    I was born and raised in Abj and now stay in the USA. I have never understood how people manage in Lagos. Lagos is truly overrated because most people largely don’t get the value of the money they spend there.

      The only between NY and Lagos is the amenities and probably security wise, buh cost of living, Lagos-other Nig state and NY-other US states, they not too far, (Note: comparing Lagos to NY buh the value of both to respective country) so Lagos is overrated in some aspects just as NY cuz the influx of people is raising the cost, Dd is exceeding Ss.

    In my opinion, I see Lagos as a place to have vacations. Things have changed these days and you can literally create your own opportunities. For the stress, hustle, standard of living, crowd and congestion, Lagos is definitely overated.....Gosh!

      Imagine the attractions in Lagos happening in other cities. What we would be saying would be quite different. Lagos has poisoned some people so much that they don't see themselves living in any other place without realizing how toxic and unhealthy it is. Imagine the smallest state in Nigeria with the highest population. Likkkkee. Ask those who leave Lagos a bit to other locations, the talk literally changes.

    I’m going say something that might not be very popular but I’ll do so anyway.
    Someone said the problem is that everything is in Lagos. There is a solution that lies with the government. Dredge the river niger dredge the Calabar ocean routes and develop their sea ports then fully allow international commercial cargo at the so called Enugu international airport without political, tribal and religious bias and voila! A huge amount of the business that drives the Lagos traffic will disappear to the SE and SS. Lagos is overwhelmed and the cure is to diversify human and cargo traffic to other parts of the country then watch all those businesses and workers that support the economy diversify as well. It’s simple economics.
    I also want to say great videos and discussion points you guys are making. I’m a new member of the channel but have been a long Time follower of Nedu and husband material’s content. I’m also quite impressed by the works of the ladies on this show. Great work guys.
    My father was a Journalist back in the day so I watched and I know good content and this is surely one of them
    P.S Nedu. Please allow me to address this. Lagos did not make you, you made you because of your God given gift and your hard work. You work hard for your bread utilizing what God has given you. Lagos may have facilitated this effort but it didn’t make you bro.
    Cheers guys.
    Chris Oseloka Nwanze.

Like Naomi said, if all the oil companies relocates back to PH, Warri, Calabar(Niger Delta) and our seaports all opens , no body will leave peterkwa for Lagos. Back then people come from Lagos to rock Dreams nite club in PH..... All these are politically motivated, and the reason people are suffering.

    Lagos is just like new York, in the city of New York there is uptown and trenches, and things are mad expensive in both cities but people still move there because of the life they pictured they want to live, so they go to these cities and manage hoping for a better life

    • @cmichael2967
      @cmichael2967 ปีที่แล้ว

      You are not making any sense. You pay all that money in New York at least there is water and light. And you earn a considerable salary to live there. In Lagos, you don't get what you pay for. Few good roads, poor sanitation, no light, no clean water. That's what the over-rating is all about. That is, you are not getting value for your money. For what it is worth, if you compare Lagos with other major cities around the world, you will agree that it is a shithole.

    Yes I agree that lagos is overrated because I grew up there. But I can also tell you for a fact that the cost of renting a house in Abuja is now above the roof and onlike Lagos where if you can not afford the island you move to the mainland, this is not the case with Abuja. If you cannot afford to pay the absord prices, you will have to rent close to the outskirt which in my opinion is more shitty than Lagos mainland. Also transport sytem in Abuja is not as versatile as Lagos if you are not mobile (You will really suffer lol). A man once made a joke that Abuja has a way of selecting the people it wants to leave in it and pushes the rest to Nassarawa or Niger state lol. Also Abuja is nowexperiencing some level of serious traffic but of course it can not be compared to Lagos.

    Lagos might not be overrated. The cost of a place depends on the financial and industrial productivity of the place. Lagos seems to be a place that MAKE people, also, tech companies like: google ARE THERE...go to any country, the most expensive cities, are cities that produce, make and improve people financially and job wise. May not necessarily be a CLEAN life...if you come to the US, downtown's in most cities are usually the most expensive places but also, they are one of the least secured and least clean place. but the PRIDE that comes when you say: i live in downtown, IT SAYS A LOT ON THE FINANCIAL CAPABILITY.

