This is how it was explained to me. Looking at the backside is the same as looking the gift horse in the mouth. It shows 1) personality of person 2) expertise of the person = 3) quality of the piece.

So I’ve been stitching for 35 years or so. Start at age 17. Spent a lot of time stitching on busses during travels with my baseball team(s)
I’ve shared this story in the past. One day in Tennessee I was entering a piece in a local fair. I was quick framing it while at the fair. This older woman says to me,”Oh my! The back of your stitch is messy.”She was nice. But it bugged me that she was so concerned about it lol.
I said,”Hi! Those are very nice shoes you have on. Very shinny!” She says,
“Thank you!” So I turn my stitch around to expose the back and say,”How about the bottom of your shoes?” She looks puzzled. I flip the stitch to the front and say,”Top of the shoe” then flip it to the back and say,”Bottom of the shoe”. She smiles and says,” touché”
We became stitching buddies. I’ve since moved to SanDiego and have found neighbors wives to the left and right of my house are stitchers.😁

My partner’s mother just gifted me a cross stitch for my birthday and it’s been so long since I even attempted any that I’ve completely forgotten how lol! Thanks for making this tutorial and making it seem easy and un-fussy! ☺️

Love it thank you! I’m trying to do a baby dragon for my first pattern, but it shows to put a 1/4 stitch but didn’t explain much to how that is. Thank you!!

I have a new design that i am currently doing. And this one has tiny little dots. (Stars) so its almost like a single whole is used. I cant find anywhere that explains these! Any ideas?

Those are French knots!! I have a video of how to do those, or you can use beads, which I will be recording a video for soon. th-cam.com/video/Nbq7XA3N6gE/w-d-xo.html

@@8BitStitch thank you so much. I did see these. But they looked a lot bigger than the circles on the design. ❤

Hello what do you do with all the loose ends

Hi! I usually weave them into previous stitches on the back side or knot off. Check out this video I made about starting and stopping: th-cam.com/video/JsSkFU399N8/w-d-xo.html

I start and finish with a pin knot stitch. Takes more time but it's very secure and has no lose ends or threads showing on the backside or front side. Also you don't have to keep flipping your work to tie off/ secure your thread. I do it because if there is a lot of color changes it makes back stitches 100% easier
