Sheed is so entertaining when telling old stories. I absolutely love his podcast with Bonzi and Tyler and especially because I am a life long blazer fan so I remember when all that shit was happening. The follow up to that story of Ruben Patterson slamming Z-Bo was that Z-Bo broke his orbital with a punch afterwards. Thanks for the content Sean!
During the 1980s and 1990s the NBA was used to seeing scuffles breakout on a nightly basis with teams like the rugged New York Knicks, the "Bad Boy" Detroit Pistons, the Chicago Bulls, the Indiana Pacers, the Miami Heat, and the Boston Celtics all regularly contributing to the mayhem. All out brawls became commonplace in the NBA during the final quarter of the 20th century and they weren't always broken up in a timely fashion. Nowadays, even getting up from your bench during a scuffle results in an automatic fine. Being a part of a shoving match will incur financial penalties and probably a suspension.
If you want to watch people fight then check ouy mma, boxing, etc. When i turn on a game i want to see them play, not acting like children that aren't getting their way. Also, the refereeing is appalling these days. Players can't even look at someone the wrong way without getting a tech.
I sincerely doubt that the Alonzo Mourning vs Larry Johnson fight qualified as a true scuffle. As big and intimidating as those two were, they both completely swung at air and missed each other when trying to deliver haymakers at each other. I could though understand 'Zo's reaction leading up to that scuffle. LJ definitely got the better of 'Zo by hitting his surgically constructed face and then shoving him again. I must say, the intense jousting in the paint during the 1980's & '90's was intense.
@toddsands6000 isn't that the actual style of nba fighting? You don't see skilled punches. You see eyes closed heymakers at best. Or a Reggie Miller face scratch. But mostly it's a guy yelling hold me back I'm gonna kill him. While I agree Alonzo throws a horrible punch with lj being slightly better they made up for their lack of contact with how often they tried. Especially since this video really didn't show legitimate brawls. Didn't see Kurt rambis or Rudy T get his head knocked off by Kermit. He didnt even have Dr J and bird.
Bad boy pistons practice fights should be here , I remember John salley telling a story how bill and mahorn got into a fist fight then proceeded to punch out salley for trynna break up the fight 😭 then they all acting like nothing happened in which salley said that set the tone for the type of team he’d go on to win his first two rings with
@@mongoslade277 lol Kermit was on a rampage that year he had multiple fights the week leading up to his attempted decapitation of Rudy T. I only saw it through replays years later but it left an image thats for sure.
Well, not quite a fight, but...Zelmo Beatty was giving Wilt a bunch of abuse. Pulling on his shorts, holding him, etc. Wilt threw a hip at Zelmo and sent him airborne across the floor. The ref ran over to the heap on the floor and said, "Don't move. Wilt thinks you're dead, and if you don't respond, he won't come over to look."
Imagine holding back his whole career and the few times he let loose people got hurt. Forgot who's foot was hurt when he dunked the ball so hard after his teeth got knocked out. Lol
@@lamefart Johnny Kerr got his foot or toe broken. Countless stories of Wilt finally getting annoyed or just feed up and showing what he was capable of to some degree.
i know old topic... BUT... in no order... Rick Mahorn, Vernon Maxwell, Xavier McDaniel, Anthony Mason, Charles Oakley, Davis Brothers, Charles Barkley, Ben Wallace, David West, Kenyon Martin, Latrell Sprewell, Jerry Stackhouse, Ron Artest, Larry Johnson, Hakeem Olujawon so we got 16 Guys, make AI a tournament of it! XD I would say final is: Grandmama vs Big Ben :)
BTM - We didn't have all this "access" that you think we did during the Golden Era. It honestly sounds like you guys had way more access in Europe than us in the States. We only had the Saturday NBA Inside Stuff show with Ahmad Rashad and Summer Sanders. You said you guys had only 2-3 shows and 2-3 magazines? Again, that's more than we had. It makes sense though because the NBA was (and still is) on a global marketing campaign to grow the sport. Long story short - I really miss the Golden Age of the NBA. I loathe what this sport has become. Just weak-ass entitled players that are all buddies and want to shoot 3-pointers even if they're 8'15" and shit.

3 guys is half the Lakers and only 1 of them was a starter. Notice he didn't once swing or go towards Wilt. Looks more like Willis knew who he could hit.
@@mongoslade277 my mistake the video mentioned when the knicks won the Championship. I didn't hear the part were he said 4 years earlier. Still 3 guys is hardly half the Lakers. Instead of Wilt notice he did try to his West or Baylor.
