    ❤ this tutorial, thank you! As a beginner, it's useful to watch you cut a fabric with stripes. That way, I can keep track of the bias. For me, too much moving a solid fabric color around makes me lose sight of selvage and bias, this tutorial makes me think I should start with stripes as markers for direction of the fabric.

    This is a great tip! Every binding I make is bias cut and almost all are stripes, plaid, windowpane or other prints that work well on a diagonal. Can’t wait to try this one out. Also, thank you for mentioning that you press most of your seams open. Learning garment construction before quilting, I have always been baffled by the idea of pressing to one side. Pressing open helps me line up seams more easily and the reduced bulk is much easier to quilt on my domestic machines.

      You are so welcome! I'm totally with you on the benefits of pressing seams open. I find it works out so well for me with my quilting projects.

    Salamat po for the tip! I'm just a crazy-about-quilting Filipina in the Philippines, where this craft is not popular. That makes me a bit 'abnormal' here. But anyway I find this tip extra ordinarily new about making bias tape. I'm so glad I bumped into this video. Salamat po❤️

    Great tip, thank you. I would have liked to see how you line up the stripes when doing the finishing join on the quilt. Do you do a regular join or simply fold and overlap?

    • @jaybirdquilts
      @jaybirdquilts  ปีที่แล้ว

      I do a regular join as shown in my books. When possible I try to match up the colors of the stripes to create no visible seams. It isn't always possible, but bias binding can be stretched so when needed I stretch a bit to get things to perfectly match.

    • @jaybirdquilts

      You can do this to join ends if you have enough slack, and then trim the ends down to size for finishing.

    What If you want the stripes straight - not diagonal?

    • @jaybirdquilts
      @jaybirdquilts  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Don't cut the fabric on the bias. Cut it straight-of-grain in the direction you want the stripes oriented. You can use the same technique to match the stripes to sew them together.
