What i like about your videos is when you focus on teaching basics, real basics and real techniques !! most of people out there will consider that as beginners things, thank you man for making my techniques better .... Greatings from Algeria
the description is clear and concise. it is just great to able to understand fully what the instructor is trying to telling you without confusion. great, great job here!
Definitely the most knowledgeable boxing coach you can find on youtube you have helped me through many different speed bumps in my career thank you for all your doing
A seemingly endless stream of educated, motivating content structurally presented and clearly illustrated. What more can you wish for? Keep it up coach!
I threw a hook at that like button 39seconds in as you started your video with stating ‘i want constructive criticism’. imma keep watching, theres something about the energy you are spreading n i like it💙
This is def some good tips..always been curious how to get power with my hits without leaving myself completely open. You did a spectacular job a describing & demonstrating the techniques. Thanks for the vid! Keep'em coming!
When I watch your videos, I glance to your subscribers number and the first thing pop to my head is "This dude deserve one million subscribers". Best greeting from Saudi Arabia.
JT Van V videos are awesome great content as always. I left a request earlier on if you could do a video on routine and benefits using he wrecking ball bag instead of the traditional heavy bag... in my experience using it makes me more creative on offense and even defense... think it will be great for your channel
As a new fighter I just wanted to say thank you for your channel. I have gained a great deal of knowledge that I can take to my gym with me to use and learn from.
Coming from a mechanical engineer that just started boxing about four months ago, your descriptions of the mechanics from my perspective are spot-on. I specialized in Bio-mechinaics. I would change nothing about your presentation. I'd love to offer you some constructive criticism but all of your videos are pretty insanely great. I'm learning a ton and using it. I mean.... you made a 35-minute video about using a crossrope which is my favorite jump rope. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
I’m learning more watching your videos than I am in the gym. Really do appreciate all your help and effort you put into these videos. keep them coming! Haha
This video beautfiully raises very important point. Just would like to add sometimes you make a combo with no hard punch, but you make believe the opponent it was a near miss, with a double /triple hard to follow. Like left jab, let hook with a side step and imitate a hard right cross but what you do is slide left a bit further and dive so that the loading energy is not waisted but you instead of punching hard cross arrive loaded at the kidney and unleash hard and followwith left hook to the body/kindney and then go for the head and finish with hard left hook and hard right hook, hard and sharp. Also at times, you control you punch as a balance of speed and power plus have to remember that timing your opponent properly let you be fast and load up not to its full but instead use the energy of the inward movement of your opponent to top it up, but the next punch is full style hard. Like he moves in, you stop with right cross and left hook, dive a bit with a side step to the right and finish it with a really hard right hook, where you body movement naturally loads it up. No recipes that fit and work for all, but the key point is using you opponent movement and time him and to be less predictable and save energy. Learning to imitate loading up and unleashing the opposite punch helps, and the mechanics of movements, if cought properly, only helps to make the next punch harder and a less visible.
Force = mass * acceleration. Speed without mass has no power. Mass without speed has no power. It is the combination of the 2 that allows for power. What does speed have to do with acceleration? A mass in motion, when stopped, produces deceleration of the mass causing force (force = mass * deceleration).
In physics power is defined as Work over change in time. Meaning the rate of change of work. Work= Force x distance. If you push a car 2 meters with 700 newtons of force you just did 1400J of work. So if power= (F x D)/time And distance over time = velocity Power also equals Force times velocity.
I like to throw a jab as a slightly delayed "end" to a combo after a committed left (I'm southpaw), I find it disrupts the opponent's escape plan, disorients them after taking damage, and acts as a hit-confirm to continue the pursuit (almost like a reset). The power of the jab depends on what I want to do with it in that moment; if I want to continue pursuing it'll likely be a light jab to gauge distance/block vision/occupy them while executing intricate footwork, or if I want to tack on some more punishment I'll use the momentum from the left to charge up a power jab. What do you guys think?
I will always keep that in mind going forward I really like throwing as hard as I can , every time I’m on the heavy bag . From now on I’ll vary the speed and power on my punches. You are a good coach I understand you the first time you explain something.
Hey JT. Can you make a video focused on chin ? I'm mostly interested in exercises to strengthen the muscles and ability to take punches. Thanks in advance. I appreciate your job, I have a huge hope to witness your future seminars. Peace!
As always, that's good stuff right there coach JT. Will use these tips for sparring tonight. Keep making these awesome vids man. Your fan from Philippines.
