  • The Pembrokeshire Coast Path is a National Trail in Wales that is 186 miles/299 kilometres in length and a total ascent equal to the hight of Mount Everest. This is part five in a series of five videos which has been compiled into a playlist. Also, if you're planning to do this trail, there is a Trail Review video, which provides hints and tips that will help you achieve a successful completion. More recently, I have completed a summary video that consolidates all the playlist videos into a single video. Needless to say, this video does not have the same level of detail as the playlist videos but serves the purpose of providing a taster of this National Trail.
( Please help the channel, buy me a coffee here } ko-fi.com/amblingtrails )
We are following a South to North route, starting at Amroth and finishing in Dogmaels near Cardigan. This video portrays the journey from Fishguard to the finish at St Dogmaels, this is days nine and ten with a further fifty minutes used to finish the journey on day 11.
On there morning of day nine we pack away our tent having wild camped the previous night in view of the bay of Fishguard. We start very early in the morning to avoid the heat but on viewing the skies we note this is possibly not a needed strategy as the day is very cloudy and overcast. However, with vigour we set off to achieve our objective of reaching Newport which we have calculated is around a 12 mile hike.
Following the coast line we reach Dinas Island and walk towards the outer tip which is referred on the map as Dinas Head. We endorse our journey by touching the trig point. Continuing the hike we arrive at the 12th century of church of St Brynach's. Having admired the ruin that is slowly sinking into the sea, we move on to reach the outskirts of Newport. Parrot is a little village alongside Newport where we find a great cafe and campsite know as Morawelon Cafe and Campsite.
On the campsite I meet three Polish hikers who are also doing the Coast Path. In the cafe we discuss the various trials and tribulations of trail walking, sharing experiences and ideas for further adventures. We agree the following day to coordinate our efforts and travel together for the remaining part of the journey.
To reach the end is approximately 16 miles. On the costal cliffs a section is referred to as the Witch's Caldron, this was a sea cave previously but the roof has now fallen into the sea .Another section provides the highest point of the walk at 574 feet. We descend from this high point and pass through the farmyard of Allt-y-coed.
As we could not find accommodation at the finish we decide to stay at YHA Poppet Sands for the night. The next morning we arise and walk the last few miles to St Dogmaels. At the finish point we reflect on our journey and then depart for Cardigan to catch the bus and train home.

Great to hear! Really appreciate seeing your comments. I also run when I'm not hiking to keep myself fit and mentally restored. The PCP is certainly now my favourite National Trail, it really does have a great mixture of scenery and challenges. As it happens, I'm considering doing the Gower Peninsular trail next year. Thanks for subscribing, have a great Christmas and a great adventure in the New Year on the PCP.

This has been a really interesting journey to follow. As always thanks for your helpful tips and comments for walkers along the way. Am being persuaded that coast paths are as rewarding as mountains and rivers.

Thanks Catherine, glad you enjoyed the series and I really do appreciate all the comments. I’ve also videoed the Anglesey Coastal Path and that was my first taste of a coastal which certainly convinced me of the joys of cliff walking and witnessing the sea in its many states. ATB Nigel

Enjoyed that Nigel, I’m familiar with a few of the areas so was nice to see them on film and have stayed at the little campsite at Sandy haven ( not shown ) before the little concrete bridge many times.

Hi Alan, thanks for watching the series. Just in case you're interested, I'm aware that there are a couple of books which do circular walks on the PCP, they are in a series titled 'Top 10 Walks: Wales Coast Path'. Cheers, Nigel
