If you look at the special delivery sticker it says number 23 above the 2d bar code. This should have been checked at the post office when you sent it and it will be on your receipt also.
Being honest it did look like 23 to me too. When sending, never write it as a B always a b. Also, confirm it with the post office when you hand it over and check the reciept. When I send expensive things out, I also add post office consequential loss insurance

Sorry, I would initially think 23. But when they were told the correct address a note should have been put on the parcel.

It has been posted as 23 at the post office, this can be seen in the right hand corner next to the 2D barcode, second line under the stamp price and weight of parcel. Royal Mail can only try at that specified address with special deliveries. Even informed it is for 2B, the postman/woman would not be able to attempt at 2B, as it was processed as being 23. This is only the case for special delivery items. If it was a tracked item or Royal Mail 24/48, the mistake could be rectified and tried at the correct address or even left at neighbours - this cannot happen with special delivers.
Hi Nic, I am a Postie and I deal with Special Deliveries.
You might want to blame the POST OFFICE, because they have put 23 on the square white label at the top right of the parcel.
You might also want to edit the video because, the buyers FULL POSTCODE and all be it wrong house number is fully visible on the white sticker with the QR code.
You covering the label is pointless with the QR post office label still visible, anyone can look up this buyers street address, and you have stated their correct house number in this video!
The pre advice of this parcel would also be 23 on RM s internal system.
I would personally advise printing the label especially on expensive items like this.
Also due to the high value of SD items or sensitive contents for insurance purposes special delivery can ONLY be delivered to the address on the item, and can't goto a neighbour or a different address when a redelivery is selected.
Hence the multiple attempts at 23.
On a side note the sorting office should NOT have promised a redelivery to 2B as this is to stop anyone walking into a sorting office and intercepting a special delivery.
At this point it should have been returned to yourself to be resent to the correct address, with the CORRECT number on the QR code label, which is wrong.
The post office staff member has also read it as 23, and your RECEIPT would also show 23 that you should have checked.
I usually support you when you rant on companies getting it wrong like Ebay etc, but this is NOT Royal Mails fault, and you genuinely should do the right thing and say you got it wrong Nic.

Exactly. SD are separate to normal mail and can ONLY be attempted to the address on the item. No neighbours, no retry another address, no leave safe. Its the sender's responsibility to make sure the address is correctly printed or written or it will fail
Although if they put the wrong address in to start with and gave the wrong advice, then they must hold some blame..
Well explained John, thanks, have learned from you and yes, it is all so obvious and clear that the dubious handwriting meant it was destined to fail when it was read at the post office counter and not spotted by nick on his receipt. No doubt the SD guys would look at the QR label and do what that says ! All easy mistakes but thankfully i use a printer to keep it simple.

Yes, but they shouldn't have struggled after getting in contact with the sorting office 3 times, explaining everything and being told all was understood. After that, it's nothing short of pure incompetence on behalf of RM

@@Charlie_Crown True but as my relative (RM staff) says, Royal mail have cut staff so many times in the past 10-15 years and now works a kind of skeleton crew. He remembers 15 years ago where he works that at night at 9pm there would be around 100 people compare with now which he says at the same time there are no more than 15 people. Also they have a policy of "race to the bottom" in terms of wages and are still actively getting rid of staff with full time contracts in favor of part time and casual workers. Wages have gone down in real terms, 15 years ago it was a pretty good wage but now it is pretty much below the "average wage" which looking it up is £29,600 apparently (yeah right where are all these average wage people). So low wages and incompetent managers and part time staff who don't give a fcuk might be the answer.

Looks more like 213 or 23. Easy mistake to make as the B was not clearly joined up to look like B. No excuses for their multiple failed delivery attempts after you contacted them though. Guess it is because no one corrected the address on the box. For once I have to say the original fault is yours.

Yeah. At first glance, it looked like 213 to me too. The natural first reaction after that is to ignore the weird part (the "1") and I can see them accidentally getting 23 pretty easily.

Not the fault of Royal Mail as can be clearly seen with the label stating postcode and no 23. The confusion started at the post office counter where the clerk entered misread no. as 23. if I was sending an item of a value of £300 i would have checked correct details on receipt when entering tracking number into Ebay then this could have been avoided.