I recently subscribed to your channel and thank you for great detailed information. You should be called “boxing professor” because u explain in detail why the technique is done a certain way. Thanks again
FightTips got me into boxing, and Shane always gives good little nuggets of information to improve my game. But I have to say JT explains boxing so thoroughly he should have a PhD on the subject.
JT - your videos have been so helpful! But I'm still very much of a beginner. One idea - what about a training video -- where you teach 3 shorter combos on a heavy bag using this principal of hand speed at start, finishing with power. You could show long demos of each combo where you repeat the combo multiple times, starting slower and then increasing to fight pace. Then connect the 3 combos into a longer multi-combo attack. Love your videos!
@JT VAN V love the vids... was wondering if you could do a video for some good bag workouts using the wrecking ball bag... alot of gyms dont have it and i believe it opens a whole other game on offense and defense... think it will be a great addition to your channel
Now that you mention it, over rotating your hips really affects your flow, that's something I'm working on i have to get used to rotating my hips just enough.
First of all, thank you for taking the time to make these videos. You were saying how you can exploit your opponents weakness or a flaw in their boxing. But for a beginner , how do you recognize a flaw in your opponent? What are some things to look for and how do you counter them? There is technique to everything. Also, I was wondering if you can go into more detail about footwork and how to move in and out, and how you can get more speed or power on your footwork technique. Thanks
I would like to hear similar thoughts. When my opponents exit an exchange of punches backwards I can always tag them from a great distance by switching to southpaw stepping forward with a very solid jab, due to the wieght behind it, rotation and it makes up a massive distance advantage. Some people just say no. Shouldnt be done. But it works so often.
Yes! For example, after throwing the one-two, and the opponent slips to my right, I like to chase with my right leg forward, throwing the right hook to catch him if he drops his hand.
Filip - Great example mate. Its always been my understanding that there is so much to master from one stance and thats why coaches dont want us to get overwhelmed by being concerned with switching stances and overloading ourselves mentally. But certainly there must be a time and place. Cause it works. Im not keen on fight equally from either stance because I would be overloaded mentally. But in situation....
Nathan Stawiarski I throw in one southpaw round in every workout I do, so over time it becomes a weapon. It also helps that my left hand is stronger naturally.
Filip Petrovic I see alot of guys thay train seriously are actually more powerful with there 'alternate' fist. I think its due to putting in more effort in technique training what was the lesser arm/fist. So do you incorporate all of what you can do orthodox into southpaw training?....Or do you keep to basics and the situations that it comes in handy to switch over when opportunities arise? Thanks.
I ve always liked your video on this roof. I remember learning the gazelle punch watching you on this roof and this is one of my favorite move right now👊
So if I am throwing combos , let's just say Left jab, right cross , left hook to the body , Does that mean , the first two punches, the jab and the cross are just arm punches without hip rotation ?
Do you have a video on how to let your hands go without worrying about getting hit bad? If not, what advice could you give me? I worry about that all the time.
Here is his video on footwork and how to keep pressure while letting your hands go. I believe you would need good footwork to go with your combos to avoid counter hits from landing while you're moving through with your attack. th-cam.com/video/m6P9Rwe3R_M/w-d-xo.html
Geez, I don't mean to say it rude but quite other way around, considering your age, - whatever it actually is but probably over 35 (?), - you move so smooth and sharp that many youngsters in all sports are much more square than you, sir. Salute!
The crazy thing about my punches is that as i strike with my whole body, toe to wrist and snap it through i get a lot more speed on my punch through the momentum if i punch with my shoulders it isnt nearly that fast... but i also really sit down as im doing it building momentum with a quick step works for me but its a weird technique i cant explain...
What if you got crazy speed and intent from specialized training like low rep plyos with low weight med balls.. work on throws and agility/conditioning.. work on strength speed by doing those and explosive isometrics
"Your comments drive the content". Beautiful

I'm a big guy and having difficulty with speed rather than power in boxing. First time I've seen a video of yours
Awesome explanation of why you should save the power-shot for last.
wow this is a very insightful video on throwing combinations. Thank you very much.

Watch his counter punching videos it might help you learn openings from counter punching and learn when to look for punches.
hmongtse thanks man, if he doesn't have a vid on letting your hands go without being reckless, I hope he makes one.
maybe watch his video on footwork. He shows you to throw punches but not recklessly and even shows escape routes to follow through with your punches.
