I just thought of the coolest vr game ever. I would call it town of tumbleweed. The way it would work is 50-100 users would join into a server, it would be playable without vr. upon joining the game you randomly get issued a role. Cook, Farmer, bartender, sheriff, bandit, banker etc. Or you get the opportunity to chose but each game has a limit to has many people can have a set role. A set amount of people would be tasked with solving a specific crime, or duty. But these tasks would take real time to complete on an open world large scale map. Players if they are going to join a game are required to use a microphone, as you have to interact with other players often to get closer to finishing your task. each game would last a week or even more. The game would finish who ever completed the most tasks, and gained the most money in the end would be declared the winner. You would lose points and have yourself displayed as a vilian if you commit crimes you weren't meant to. Such as killing random people, and such. And this would out a bounty on your head, sending an alert to every other players in the game. There would as a be a game manager. So like a realistic rts rpg strategy open world pvx pvp pve mmo
I love how everyone is saying like, a bunch of common apps, such as Discord, Amino, Twitter etc. But then there’s me, chilling on Wattpad with like, I dunno, 50+ of my rp buddies, with really descriptive role plays that I want more people to join because d a m n I love them!
the best advice i can give to new roleplayers is to not be afraid of asking for things or tell people things that bother you. if you don't like the plot you have decided on when you get into it, don't ghost them, tell them. it's frustrating to be ghosted about something you can fix or change. also make sure you are always asking for peoples triggers before even starting! it's important to make sure you don't make other people uncomfortable or relapse into something.
yes! i always tell my rp partners to let me know if something's wrong or if they needed a break from the rps we do. it certainly helps to have mutual understanding
Cannot wait to see more of these! Right now Discord is where I solely roleplay for the convenience of it. I can still enjoy the hobby while bound to mobile via the app. As for what I wish I’d known going in... probably a list of general dos and don’ts.
Nice to see that there are still roleplaying fans. I mostly use discord but its hard to find a normal server that isnt to strict and has no drama. I am also a bit anxious to ask people to roleplay because i mostly do elaborate chaotic roleplays with surrealistic hints in them. Sorry for my rant. I wish you all a happy day
Just discovered this channel due to a comment you posted in another video. I've never done this type of role playing, but I've heard of it and seen others doing it. Amino is a mobile app that features some of these communities based around fictional properties, like anime. You do make this sound more interesting than I originally thought it would be. Definitely something to consider.
I searched roleplaying because I was curious if anyone talks about it. I've been roleplaying since I was 17, I'm 28 now and still do it from time to time. I'm a writer on my own time now, but RP'ing really helped me with my writing. I've grown SOO much and can write paragraphs at a time in my replies. To have someone match that is always difficult but it's *so* good once it happens.
I’ve always liked roleplaying as a part of my strong imagination and have been roleplaying for as long as I can remember, but I do get upset now as not many people enjoy roleplay, but it’s nice to see the roleplay community all come together and chat! I started roleplaying as a way to rebut my emotions as an autistic kid and haven’t stopped lol, glad to see that there are quite a few people who like roleplay too lol 😅
I roleplay in the online text based society simulator MMORPG called Cantr II. Some of the in-game physics can slightly limit the freedoms in plot creation as opposed to free-form roleplaying, but with that being said, Cantr has amazing programmed mechanics which support long-term storylines that can get very complex and emotional over time. You can reign over a kingdom, run a business, sail with your own ship crew, romance a partner, etc. I highly recommend it to anyone who hasn’t tried it yet!

