I played elden ring on my bro's ps4, did this bossfight, played on a TV, didn't notice anything special about the music. Never finished the game either because he moved cities. Later I got it on my pc, and recently (last week) played this boss fight with my headphones on. I was caught off guard and distracted by how good the music was to me. I was almost more focused on the music rather than the boss fight. made a mental note to search up the song after that, and when i found it didn't have the singing, had to search up a version that did. It reminds me of the solemn, soft beauty of the first phase of Sister Friede's ost. Both songs are so good. Truly a special song and a special game.
Yep this is where it truly hit me up until this point i was just begging for a fight to truly blow me away and while she can be annoying on subsequent playthroughs now my 1st fight ill never forget the theme blew me away and that switch to 2nd phase and the water with the moon in the background shit gave me goosebumps rennala truly blew me away my jaw was dropped that whole 1st encounter
Phase 1: Rennala is still completely enraptured by the amber egg. She doesn't realise the danger she is in. Her students, the "sweetings" are barely conscious but are at least able to recognise the threat you pose. They are extremely weak, and being artificially created cannot even stand up. But between them, they continue the incantation to protect their mother. Rennala, still unaware of the battle and the sweetings incapable of emotion other than bliss, keeps killing and rebirthing the sweetings. Imagine how powerful Rennala would be if she was capable of focusing on you? When you finally strike her down, she is mostly unharmed because of her latent power, but the egg is cracked and vulnerable. Phase 2: Ranni detects her mother is in danger, and weaves an illusion to kill you. A memory, of her mother before Radagon ruined her. Stoically silent, unspeakably powerful sorceress able to bring the very moon crashing upon you. But an illusion doesn't hold a candle to her former power, and is defeated. You are able to pull the great rune out of the egg, leaving it powerless. But Rennala, still oblivious to anything other than her egg and her sweetings, doesn't notice. She can no longer eternally rebirth her children, but she doesn't care. She is no longer capable of caring for anything other than her precious amber.
@@KaraSub2.0I don't remember her saying anything about it, but I think it's best she knows as it was said by the illusion, "I, ranni the witch" or sm, mb if it's wrong as I finished the game like a year ago😅😅😅
@@EdalynAnarchy Ranni never mentions the fact that the tarnished fought her mother, even though it is necessary to complete her quest. I imagine it is because the spell that causes Renalla's phase 2 is a sort of automatic security system that Ranni set up long before the tarnished makes it to Liurnia. Meaning she is not actually talking there, as it would effectively be a recorded message meant to scare away intruders.
Rennalas story realy hit me hard, her family was completley demolished by the course of everything going on. I can feel her trying to cling to what little sanity she has left through the fight. And the spell ranni casts to protect her mother the ONLY person she seems to have deep affection for comepletley took me in awe.
I agree. She has such a terribly sad story, a mother having her children and husband all lost to the forces in the Lands Between. Lost to greed for the ring, lost to the Greater Will, I'm sure all she wanted was her little academy and her little family away from all the bullshit the greater will brought. Poor thing.
"Mother's umbra": "umbra" is the name we give to the moon's shadow cast during solar eclipses. The children of the moon are telling us to sleep in the embrace of the moon, far away from the sun (Radagon). Basically she's telling us that she's really in pain from what Radagon has done to her. Leaving her for duty rather than true love. What finer husband can there be than a "loyal hound of the Golden Order", after all?
So they’re Ranalas most loyal students that willingly allowed themselves to be changed by her. Was she trying to replicate Ranni, it doesn’t mention her having any daughters besides her. I thought her mind shattered after Radagon left her not when Ranni “died”, I say this because in the second phase when Ranni makes her presence known to her she kinda sorta snaps out of it. Also did getting constantly change cause the students minds and body to break, all they do is crawl around and giggle like toddlers.
@@PROPHET-60091 no I know it’s a projection, I’m saying that after the fight she’s just chillin in her spot and not making any more “children” or floating around the room like prior. She still has the ability to make more children thanks to the egg even without the rune(honestly seeing how messed up they were coming out I doubt she was even using the rune to begin with). The fact that she’s not hostile anymore and actually helps you with the proper process of rebirth shows to me at least that hearing her daughters voice helped her calm down a bit.
The girls singing really disturbed me during the fight. It's hard to explain, but I got the vibe that Raya Lucaria was an extremely prestigious school, one where the girls were groomed from birth and competed really hard with each other to get into, but everyone knew from the get-go that these girls were basically being groomed to be sacrificed for Rennala's aims of reincarnation. The girls would apply knowing this would be the case, and they were fine with this and even happy to live in the school, studying hard during the day and having fun and making memories with their friends during their downtime in their dorms. They'd have sleepovers, study sessions, practice magic with each other, talk, gossip, and generally live their lives, but everything they did would be to prepare themselves for their premature sacrificial deaths. That was my interpretation, anyway.
I always thought it was sorcerers who were transformed in renalla’s attempt to rebirth ranni and that was why all the sorcerers were girls, but I like your interpretation bettee

Elden Ring have a lot of epic boss fights with cool OST but Rennala just hits different. Some obscure, unspeakable charm here I have. It really gives feeling like if I witnessed something like that by myself I would stand still in primal fear of unknown.
Die Musik ist wahnsinn als würde man gegen die schönste Priesterin eines Tempels kämpfen aber man bringt es nicht fertig sie zu verletzen eher versucht sie mit ihrem Gesang dein Herz zu erreichen
Am I the only one who kinda felt bad after beating Rennala? I mean, she was just depressed after her husband and children left. She did not want to become Elden Lord or a Demigod. Instead, she locked herself in the Raya Lucaria library, cherishing the only thing her husband gave her and recreating her children. And we just came to bully her.
Now that I'm done being infuriated by this boss fight I can appreciate the song. Edit: Her fight turned out to be my 2nd favorite fight (after Godfrey Gold) They should get married instead, HA. and thank you for the video/music upload
