    I've just recently started to dive into 3D sculpting (after being a diehard poly modeller, even for characters) and your Nomad tutorials have been helping me a ton! I really appreciate that you're being honest in this video about who CozyBlanket can be useful for and who probably doesn't need it, because many pro artists online seem to push for expensive software no matter what. as a hobbyist animator working on a portfolio (so someone who could use an easy retopo tool, but who doesn't have a professional budget) this was a nice overview, thank you!

    Thanks Erika…awesome, lots to think about. 🤔 I truly believe the “fun factor” is important…especially if it gets you started. Then you’re better equipped to move to a more advanced software. OR, figure out how to do what you want with what you’ve got. As with Nomad, I always find a way to make it work and AVOID another software learning curve. But I think I’m gonna try Cozy! I’m a pencil kinda guy. YOU ROCK ✊✊✊🎩

      Always so kind John. I agree with the fun factor. Years ago I didn't like sculpting because I suffered using Zbrush. A simple software is a great step before going into the rabbit hole that pc software tends to be.

      This is why I first git started with Nomad before I started learning how to use Blender. Nomad is very intuitive and user friendly and I can apply my skills in a more advanced software from there.

    For anyone interested - Quad Remesher for Blender is **outstanding**. Considering how much effort 3D art takes overall, I'm surprised people are actually willing to spend their time and energy doing this manually. Retopology (to my naive brain I suppose) seems like the one thing (maybe followed by UV mapping) that should be as automatic as possible, allowing the artist to continue with creating art.

    • @SmallRobotStudio
      @SmallRobotStudio  2 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      Hey, Michael here, the animator of the channel. It would indeed be nice if it could be completely automated but as it stands it's really important to achieve to correct polyflow for mesh deformation when rigging for animation. Automatic retopo such as what blender has or Zbrush's Zremesh can sometimes get close but will often result in too high a poly count with edgeloops not always where you need them.

    • @button9
      @button9 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah, quad remesher is great for pretty much everything other than bodies. It comes close to almost good topology, but not good for proper animation, unless the goal is to just have the best cleanup from high density. I use it for clothing, and most hard surface stuff.

      @@SmallRobotStudio ….hi Erika ✌️…yes, UV with seams would be a very complete iPad studio. I’m hoping Nomad goes that way. Do you think that’s likely?

    • @SmallRobotStudio
      @SmallRobotStudio  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@johndeggendorf7826 It's hard to tell. Steph (the Nomad developer) has said in the forums that fancier UV unwrapping is not a priority on his list. He added the automatic uv because of Procreate. I think it would be more likely to have UV unwrapping added to CozyBlanket but so far there have not been any announcements about it.

    I’m a beginning 3D artist who learnt sculpting in Nomad and who just started learning how to use Blender. My goal is to become a professional and to create both concept sculpts and riggable models for animations or games. Blender seems pretty overwhelming for a started like me and I still haven’t fully figured it out. Is it better for me to use CozyBlanket or to directly learn retopology in Bender?

    • @SmallRobotStudio
      @SmallRobotStudio  ปีที่แล้ว +4

      CozyBlanket a 100%
      It's way simpler to use and learn. The newest version now let's you create UVs and bakes. I'd stick to the cheapest version and once you are familiar with retopo reassess if it is worth paying the full features or trying PC options.

    Yeah I plan to get it they're slowly making it possible to animate 3d models on mobile like iPads. You can sculpt with nomad, now theres retopology, only really one more thing left which is rigging. I've seen a video where someone imported a 3d model with rigs into clip studio!!

    • @SmallRobotStudio

      @@SmallRobotStudio oh hey I found a video recently where its possible to rig and animate your 3d model. Its prisma 3d you can sculpt your model in nomad sculpt then use cozy blanket to retopologize the model. Then use prisma 3d to rig n animate it.
      Edit: just found out you can import animations from mixamo into prisma 3d.

    I am so conflicted at the moment...
    Currently, I am a massive 3D beginner and can merely draw donuts on Blender.
    The question is, should I continue to learn Blender or learn Nomad Sculpt and CosyBlanket first to get down the fundamentals first?
    I have both options available to me, but was wondering what could be the best way of going about this...
    (Blender is still confusing for me)

      It's a very interesting market they are aiming for; non of my colleagues who do these processes as part of their jobs use iPads or have even heard of these apps. For most of them an iPad is not an investment that makes sense.