Hey there. As a postie of 19 years I can tell you unfortunately with a special delivery we only deliver as addressed and although you have my sympathies it’s the worst B I’ve ever seen. It’s almost like a 2, 3 if that makes sense. Lesson learned I guess

The 739 you have on the parcel with the date means a P739 card was left (red card) with the date left. As you can see it’s more than one posties handwriting so they all read it the same way

I know plenty of Royal Mail posties and they’re useless if your delivery centre has been contacted by the recipient and also the sender then it should of been rectified. No wonder Royal Mail is going down hill fast ! Come 12;30 most are in Wetherspoons
it's your fault, i sell and would never write freehand I always print the address and as large as the parcel will allow. Writing freehand is always open to interpretation and you will get problems.
If I was buying a £300 item I would expect it to be professionaly packaged and labeled properly, especially from a business seller not a roughly hand written label so unprofessional Nic

It was HIS mistake, and considering it was worth 300 pounds and he hand wrote it, it should have occurred to him to double check the address and made sure it wasn’t ambiguous. Of course this is all assuming he hasn’t made all this up for clickbait views and to throw dirt at Royal Mail unjustly.
I checked for two weeks (although sold listings show up pretty much immediately) and couldn't find his listing picture or any same model camera sell for the price he showed it. Fairly sure it was just fishing for views. Shame though, I like most of his vids

If I understand correctly, it actually doesnt matter whats written on the parcel, delivery is made based on the details associated with the tracking number which has been logged as 23 per the printed label.

Never hand write a label. I appreciate special delivery service isn’t in your usual mail flow, but you can buy special delivery using eBay labels. 👍🏼. At least the parcel wasn’t terminally lost and it came back to you 👍🏼

You'd think someone who has been sending out parcels for years would know that whenever an address contains a letter such as that it is always a lower case "b". As an ex postman I'd say that the way Nic has written that any postie would quite rightly assume that says 23, you have to consider how many poorly written addresses they have to deal with, that tiny unjoined line making it a "B" is something they will be conditioned to ignore when they are expecting any letters to be written as "b". Whenever you call a sorting office you will be put through to someone who has no contact whatsoever to the actual posties who deal with the parcel, there will be hundreds of people working there and its simply naieve to assume a message will be passed on. The parcel will inevitably end up back with whoever is delivering that day who will always quite rightly assume it should be delivered to 23.
This is your fault.

When I was a postie , you’d soon become familiar with the family names at each house number , however that’s when posties had regular ‘walks’ , rather than nowadays where you often get a different postie unfamiliar with house numbers ( or even worse street names ) ………

I had a package take 6 months instead of 6 weeks to be delivered to me. Destination country -- IRELAND - address was handwritten. It was misread and package travelled to ISRAEL. Fortunately it was eventually re-directed to Ireland. My advice - either handwrite to the standard of machine print or machine print addresses especially when delivery is urgent.
The post office typed it In wrong as well the white label says house number 23 so the qr code thinks it's house number 23

I also read 23 tbh! I always always type out the address, I never write out the address since depending on your handwriting numbers can be miss-interpreted.
use ebay own shipping postage order system, it is much easier and no hassle!
When typing out the address you won't get that issue, also I would rather pay for postage online and print off the barcode label, then there is no confusion.
First glance 23. But after speaking with the customer they should have written 2B on the parcel. It will have been the same postman every time who was unaware of the mistake, and just thought 23 were trying to get it delivered every time. Lack of communication between the guys at the delivery office and the actual postman. In future make the B smaller than the number.
Nick, been a sub for a good few years. We are all human. It looks like an extended 3 not a B to me. If you are sending why not print address out on printer in large chrs. Probably hermes might been better, although had some bad experiences. I think the driver delivers via the app and not your '3'. 🧐
Also, on the post office label (stamp), it says 23 so the mistake was made at the post office counter. But it should have been sorted during the calls etc.

Some people are suggesting a lower case 'b', however, with a lower case 'b' that is hand written there is always the potential to read it as a '6' as most people's hand writing is far from perfect. So regardless of which postal service you use I suggest you print all labels out or at least check the receipt before leaving the post office. I've recently started using Royal Mail app and print all my shipping labels now.

You can see on the stamp in the top right they checked it into the post office @ 23, this would have also been on your receipt when you took it to the Post office you should have picked up on it when you dropped it off.
it kinda looks like a 3 to me, a lot of people in the chain at royal mail so can see where it went wrong, would not say there to blame per say.

Royal Mail dropped the hat on my ebay sell, the buyer jsut informed me that someone else signed from Royal Mail as if the buyer recieved it and when I showed her the signature, she laughed and said it wasn't even hers. Forgery is illegal and I'm livid. I mean this poor lady deserves and paid to recieve her order and now we are investigating where her item is. This is very sad. very sad. I thought USPS was bad but they have never had an employee sign for a delivery. That's illegal.