I'm so glad I stumbled across your video because I am a HUGE text-based roleplay fan and I have been doing it since *gasp* the Yahoo! chat Vampire Tavern days...I miss the incredible stories we write together and I still have dreams of them as though they are distant memories. While being on the hunt for a new way to just chat/rp freely, I keep finding numerous empty Discord servers and old dusty forums. Where my nerds at?!
I started on DeviantArt, for OC groups, met a few people there and moved on to one on one RP, and last year got back into group roleplay, thanks to discord. Discord is now where I was able to bring my long time plot to life, with some help from some of my RP friends, and I love it. It's so great to see this plot I've had for so long, and used in one on one RPs come to life with other people, and feels great to see people enjoying this world I spent so much time creating and evolving over time. I am completely sold on Discord now. The way servers can be organized was MADE for roleplay. It's so great for organization. I have some one on one RPs there, and my group has been going strong for almost a year now. For me, as far as struggles go, I struggle to be play the 'bad guy.' Just the straight villain, no matter the motives, I never do well. I have trouble getting into that mindset. I can play an antagonist, someone who might do bad things, but isn't necessarily a bad person, and have no issues playing the 'good guy' who has plenty of issues and moral conflicts, but could never just play the downright villain. I also never enjoyed playing female characters, despite being female myself. I feel that this is due to the fact that I have always been more drawn to male characters, in all of media. I have very few characters, in anything I'm a fan of, who are female. I can think of only TWO off the top of my head. My favorites are male 98% of the time, and most often are support characters as well. So, I think because of that, I was drawn to create and play male characters, as soon as I discovered roleplay.
Yaaaas everything you said about discord really is why I am using it now. I think you're not alone in struggling to play villains. I'm putting that on my list of video ideas for the future because I think a lot of us hesitate when trying to roleplay someone who is truly doing bad things.
Omg I'm total opposite lol. I can play villains with such ease, but I struggle playing heros. I feel like if I play good guys then I make them so bland. Idk.
Samee. Like every time when I try to play female characters I feel limited in way. That's why I mostly play as male characters in rps even though I'm a girl
I remember RP-ing on chatango a long time ago when I was still in my 20's. Probably haven't used it in a over a decade. Gaia Online rings a bell in my memory. A lot of people used it, but not quite sure if I ever joined that community. Text-based roleplaying is pretty fun. I remember creating campaigns with friends in my early teens. I didn't have any D&D stuff like they did, so I had to make everything from scratch. I created Hiveworld. A campaign where the heroes (my friends) were given the goal to infiltrate and destroy an evil alien planet and it's inhabitants. They died during their first encounter. I was very disappointed. I had made their opponent too powerful. Lesson learned. Oh well... I think the campaign with all my notes is still in a box somewhere.
@@itsKarenTerry Thanks! I would probably refine it a lot more and probably give the heroes a lot better equipment and means to succeed. In hindsight it was them against countless hordes of crawling nightmares. I still wasn't entirely sure how they would manage to activate the planetary self-destruct mechanism and get away safely without dying.

Playlists with music that resonates with the script help me. I listen to them when i feel a writers block come on. Also dont push yourself, take breaks and relax for a bit. Inspiration and motivation come better at a relaxing environment then a stressing one. My last tip is make text sketches. Just start writing doesnt matter what and tweek it later to a more detailed script
I’ve used Kik and Discord. But it’s so hard to find someone who is good. 🙄 I love writing, so roleplaying is a good outlet for pleasure and less stress! And even though it’s a pain in the ass to find a good partner, it’s so worth it. Personal tip: understand what you want, and make that very clear, if you partner is not making that clear, then make sure they knows!

@@rqberta Well everyone has their own style! :) But now when I roleplay many people want paragraphs or sentences instead of just showing the action and I've gotten used to it. Honestly I prefer it but it's okay if you still use it! ^^
My style is a mix of both, I can be a little detailed but not that detailed like how you wrote a more detailed way of explaining the character is growling and saying they hate whoever they are saying it towards. (I love a good detailed action or expression T~T)

I've done a ton of epic scale rp and they feel like text adventure games in a way. so immersive i find it better than any videogame! memories are only like our imagination, so to me it feels like creating memories. absolutely love it.
I really get the feeling that text based roleplay is dying out....maybe I'm just searching in the wrong places...but it's my favourite thing to do. I'm kind of afraid to join any group because im insecure about my characters and me, and how people will pick it up...maybe that's another issue of mine

