    Nice video, Mike! One small point that you did not discuss was to check that the drive control is exactly at 12 o'clock when performing the peaking - the manual is very specific about this, along with the frequencies per band. The reason is that the selected frequencies are close to the middle of the bands, so by aligning at 12 o'clock, you will have enough travel to reach both the top and bottom of the bands. Before doing this alignment, you need to make sure the drive knob itself is exactly aligned so the max and min positions are at the ends of the panel range. 12 o'clock is set to half way between the end stops. The knob setscrews are often tightened a bit off center if the knob has been removed or has slipped. Been there and done that.

    Hey Mike! Thank you for this video. I have a TS-830s that I am working on and with your explanation on how to do this is very easy. I even went and bought the tools that you use to make alignment. I really enjoy working on the radio.

    Glad you produced this video Mike. I get so many emails asking how to do this. I now have a video to point them to. Well done.

      Kind of figured anyone could do this and I see so many radios with unbalanced TX/RX it would make for a good video.

    I'm gonna watch this closely... I'm flipping a TS820S. I have been babying this radio to be restored and really ready to serve a Ham op who loves hybrid 80's radio design. I am getting a solid 100Watts out on all bands. Thanks for your video. So nice to see and hear how the complicated stuff is done, for better results

      I bought a Ts820s and am learning how to carefully tune it up. How long is it safe to send at 100W?

    • @adriancressy8363
      @adriancressy8363 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@goedeck1 Just a few seconds. Normal voice peaks are ok and you'll occasionally see 100W out

    The 820's are very popular. I think the ones most highly coveted are the ones that were redone and Modified by a guy possibly named Mal. I've read that even before Mal gets his hands on them being that they're in good shape or have been recapped, aligned excetera excetera they're great performers but once this guy Mal gets his hands in there, wow! I haven't heard one myself on air but from what I've read they are quite the performers. They also fetch a premium after Mal(?) gets in them and works his Magic. Is anyone familiar with the person I'm referring to? is his name actually Mal? Are you familiar with this tec Mike? Good to see you're back doing some videos. hope life is treating you well.

      No. You're talking about the FT-102 by Yaesu. That's the only radio Mal does. NC4L. They call them Malcomized radios and again, it's only the FT-102

    I'm glad to watch this video and appreciate the way you had explained every step on how to do it properly, now my concern is with my TS-530S when I attempt to Tune it process is I dont get any play on the meter whatsoever. Does it mean that I had to do this and would it fix the problem? Thank you and always love to watch your tutorial video. Looking forward to hear.

    Another great video! My TS-830s with dual narrow CW filters and the VBT is a rock star now for receiving CW! How about a video CW filters? Mine is in fairly new condition and doesn’t need this adjustment done yet, but some day it will and thanks for the heads up! I thought it had no narrow CW filter at all until I opened the cover and found the jumper in the wrong location. Now how can I tell if mine is the Gold model? I’m the second owner and haven’t had it out of the box until recently. What an awesome surprise!

    Great clearly explained video Mike. I'm curious as to why it changes frequency when you hit the send button? The vfo jumps in frequency. Thanks 73

    • @michaelwiley5427
      @michaelwiley5427 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      It’s how the radio is designed. In CW the radio on receive displays a freq 800 hertz higher than the transmit, this is so that air you tune the radio to hear the same frequency Morse code tone it will be the same pitch as the monitor tone when you transmit. It’s also an easy way to check calibration in field.

    Why does it peak at a different freq from manual?
    Also why did freq change when switching from RX to TX?

    I do work on radios but I have no interest in working on these because there is so much you can screw up by turning the wrong variable or any other thing you can turn . I usually tell people that I will check it out and if I can do a quick fix then I will but I check it out and let them know whats wrong and then tell them they might what to send it to someone that will work on it or at they can let them know whats wrong anyway.

  • @jjelectra

    Hi. I can see that when you put the switch in Send mode, the frequency changes. In my transceiver, the frequency changes too, but the signal meter falls down to zero. Do you know why?

  • @farmerphil
    @farmerphil 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    On my 830 s I do not have the calibration button like the 530 has, Can I inject the signal from the radio or do I need a signal generator. There is a different method in my manual using the tune setting and send switch. I like your way better.any opinions. 73
