    This information is free?! Its value is priceless and with your shared knowledge, you're allowing me to progress faster than the students around me. And JUST when I thought I was learning rapidly with your free videos, I was fucking blown away by how awesome and reasonably priced your premium stuff is. I feel I'm fortunate to know your work and privileged to be a part of a world with the internet and teachers who were quick enough to capitalize on the transition to the digital age.
    NOW PUT SOME RESPECT ON JT VAN V's NAME

    It's funny how bad habits creep back in. I spent the first part of your video thinking I was past those mistakes, until I double checked in the mirror and noticed I had started pulling my rear hand back every single time haha Thanks for another great video as usual!

      Sorry, English is not my native and while I understand all the words in the first part I still don't quite understand what exactly did JT mean, can you please explain the aspect about right hand? Is it about not pulling your right hand back while punching with left or what? I understand all the video except this very first part, I would really appreciate if any of you guys helped me to understand.

    • @mehdiriza4483
      @mehdiriza4483 7 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Yes that's right. Very simply he's saying not to drop the right hand while throwing the jab in a 1-2 combo. This is a bad habit that telegraphs your intention to your opponent and also leaves you open to a counter left. Throw the right hand straight from the chin for best effect! Good luck in your training

    Crazy how practical this stuff is. I've been sparring and noticed that my crosses always look like overhand crosses and have been trying to fix it but it's always unconsciously resurfaced in sparring. This video really put into words and concrete actions how and why my cross looks like an overhand. Specifically, weight distribution and elbow should be close to body. Great stuff as always man

    In regards to your head turning while throwing a punch rather than staying straight and focused on the target, i found donald cerrones advice often fixed that quite well. make sure you're fully extendin your punches, at full extension your shoulder will generally touch your jaw line. remind yourself to touch your jaw with your shoulders? head will stay on target. dope vid as always jt! and i'm diggin the pirate head band you're stylin on punks hahaha. inspires me to do some good old fashion pillaging, maybe illegally burn a cd. gotta get me one my dude.

    This is high level technical instruction. I was always taught not to flare your elbows when extending either the lead jab or the rear hand and this video explains what causes the flaring outward in the first place. Additionally, JT makes you cognizant of how direct punching speeds up potentially your punching combinations by being more movement efficient. In the case of the rear overhand though, is it ok to execute the punch with more of a baseball type throwing motion a la Joe Lewis?

    To prevent your head moving as you throw the punch, keep your chin tucked in - Marco Antonio Barrera has probably the best stance, his chin is always tucked in : very classic, simple oldschool stance, but he can do so much with it ... Also don't over-think stuff, stay loose, have fun, with time and practise, it'll fall into place ...

    Marco Ruas has a video where he talks about this. He said in Portuguese accent "IS BETTER TO LAND A PUNSH THAN TO NO LAND IT, SO YOU NO WANNA LET HIM KNOW WHEN IS COMING." and he was basically throwing punches directly from where his hands were set. It is a good video I think it's already on utube.

    PS, a question I have asked but not yet received an answer from is, how is it best to fight when on the rope. How does one prevent one's self from ending up square. How should one roll outta or off the gate, when leaning on them. Should one even look to remain calm and counter while leaning on the rope. I have always found it a daunting situation to end up in. A skill that is not easy to learn. Respect.

    Great tips as always man, looking really tight right now too. I also see a common right hand mistake where a subconscious back step takes place with the right leg. So you throw the jab then take a tiny step back with the right foot while throwing the cross. Thats very common to see in the beginners class.

    hey JT, can you make a video on some combinations that incorporate changing stances like tj dillashaws style. I know he's mma but his footwork is legendary and Ive been practicing my off hand stance on the bag, but not confident enough to apply it in sparring. Also, what's your prediction for the Canelo vs GGG fight?

    • @truckxmcnugget3145

      I'm naturally a SOUTHPAW. However, for the last year and some change, I have been training from my right hand as the lead. This video is on point!

    • @cianbreen7062
      @cianbreen7062 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think TJ Dillashaws footwork is very useful for MMA as he and his opponents have the option of take downs. In straight boxing however I suspect that a lot of his footwork would be wasted movement/energy as a lot of the time he is not within striking range. You'll notice that boxers are in the pocket more often than MMA fighters who give each other a lot more distance.

    My understanding was that as long as your chin wasn't going over your knee or side of it you were ok in shifting your weight to throw the right hand. I mean some shifting needs to happen from rear leg to front and not from rear to the center of your stance to develop the power in the right hand no? Thanks.
