on board it’s hard to fix anything. Not even any gaffer tape!!!

    Good video. Thank goodness for auto bilge pumps. Maybe the two nuts on the gland need tightening to bring the two sections a little further together. I had the same issue. I bet, like me on my maiden voyage you haven't got a spanner! :p They seem a friendly bunch at Anglo Welsh, Wooton Wawen. At Gt Haywood they were brilliant helping me out with an emergency repair and refused any payment. :) Good luck, Robbie.

    The short daily uploads are great, just as good as the others you make us all wait way too long for 😬
    Can you wind in the nut thingmabob for the stern gland at all. It should only need one or one and a half revolutions and some more grease to stop your dripping shaft.

    • @RobbieCumming
      @RobbieCumming  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oohhh ha ha!! I will try - unfortunately the previous owners took all the tools with them and am miles from shops 8^(

      Oohhh ha ha!! Well it’s easier when you just film everything in one day rather than have to go through weeks worth of random clips! Cheers I will try to give that a go - unfortunately the previous owners took all the tools with them and am miles from the shops! 8^o

    Happy birthday Mum!
    My granddaughter is on the 2nd, husbands & grandparents anniversary is on 19th, RIP Grandparents, my son & girlfriend go married on the 20th, my Mom's birthday is on the 25th, & my Dads was on the 28th, RIP Dad, so March is a busy month for us. Can't wait for this month to end... lol...
    That was some pretty views out on the canal today. It was cold here in Missouri today. I told you I would get caught up. It's only 2:48am here. And I'm getting tired, but I told you I would get caught up & I hold my promise... lol...
    Why does the water go over the roads & railroad tracks? Here in the states it's reversed. I'm a little confused into why? Would really like to know why though. But if you don't know why it's ok by me.
    Well still keep up the great work Robbie & have fun,
    Chris

    • @RobbieCumming
      @RobbieCumming  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks for squeezing me into that tight schedule Chris!! Yeah lot of birthdays in March for me too but have not been very good at keeping up as of late. Aqueducts - yep these allow the canals to cross valleys without having to go down via locks. The original canal builders would have weighed up the options and decided based on cost I imagine. Anyone else want to weigh in on this one?

    Add packing to the shaft packing gland.. easy just need the packing material. A hour or two, and a good pump to pump out incoming water while you disassemble and reassemble.. scary but it is easily done.

  • @peterrussell9473
    @peterrussell9473 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Usual causes of such leakage includes debris on the prop causeing vibration and wear on the rubber bit that go into the tube the grease feeds into (stern gland) - quite simple to fix, can be done in the water if done carefully. See "Replacing a stern gland - in the water" in TH-cam for example.

    Omg 😂 literally just messaged you about this! Best part of the canal....Bridge 56 = Heaven! Sad to have missed you guys! But let me know next time, the milkybars are on me. Safe travels! 🚣🏻

      @miketipping1583 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      OK, I've been trying to work out what is so good about Bridge 56 but no luck... I drive past it every day am I missing something?

    • @JMS98989
      @JMS98989 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Mike Tipping bridge 56 isn't near a road....

    • @miketipping1583
      @miketipping1583 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      James Homans it's not far from the main road. When I say past I mean from Henley to Stratford. I don't actually see the bridge so it may be really nice, but why is it so much nicer than bridge 55 & 57

    • @JMS98989
      @JMS98989 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Mike Tipping it's if you go over the aqueduct towards Wooten, keep going then there's bridge 56 😇...one of my favourite places 😊

    • @miketipping1583
      @miketipping1583 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      James Homans yes but why... There is nothing there other than a big house and a manage... No pub and the countryside isn't great.

    • @Tinhare
      @Tinhare 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Some do. Most not.

    • @peterrussell9473
      @peterrussell9473 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      You don't need a bow thruster on these if you know how to steer them. Quite a few have them and over-use them and they fail due to debris in the canals. Often people learn to steer without them and never fix them.