_Nihilumbra_ Just make your account and if you rping an anime character, just search up other characters names, if your rping an oc, type in the hashtag “ocrp” or something like “openrp” and some posts should come up! Click on a couple and see what their accounts are like, and Dm them! Also if your doing an anime character tell me and I can see if I have an rp account with the same anime! Also if your doing a character your going to want a basic description of the character, eg, name, age, birthday and a quote , with your character as your chosen profile picture,
A friend and I recently started one together I haven't really done it seriously but thought it would be fun so we started since we both liked D&D and such
I've been roleplaying on Amino for almost 2 years now, and honestly it's really good, I feel like my writing has improved a lot. Lately though, I've been really wanting to rp as some cannon characters, with other people doing the same, but that's really hard to find on Amino, or at least that's how my experience has been so far. Since I haven't found somewhere where I can do that yet, I go on Roblox sometimes lolol. It's kinda fun, but not really that good, your answers have to be quick so you can't do detailed actions, + there is an odd mix of ppl rping seriously, ppl joke rping and straight up trolls, all in the same space, which is a bit annoying lol. That and the storylines are never finished, bc usually people just leave before we can conclude it.
For me, I mainly struggle in basically finding things to write in my paragraph. I currently am in a roleplay where you can be literally anything, and I chose to be basically an evolved version of the parasitic fungus known as Cordyceps, where it's basically the lore of The Last of Us in regard to the ability which my fungi has. I just don't really know what detail I'm supposed to look for putting in, i guess?
Oh god I love seeing other text-based roleplayers! I started on Neopets, then moved to GaiaOnline. From there I shifted to messengers (like AIM, MSN, ect) and forum based styles of RP on IGN or php (ect), and now I've shifted to Tumblr and Discord! I'm still learning discord style, I mainly use it for 1x1 style). I'm so curious if we ever crossed paths over Gaia or any of the old-style rps!
discord is definitely the best for me although when I first started and never knew text based rp was even a thing I found out through rping in video games

Thanks for coming in my recommended. Now I can remember all the good times roleplaying in Roblox before our community got tainted with bad examples. The only problem I run into with roleplay is actually finding people who wanna do it.
I started on neopets when I was 8 before moving to Gaia (which is still a thing!) in middle school. There were a few private forums thrown in there, too. I'm now on discord exclusively, it's just set up so much better.
This is so similar to my experience, except I never got around to the rp side of neopets. I played the hell out of some minigames on there though. Discord is where I am now, and it's so funny you said you were on Gaia in middle school because that's around when I was on there as well, but I think I was actually in High School at that point.
Gods, I remember Gaia. I went back a year and a half ago, but it;s changed. The meta is now overly long, flowery posts, with 2-5 people. And if you don;t have a fancy layout, no one will deal with you.

I got my start roleplaying on AOL chat and Gaia online, and later on LiveJournal. Now I'm on a different, smaller platform that definitely has its own culture to it.
LJ rp was amazing in a lot of ways. The thing I miss about it is dressing rooms. I wish there was an equivalent to that today, but social media now a days just doesn't really lend itself to that.

I currently use amino as there's a large base of people. Discord is more convenient however I struggle to find people that would enjoy my plots, as many are advanced literate, I am not, and am in a sort of pre-semi lit after asterisk type stage, I don't write paras, it's complicated xD
I have been roleplaying since 2012 and recently I started finding it hard to find new people to roleplay with to build complex stories. People are usually are either offering too little or demanding too much. It's sad to see(especially on Facebook) roleplay communities die slowly

I certainly will. Can you do a video about how to write an introduction post/advertisement for the roleplays? In 7 years I could never manage to do that properly from the fear of telling too much or too little. I can write pages and pages worth of story but can't summarize it into a short interesting post without vomiting confusing information or leaving it vague.
I’ve got a few coming up that should help with this. One is rpg plots. It’s intended for rpg mods but has some good stuff. I’ve also got one in production that’s about writing clearly. I first started out my Roleplaying on a website called Quotev. It's where I found rp groups that I joined before making my own rp group haha, but I no longer use it. Now, I use Instagram. I quite like it.
i started rp on roblox and now i rp on discord i honestly really like rping because its a fun thing to do with my friends, and my computer is really bad so i cant usually play any games with them, so rp is like a sort of substitute for that in terms of something to do with friends? plus i think its uber fun lol