This is not Royal Mail or the postman/postwoman’s fault. The 2D stamped barcode in the right hand corner of the parcel, has the house number as 23 printed onto it. This would have been done at the post office obviously. The postman/woman has tried no.23 to deliver, as with special deliveries, only the specified address can be attempted. Even if it looks like 2B, it has been inputted and submitted and stamped, at the post office, as number 23 on the second line underneath the postage price and weight of the parcel.
Why don't you PRINT THE ADDRESS And double check with postcode checker before despatch.also always problems with royal mail when anything sent signed for if customer isn't in ,it has just taken 7 days for an item to arrive I sent ,no red card left/ no tracking updates till after delivery!
Working in the logistics industry, firstly I think I would say it was 23 and someone accidentally marked it after writing.
Because everything is automated and for GDPR, fraud and other similar reasons it’s difficult to make changes without sending back to the shipper. It’s not ideal but the main thing is your camera came back to you!

Just glancing at it, it looks like 23. Why did you not use a label printer?
The person delivering the parcel wouldn’t look at what you wrote on the parcel. They would use door number that appears when the barcoded QR sticker is scanned. This would have been input by the post office staff at the counter. If they had any doubts about the number they should have checked with you prior to printing the postal sticker.
Had a similar problem because I live at 17b the post office “returned to sender” because 176 doesn’t exist.
I now leave a bigger gap between number and letter and also use a capital B
If you look at the 2d barcoded label equally that reads 23. I think the vast majority would read it as 23. So not only the delivery postman read it as 23 , the indoor staff when returned to the delivery office entered it on the system as 23.
I always use lower case for letters & can see how it’s been mistaken for a 3 however after 3 promises to resolve it and still no delivery this is really not on
Your printed receipt from the post office what did that show as they always have to enter the house number and post code into the system .
Special delivery parcels I will always copy and paste the address from eBay to notebook/Word and youse the label printer to print it off so no issues like this occur I’m sure you’ll do the same from now on Nick!

Sorry Nic but at first glance it does look like 23 ,but then again the post office should have corrected their mistake when they said they were going to ,such are the trials and tribulations of a reseller, you must think your self lucky you have a good buyer on the other end just think of all the hassle they could have caused you.
I've got lots of gripes with Royal Mail but in this instance I can see how they initially read this as 23. However, mistakes happen and when you and your buyer tried to resolve the problem, Royal Mail categorically failed to deal with it. Their performance was calamitous. Glad your buyer was so patient. As with any situation like this, it's a learning opportunity.
This was a mistake at the post office, not Royal Mail. Royal Mail tried to deliver to the stamped address which was 23 as can be seen in the right hand corner. As with special deliveries, only the specified house number which was recorded at the post office at the time of posting, can be attempted.
@@ryanwright2716 The point is, he made the relevant people aware that a mistake had been made and they assured him it would be rectified; it wasn't. That's poor customer service.

Only the specified and processed house number can be attempted, so I believe he shouldn’t have been assured of this being rectified, unless he spoke with a Royal Mail delivery office manager, not by a postman or woman - as misdelivery of a special item is a sackable offence, or in this case not attempting delivery at the provided address (even though it is the wrong house number)
All people saying only use printed labels, I've never had a printer & have sent thousands of parcels over last 20 years or more & all hand written & never had a single parcel returned so I'll keep writing them thank you very much

I once sent a parcel, then 3 days later I received it back. The lady in the post office has put the postage label next to the return address !
The Post office entered it as 23. Hence why Royal Mail presume it’s 23. You need to be clearer when writing your labels or print off the computer.

Have you considered buying a Printer, it is 2022.
If you look at the special delivery label above the 2d bar code it shows number 23 and this will also be on your receipt, so this has been unfortunately your fault for not checking as the person at the post office has saw it as number 23 and typed that in.

It says 2B . I will give you a better one. I live in Sweden and ordered a bullbar for my car. The company , on e-bay, sent the bullbar. I was tracking it, it came to sweden and I thought afew more days and I will get it. Well Sweden is about 5 times the size of the UK and I think it went everywhere even spent a few days in Norway. By now I'd been on the phone many a time to the post office and they always said" it'll be there tomorrow. The last time I got intouch with the seller and ofcourse he was suspicious, thought maybe I was pulling a fast one. The last I heard of it it went to a woman at the top of Sweden, she had no idea what to do with it so the post office sent it back to England. This is what the post office said to me. The seller got the same information and said he would send a new bullbar to me, everyone happy. The next day it arrived on my door step so had to phone the seller to stop the new bullbar which he did and was grateful I phoned.
You can tell 2B but the issue is that the B has gaps in the letter from the pen which could make it look like a 3. My question though is what does your post office receipt show?

