Kekht Arakh is my favorite black metal band running at the moment, everything hes done has been flawless the production the themes and lyrics. i can only stomach so many hundreds of bands singing about Satan before it just becomes a homogenized blur of inverted pentagrams and and corpse paint. Kekht Arakh (for me) has been a breath of fresh air in a genre that is close to my heart but at the same time dangerously close to stagnation. i totally understand the people who want to keep shit trve and kvlt, but Kekht Arakh doesnt take away from or diminish those black metal bands that play it by the book. i hope to see more from this project, i'm so interested to see if crying orc will go further down the raw black metal path of try and make an even prettier sound with more gothic influences.
totally agreeing, sometimes the satan bands can become way too cringy, like "WE HATE EVERYONE" next post our vocalist died of ketamine overdose someone says fuck that piece of shit and the band is like "oooh nooo i crying now"

I love that phonograph record player hiss effect on the album & the raw sound…to me it sounds like something someone dug up & discovered in an old wooden box from the 1800’s in the forest somewhere.
For me it was the best black metal album of 2021, it was trve & clean at the same time and it gave me the nostalgia about a period of my life where i was spending my nights listening to underground BM songs while playing Minecraft. The fact it is memable show that the album is somewhat unique despite having a lot of obvious inspirations.
Damn it I thought I was the only one who had a BM + Minecraft phase lol. Listened to a lot of first wave shit while playing that game, Mercyful Fate being my favorite.
I honestly found Këkht Aräkh by scrolling through Bandcamp, became one of my favorite black metal artists. He put his own spin on black metal and made something original, yet sticking to the roots of the genre.
Lets face it, there is a reason why people snicker at this band and the style he has taken. Sensitive love songs is not what you expect from black metal. In Post black metal, maybe and maaaaaybe in dsbm id you stretch it a bit but not in black metal. That said, I cannot help but admit that the album is really damn good. 😎👍
Apart when you read out of curiosity you come out learning that the boy behind this bodrio of project had taken out a cover of the anime sailor moon. Too cold and raw! Hahaha
blending the romantic gothic themes of, well, goth rock with raw black metal is actually a pretty smart fusion in my opinion (not that it matters) though many will lament it's not kvlt though I would disagree in terms of the melancholy/ nostalgia and overall punchy rawness, fits more into dsbm crossover though doesn't really sit in an veritable subgenre, it was a nice listen overall.
In his music video "The Wanderer" the only thing that's really lol worthy is the hiphop/rap hand gestures that he does while singing. Other than that, Këkht Aräkh is actually a very good band, definitely has that old Judas Iscariot vibe that I haven't heard in a long time, it's very refreshing to hear.
Got recommended to this album on spotify today and I really love the sound of this band. I finished the album twice now and just learned about the references of the band name here. As a Cambodian metalhead, that makes me happy because it's rare to see something like that.
i honestly enjoy that BM musicians are exploring new themes beside satan, hate and depression. Also, love as a theme has so much more to offer than what Popmusic is willed to explore. And 'Swordsman' is ofc my favorite song :D