I got my start around this time last year, because a friend and I were both interested in harry potter, and she found a roleplay server on discord, and she ended up inviting me. From there I’ve been in a bunch more roleplay servers.
I would have loved for this video to exist when I was getting started many years ago! I'll definitely think of it when I'm trying to explain to someone new. One of the things I struggle with is explaining paragraph and multi-paragraph based roleplaying games to friends I've met offline who are looking at it new. It's understandable, it took me a long time to get myself, but for me it was probably easier joining a community of people who knew what they were doing, rather than having one teacher in a group of people who don't know what they're doing. I'd be keen to see your take on a video that goes into the why and how of paragraph based free-form roleplaying games, or maybe a getting started video or something like that.

Me too! I had this amazing fantasy roleplay with an awesome plot, amazing characters, etc. And one day they just disappeared from the face of the earth and asked if they wanted to continue and said yeah but they never did. Still upset about it.
I personally roleplay on discord. I actually own my own roleplay server. It's based around dragon ball, but it's still lots of fun. I roleplay in the 3rd person, which i personally find the best. What i wish i knew was how cringy i was. I was very... Meh at it.
This is gonna be cringe, but Roblox is where I began my roleplaying days. I slowly migrate over from Roblox to Discord. I use to RP before they got all strict with censoring and other wackness. Discord is better either way.
Discord is what I prefer to use currently although I got my start in Gaia Online. (which is still around although it's nowhere near as popular as it was)
I roleplay on Discord and Twitter. Personally, Discord is better since you can use Tupperbox bots to use several characters instead of using your account to roleplay your character. But Twitter is good as well to find many role players.
Pov: You're staring at your responses about a year ago ago then looking at your responses now She nervously opened the door. She hesitantly grabbed the cold, bronze doorknob, her hands shaking. The girl slowly twisted the doorknob, peaking through the sliver of the door she har opened. She hesitated before opening the door a little moore and slipping through the open space.
This, kind of rp i started off doing and prefer. I miss it. I ended up rping for a while on second life but while it;s partially written and it;s nice to be able to visually represent your character and some limited sets, it is more restrictive in a lot of ways and not as consistent as the kind I did on forums years ago. I really miss this kind of rp and I am thinking discord might be a good option for me today, maybe. I originally started rping on yahoo groups, and then forums about the year 1999-2000. Then around 2008ish ended up on second life and lost contact with my old rp groups and it;s just to fast paced, inconstant, and limited in second life even though I liked having the ability to see some things, I still personally focus on text in rp, while others get to dependent on visuals. I really miss not just the ways could rp in text only platforms, but the communities and finding players that you could know and rp with over years in different settings. Also the lower turnover rate of the rp groups.
I go to feralfront (formerly warriorcatsrpg). It's a great roleplaying site that started as a warriors roleplay. I have been roleplaying on it since 2012. We roleplay most like how the books are written. "Speech", _thought_ , and normal. I am teaching myself to keep my normal text to a minimum. Since it gives away too much and just adds unneeded information. I recently found something fun called the name game. You put an apprentice name and then someone else turns it into a warrior name and leaves another apprentice name. Ex: Pearlpaw Pearlgaze, glasspaw Glassheart, amberpaw And so on. Very fun!!
It's fun too! I love to create characters, and I learn a lot from it. I might create some videos with tips and tricks. But I've only ever roleplayed on feralfront. So I don't know if they'd work for others.
I´m just stuck on f-ing Whatsapp, in between school, work and family chat there are just some Groups like "portera Mafia oc´s" or "Kingdom of Light RP" and for some reason everyone seems to look exactly then at my phone when i recieve a notification of characters either ra111ng or k1111ng each other-

Thanks so much for this video! I used to roleplay back on Amino (ugh) and it's been so long I needed a refresher, but only could find videos on "do's and don'ts" or tips, where none actually explained in depth what it is or the process.