They deliver hundreds of parcels a day
I keep sending abroad, RM keep sending the item back with the address on the customs label!! Costs me £10 every time they make a mistake! Now I draw a massive red box around the buyers address with a big sentence in red saying who is the recipient.
Mind you, now in December 22 I’m losing so many sales I’m now using Evri postables.
If you look at the Postage Label, it clearly states SE22 0AP (House Number) 23.
Royal Mail were trying to send it to the address they had, as clarified by the Postage stamp. The fault is with whoever printed off the stamp.
Lessen to learn: Why on earth are you not benefitting from the reduced rates you get by printing off your own labels?
Print your lables! Lesson learned.

Whoever took the details when you handed it over put a 23 down.
Next time when writing a number followed by a letter of the alphabet. Try writing the number large and the letter at least half the size of the number. Also make sure the person typing the address for the 2d barcode gets it right.

If your writing is unreadable, the post person will refer to that sticker which says "23" to confirm the address, plus now we all know the customers address, which is a technical data breach.
Always double check the sticker or state the address at the post office counter before sending it, don't always assume people can read each other hand writing.

Not sure why u hand wrote the label.I always print it so that way as clear as can be ,its not the easiest number to read but I agree they should of got it right after the customer and u told them it was wrong
Also what number did the post office put on your recept . Its easy to claim your money back for none delivery
I'm surprised you don't use printed labels. If you did, this definitely wouldn't have been an issue. I did look at the number and did think 23 myself too.
As a former delivery driver I only read it as 23 or even 213 and as such would have only tried them numbers. But this should have definitely been corrected when you told them about the mistake. I think this is just one of them live and learn situations but hopefully you get better luck with ups!!
Royal Mail tracked 24 is a joke. It said my item will arrive today between 10am and 2 pm. Yesterday the item was posted to the post office and accepted. Then taken to Glasgow MC at 7 pm Monday. It hasn’t even been updated, and nothing has come. The parcel ain’t even moved for more than 24 hours. It’s ridiculous, I paid 7.99 for delivery and they can’t even do something so simple.
I definitely think it's down to your handwriting but at the same time after being told it needs to be posted to 2B not 23 they should have noted that down and the problem would have been solved.
Instead of 2B use 2b.
23 should have been sorted after the misunderstanding was clarified, though.

I work for Royal Mail and I’d read that as 23 or 213, as a regular seller you should use proper labels that are printed and not hand written, just off experience, if the person answered too they could have said it was the wrong address it wasn’t them and maybe it might have been corrected some how

If u look at the sticker from the post office is says 23 so that’s where they sent it if u look on the left of the parcel but after she went it should of been sent to the right place
Ur problem is at the post office not royalmail if u check the postage charge label it says 23 and that’s where ur problem lies , it doesn’t matter who u talk to if the postie is unsure of the address we check the postage charge label
That's not clear to be fair. Why I never handwrite labels. However, after your customer asked about it you'd think it would have been sorted.
I thought it was a 23 when I first saw it. Senders not making the numbering clear causes delays and the same Postie might not be delivering each day which might also mean something like this isn't worked out quickly.
At 1st glance it looks like 23 to me i can see why they struggled but she confirmed it with her local post office think both the sender and royalmail made a mistake. The sender could have made sure it was seen as the correct address.
Unfortunately the post office put 23 on the label, legally royalmail have to deliver to the address provided expecially when special delivery.
You can see the destination postcode and number on the barcode that was printed by the post office.
I would go to 23 and see if they had a card to go n collect it from PO
post office omitted the decimal place on a small parcel sent to eu. resulting import tax was 70 quid. they cant even read their own forms
I always do the B in lower case and smaler when it's a number followed by a letter, it usually does the trick!

The address isn't clear! You should have printed the address slip. And postal items must be delivered to the postal address, failure to do so is in breach of royal mail 's operating licence!
I would have put: 2(b) or 2(B), or made sure initially the ‘B’ was fully clear - ie solid. When I post to my brother, I always put: 121(c).
Tracked 48 is a joke. I'm in South London. Mailed the parcel to the buyer in Hounslow and it was stuck at their Jubilee MC Depot for nearly a week. 😤😤😡😡🤬🤬
