He and I rode our carts in the old Mitchel Field base. ( Where Nassau County Arena was.) These days, there is no where to ride them anymore.

My grandpa built me my first go kart out of an old lawn tractor frame. He cut and welded and put a Briggs 5HP motor from a tiller. It looked very much like this thing. Bareboned with nothing extra. I must have put 100,000 miles on that thing! (that's what it felt like) He made me fix it when I broke it so I could learn. The brake was from a bicycle and simply put friction on the drive shaft. I had to change the rubber pads once a week. Every bike I could find was stipped of parts. Great memories and it taught me a ton about how things worked.
I'm building one the same way from the frame and rear axle of an ancient riding mower I found at the dump. I can't weld and don't have a welder, so I have to bolt everything together. It's EXTREMELY janky, rusty, and ugly, but I have ZERO dollars in it! All garbage dump parts. It'll just have a friction brake on the rear tires, and I expect it to do maybe 15mph in the yard 😂.

I'll give some tips from my wleding experience at my work. I'd recommend you hold the TIG torch much closer to the workpiece. You want the arc to be as small as possible to focus the heat on the seam. That will give you better control over the molten puddle and reduce heating of the workpiece. It will help cover the weld with protective gas. It will also make less noise. I hope you were not in AC mode. DC electrode negative is what you want on steel. A 1977 Murray XRZ3 low flyer. Damn seeing that brings back sum high speed memories. I remember being pulled over on mine at 8 years old far going 78 miles per hour on my lil red go kart from hell.
Mounting a tyre while holding the rim (freshly painted) with the vice grips - this is barbaric
The mechanic in me, and the Marine MOS 6048 applaud this video 🤘🤘🤘🤘
When you added a wheel spacer to make more clearance for the clutch, shouldn't you have done it to both sides, for balance?
Yes yes he should have
It’s a children’s toy not an F1 car .wanker
Nice work brother. For keeping a tight budget you did great!!
So you make the wheels look good to then just use vice grips on the and mar the shit out of them ?
Mounting those tires was a lot harder than it looks but yeah. At least they hold air now
@@RestorationStation lube is your friend
@@RestorationStation Dawn Dish soap and you can ALMOST change those tires with little or no tools..... also, NEW tires and not hard, stiff ones from a handcart
It's preety cool to see how dismountable the whole body of the kart is, I shurely thought everything was gonna be welded togeder
Good job...amazing👏👍
i also record restorations .. if you are interested take a look...
Omg.. u have no idea . How much I would love to find something like that.. that needs work...
This is literally perfect for what I would like to find
Great work! A live axle upgrade is always good on these things
Gotta love the jack stand used for the go kart.
That is really cool I have a gocart I am trying to fix. I hope watching this video will give me some insight
The little kid in me loved this! Dang you are talented!! Thanks!!
OMG! I remember driving one that looked like this as a kid! Wanted one of these so bad growing up! I would have preferred the original steering wheel with the horn (I loved beeping at my buddies when riding around) but I do dig that push-start!
It's nice to have the know how and equipment!
Awesome restoration build
What a beautiful project!
Looks like you’ve got something to get around the property with!
В безумном восторге от такой проделанной работе))
Шутка про то, что хотя бы тормозной барабан хорошо смазан, тоже зашла супер)))
Very nice job - I am very impressed with your sewing abilities!
Very nice work !
Anyways I enjoyed the video and I would love to do a project like this myself at some point!
Nice work buddy. 👍