I'm so glad I stumbled across your video because I am a HUGE text-based roleplay fan and I have been doing it since *gasp* the Yahoo! chat Vampire Tavern days...I miss the incredible stories we write together and I still have dreams of them as though they are distant memories. While being on the hunt for a new way to just chat/rp freely, I keep finding numerous empty Discord servers and old dusty forums. Where my nerds at?!

I started on DeviantArt, for OC groups, met a few people there and moved on to one on one RP, and last year got back into group roleplay, thanks to discord. Discord is now where I was able to bring my long time plot to life, with some help from some of my RP friends, and I love it. It's so great to see this plot I've had for so long, and used in one on one RPs come to life with other people, and feels great to see people enjoying this world I spent so much time creating and evolving over time.
I am completely sold on Discord now. The way servers can be organized was MADE for roleplay. It's so great for organization. I have some one on one RPs there, and my group has been going strong for almost a year now.
For me, as far as struggles go, I struggle to be play the 'bad guy.' Just the straight villain, no matter the motives, I never do well. I have trouble getting into that mindset. I can play an antagonist, someone who might do bad things, but isn't necessarily a bad person, and have no issues playing the 'good guy' who has plenty of issues and moral conflicts, but could never just play the downright villain.
I also never enjoyed playing female characters, despite being female myself. I feel that this is due to the fact that I have always been more drawn to male characters, in all of media. I have very few characters, in anything I'm a fan of, who are female. I can think of only TWO off the top of my head. My favorites are male 98% of the time, and most often are support characters as well.
So, I think because of that, I was drawn to create and play male characters, as soon as I discovered roleplay.
Yaaaas everything you said about discord really is why I am using it now.
I think you're not alone in struggling to play villains. I'm putting that on my list of video ideas for the future because I think a lot of us hesitate when trying to roleplay someone who is truly doing bad things.
Omg I'm total opposite lol. I can play villains with such ease, but I struggle playing heros. I feel like if I play good guys then I make them so bland. Idk.

I remember RP-ing on chatango a long time ago when I was still in my 20's. Probably haven't used it in a over a decade.
Gaia Online rings a bell in my memory. A lot of people used it, but not quite sure if I ever joined that community.
Text-based roleplaying is pretty fun. I remember creating campaigns with friends in my early teens. I didn't have any D&D stuff like they did, so I had to make everything from scratch.
I created Hiveworld. A campaign where the heroes (my friends) were given the goal to infiltrate and destroy an evil alien planet and it's inhabitants.
They died during their first encounter. I was very disappointed. I had made their opponent too powerful. Lesson learned. Oh well... I think the campaign with all my notes is still in a box somewhere.
Hiveworld sounds amazing! I wonder what you could do with that concept now with your greater knowledge.

In hindsight it was them against countless hordes of crawling nightmares.
I still wasn't entirely sure how they would manage to activate the planetary self-destruct mechanism and get away safely without dying.

I have been roleplaying for a while and I have used Discord to roleplay with my friends. It has been easy to get into the roleplay as I have some kind of experience of fantasy writing and musical composing

Playlists with music that resonates with the script help me. I listen to them when i feel a writers block come on. Also dont push yourself, take breaks and relax for a bit. Inspiration and motivation come better at a relaxing environment then a stressing one. My last tip is make text sketches. Just start writing doesnt matter what and tweek it later to a more detailed script

I love writing, so roleplaying is a good outlet for pleasure and less stress! And even though it’s a pain in the ass to find a good partner, it’s so worth it.
Personal tip: understand what you want, and make that very clear, if you partner is not making that clear, then make sure they knows!

@@rqberta Well everyone has their own style! :) But now when I roleplay many people want paragraphs or sentences instead of just showing the action and I've gotten used to it. Honestly I prefer it but it's okay if you still use it! ^^

My style is a mix of both, I can be a little detailed but not that detailed like how you wrote a more detailed way of explaining the character is growling and saying they hate whoever they are saying it towards. (I love a good detailed action or expression T~T)

I've done a ton of epic scale rp and they feel like text adventure games in a way. so immersive i find it better than any videogame! memories are only like our imagination, so to me it feels like creating memories. absolutely love it.
I really get the feeling that text based roleplay is dying out....maybe I'm just searching in the wrong places...but it's my favourite thing to do. I'm kind of afraid to join any group because im insecure about my characters and me, and how people will pick it up...maybe that's another issue of mine