    • @wordsbymaribeja1470
      @wordsbymaribeja1470 ปีที่แล้ว

      No, the population is too big, you can't have that many people in such a tiny landmass, and if you add roads to match the density of people, Lagos is no longer Lagos, it becomes LANDLOCKED!! People keep complaining that if their state had a seaport it would be as successful as Lagos but people don't realise that a seaport is suitable for Lagos because of it's favourable geographic position, other states need to find what is suitable for their states geography and resource composition.

    Lagos is very very highly overrated. If the government can open up other regions economically (e.g. opening cargo ports in other places) and not push everything to Lagos, most people will leave Lagos to other states/regions.

    • @losaslabel9329
      @losaslabel9329 ปีที่แล้ว

      So what exactly are the governors or government of these states supposed to be doing?

    • @Moncoferne
      @Moncoferne ปีที่แล้ว

      @@losaslabel9329 it's not about the governors. Lagos state governor is not the one bringing businesses to Lagos. It's the FG that is empowering Lagos to what it is. If FG can just make ports operational in other states like Cross River, Rivers, Ondo, Delta it will open up those states and by extension open up the regions they belong.

    • @losaslabel9329
      @losaslabel9329 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Moncoferne of these states you mentioned, only Ondo doesn't have a functioning port. Secondly, it's very convenient to put the entire advantages of Lagos to the FG. Was it FG that opened up Lekki or previous government of Lagos? Was it FG that created the BRT system? Was it FG that created agencies like LASTMA, LAWMA, LASPARK etc? Was it FG that built a new rail system?
      Truth is, Lagos has a lot of advantages for being a formal federal capital but sustaining those advantages has been Lagos governments all the way. By the way, it's not only ports that's important to a state. Majority of the opportunity in Lagos are mostly service oriented. The jobs are private sector jobs.
      Has Lagos lived up to its potential? I'd say no. But calling a state that houses at least one member of ALL Nigerian families overrated is a big stretch. Carry ports and give all the 36 states and they will still fail. That's because people like you excuse governors of other states who get paid (quite handsomely) and control enormous resources but always get away with incompetence.

    • @Moncoferne
      @Moncoferne ปีที่แล้ว

      @@losaslabel9329 you need to understand that having a port in a state opens up the state to development as economics activities normally spring up. Companies use this as a determinant of their location (access to goods without spending extra on transportion). Just know that it's private sector that grows a state not the government. With the kind of businesses in Lagos, the state supposed to be far developed than what it is. So the state government is not doing better than other states governments, they are simply lucky they have more private businesses that's growing the state's economy.
      Another way this port things affects businesses was last year when there was fuel scarcity in the North due to increment in diesel price. The fuel arrives Nigeria only through Lagos port, then transported to different locations in Nigeria. Fuel tankers refused to go to the North because of the high diesel price, so when the scarcity was over in the south, the North was still experiencing fuel scarcity.
      When you have businesses in a state, the state grows. You talk about state agencies, other states also have those, even FCT has its own agencies (FCDA, AEPB, FCTA, etc). The new port in lekki wasn't built by Lagos state, dangote refinery wasn't built by Lagos state.... It's even important to note that the refinery was originally planned for Ondo state (olokola free trade zone) before political pressure made dangote moved it to Lagos state. Imagine such a refinery in Ondo state, that would automatically open up the state to more development. That would have made the investors that built lekki port to build it in Ondo state (another economics advantage).
      So all these economic opportunities are taken to Lagos and that's why the state continue to be over-crowded and thus things are unnecessarily expensive.
      The state is dirty, smelly and more expensive than Abuja (though people thought Abuja is more expensive).
      If FG can make the ports work in other states and marine traffic diverted to those ports, most businesses will move to those states and that will reduce the economic power of Lagos state and thus reduce the living expenses.

    3mins into the podcast.. I'm surprised the lady says Lagos is overrated. I once connected with her on Instagram, she more or less liked the connection but the moment I told her I was in a town in Nigeria different from Lagos, she starts to see me as inferior. I know it would have been different if I told her I lived outside Nigeria, which is actually true.
    And I must add, this dude Nedu now sounds like a real human being. That his forced British accents was irritating and he sounded g*y (no offense to g*y people) with it.