_Nihilumbra_ Just make your account and if you rping an anime character, just search up other characters names, if your rping an oc, type in the hashtag “ocrp” or something like “openrp” and some posts should come up! Click on a couple and see what their accounts are like, and Dm them! Also if your doing an anime character tell me and I can see if I have an rp account with the same anime! Also if your doing a character your going to want a basic description of the character, eg, name, age, birthday and a quote , with your character as your chosen profile picture,

I've been roleplaying on Amino for almost 2 years now, and honestly it's really good, I feel like my writing has improved a lot.
Lately though, I've been really wanting to rp as some cannon characters, with other people doing the same, but that's really hard to find on Amino, or at least that's how my experience has been so far.
Since I haven't found somewhere where I can do that yet, I go on Roblox sometimes lolol. It's kinda fun, but not really that good, your answers have to be quick so you can't do detailed actions, + there is an odd mix of ppl rping seriously, ppl joke rping and straight up trolls, all in the same space, which is a bit annoying lol. That and the storylines are never finished, bc usually people just leave before we can conclude it.
I'm new to discord roleplay, and it's been really fun to learn stuff and write things
For me, I mainly struggle in basically finding things to write in my paragraph. I currently am in a roleplay where you can be literally anything, and I chose to be basically an evolved version of the parasitic fungus known as Cordyceps, where it's basically the lore of The Last of Us in regard to the ability which my fungi has. I just don't really know what detail I'm supposed to look for putting in, i guess?
My friends and I randomly just start and then add things to it. we don't even know sometimes how we got to the scenarios we get to sometimes

Oh god I love seeing other text-based roleplayers! I started on Neopets, then moved to GaiaOnline. From there I shifted to messengers (like AIM, MSN, ect) and forum based styles of RP on IGN or php (ect), and now I've shifted to Tumblr and Discord! I'm still learning discord style, I mainly use it for 1x1 style). I'm so curious if we ever crossed paths over Gaia or any of the old-style rps!

I started on neopets when I was 8 before moving to Gaia (which is still a thing!) in middle school. There were a few private forums thrown in there, too. I'm now on discord exclusively, it's just set up so much better.
This is so similar to my experience, except I never got around to the rp side of neopets. I played the hell out of some minigames on there though. Discord is where I am now, and it's so funny you said you were on Gaia in middle school because that's around when I was on there as well, but I think I was actually in High School at that point.
Gods, I remember Gaia. I went back a year and a half ago, but it;s changed. The meta is now overly long, flowery posts, with 2-5 people. And if you don;t have a fancy layout, no one will deal with you.

I’ve had experience for a very long time but I’ve been struggling with writing long posts as I’ve had people ghost me due to not matching their level. So if you can do a video on what to do if I get ghosted more and how to find acceptable partners that’d be appreciated.
For rp on discord and on a server I highly suggest Tupper Box you can make any character you want and clears confusion for which character your speaking or playing as
I got my start roleplaying on AOL chat and Gaia online, and later on LiveJournal. Now I'm on a different, smaller platform that definitely has its own culture to it.
LJ rp was amazing in a lot of ways. The thing I miss about it is dressing rooms. I wish there was an equivalent to that today, but social media now a days just doesn't really lend itself to that.
started rping when i was 15, fast forward to now, 21, the difference between my reponses back then and now is so jarring i couldn't help but to cringe and laugh at the way the old me do them.

I currently use amino as there's a large base of people. Discord is more convenient however I struggle to find people that would enjoy my plots, as many are advanced literate, I am not, and am in a sort of pre-semi lit after asterisk type stage, I don't write paras, it's complicated xD
There are definitely different styles that are more popular on different platforms! I’m not super familiar with amino, but I hear great things.
I have been roleplaying since 2012 and recently I started finding it hard to find new people to roleplay with to build complex stories. People are usually are either offering too little or demanding too much. It's sad to see(especially on Facebook) roleplay communities die slowly

I certainly will. Can you do a video about how to write an introduction post/advertisement for the roleplays? In 7 years I could never manage to do that properly from the fear of telling too much or too little. I can write pages and pages worth of story but can't summarize it into a short interesting post without vomiting confusing information or leaving it vague.
I’ve got a few coming up that should help with this. One is rpg plots. It’s intended for rpg mods but has some good stuff. I’ve also got one in production that’s about writing clearly. Once those go up let me know what questions you still have and I can do a follow up that’s more targeted to posting 1x1 advertisements!
I first started out my Roleplaying on a website called Quotev. It's where I found rp groups that I joined before making my own rp group haha, but I no longer use it. Now, I use Instagram. I quite like it.

I got my start around this time last year, because a friend and I were both interested in harry potter, and she found a roleplay server on discord, and she ended up inviting me. From there I’ve been in a bunch more roleplay servers.

I would have loved for this video to exist when I was getting started many years ago! I'll definitely think of it when I'm trying to explain to someone new.
One of the things I struggle with is explaining paragraph and multi-paragraph based roleplaying games to friends I've met offline who are looking at it new. It's understandable, it took me a long time to get myself, but for me it was probably easier joining a community of people who knew what they were doing, rather than having one teacher in a group of people who don't know what they're doing. I'd be keen to see your take on a video that goes into the why and how of paragraph based free-form roleplaying games, or maybe a getting started video or something like that.

Now I roleplay on Discord with combat/fantasy. Mix between anime, shows, movies, books, original worlds, etc.
Use to be a one liner or just under semi lit.

i use amino for roleplaying. it tends to be hard to find good roleplay though. ive been roleplaying on amino from around 3 years, and ive noticed that getting ghosted is common. :/

This is gonna be cringe, but Roblox is where I began my roleplaying days. I slowly migrate over from Roblox to Discord. I use to RP before they got all strict with censoring and other wackness. Discord is better either way.
Discord is what I prefer to use currently although I got my start in Gaia Online. (which is still around although it's nowhere near as popular as it was)
That's a shame to hear it's lost popularity, but I understand. In my mind it's so early 2000s internet, which in internet years is ancient.
I roleplay on Discord and Twitter. Personally, Discord is better since you can use Tupperbox bots to use several characters instead of using your account to roleplay your character. But Twitter is good as well to find many role players.

This, kind of rp i started off doing and prefer. I miss it. I ended up rping for a while on second life but while it;s partially written and it;s nice to be able to visually represent your character and some limited sets, it is more restrictive in a lot of ways and not as consistent as the kind I did on forums years ago. I really miss this kind of rp and I am thinking discord might be a good option for me today, maybe. I originally started rping on yahoo groups, and then forums about the year 1999-2000. Then around 2008ish ended up on second life and lost contact with my old rp groups and it;s just to fast paced, inconstant, and limited in second life even though I liked having the ability to see some things, I still personally focus on text in rp, while others get to dependent on visuals. I really miss not just the ways could rp in text only platforms, but the communities and finding players that you could know and rp with over years in different settings. Also the lower turnover rate of the rp groups.

I go to feralfront (formerly warriorcatsrpg). It's a great roleplaying site that started as a warriors roleplay. I have been roleplaying on it since 2012.
We roleplay most like how the books are written. "Speech", _thought_ , and normal. I am teaching myself to keep my normal text to a minimum. Since it gives away too much and just adds unneeded information.
I recently found something fun called the name game. You put an apprentice name and then someone else turns it into a warrior name and leaves another apprentice name.
Ex:
Pearlpaw
Pearlgaze, glasspaw
Glassheart, amberpaw
And so on. Very fun!!
Warrior cats came along after my time lol but I see it everywhere. Warrior cats rp is so popular!
It's fun too! I love to create characters, and I learn a lot from it. I might create some videos with tips and tricks. But I've only ever roleplayed on feralfront. So I don't know if they'd work for others.

I am trying to revive RhyDin AOL chat-style RPG in my Discord channel.... I am having trouble explaining to people who have never done multi-para chat RPG, how it works..
