Hi Friends, Bryan Johnson here 👋.
My health habits were terrible as a kid, I martyred my health for twenty years as I built companies, and I was chronically depressed for a decade. So after forty years of wearing my body down, my biomarkers are now in the top 1%. I openly share all of my learnings and data with the world, hoping that it will help others out. Wishing all of you the best.
Top 1%: Speed of aging (epigenetic)
Top 1%: Muscle mass & function
Top 1%: Fat mass
Top 1%: Inflammation
Top 1%: VO2 max (cardiovascular)
Top 1%: Bone mass
Top 1%: Sleep
Top 1%: Combined clinical markers
You don’t give af what people think about you, that’s your best quality.
I am a little disappointed Dr. Mike did not mention quality sleep as a core pillar of health. To quote you and Will Tennyson:
"If people at home could take something away from you, what would have the most impact?"
"Sleep."
So essentially, you are trying to repair damage you did to yourself when you were younger. Perhaps it may be best to advertise it that way.
Also 1%: amount of people who have had all these markers measured in order to give your 1% any real meaning
Hope you love to 100.
Give the person who places these RP Hypertrophy App ads a raise. They get me every time.

We need that!
I am so grateful that Dr Mike is here on TH-cam, bringing the science, the common sense, not afraid of nuance, not writing off vampires who might be on to something, and still taking valid pot shots at the liver king. This is what we need.
Bryan Johnson looks like a healthy cancer patient.
That's just because he has pale skin.
@@kingakuma7no... He's got a weird bone structure to him. He looks almost like a ghoul
He’s the unhealthiest looking healthy person in the world
There’s no color or vibrancy to his skin, or in his eyes. It’s very odd. Usually healthy, active people have a flush to them, and brightness in their eyes…
Most longevity people don't look great. Which should speak for itself. But there are some honest things that MIGHT be worth thinking about. Like long periods of fasting (48+hrs) probably do a lot to make you healthier. But fasting may deplete certain fat stores we haven't seen depleted in wealthy people in generations. So it might look weird to us. Most rich people don't have sallow cheeks from starving. This may be a fairly new thing to human society. So it's worth considering. Maybe the healthy people of the future won't look optimal according to our old genetic senses.
If Dr Mike wasn't a bodybuilding bro he could be a voice actor

Anybody who says "I wake up naturally" has enough money to wake up naturally...
Or you don't have to drive an hour to get to work. I wake up naturally at 6:30-7 and it's the norm. I'm also poor.
You could say that the kids in boot camp wake up naturally in the morning.... naturally to a garbage can beating and a screaming drill instructors.😮
Small correction because it‘s thrown around so much: Andrew Huberman does not promote looking at the sun directly in any way. He is saying that it‘s good and important to get direct sunlight exposure on your retina, e.g so not behind your window, especially during the sunrise and sunset cause of the angle. You don‘t have to look at the sun at all and of course blink as needed. That is what he is saying.
I respect this guy cause I’ve never seen him say that you have to do it but he’s using himself as science research.
For real, that is pretty commendable.
You kind of fell for his act. He's basically arguing he's doing a single N study. However, it's not helpful nor does it contribute to science. There are three problems with this argument: 1) Nothing he's doing will get us any closer to actually solving aging. Nothing he's doing is remotely economical or practical. He's spending incredible amounts of money and time doing this. It costs him $2 million a year and if you watch his videos he spends the vast majority of his day doing this stuff. He can do it because he's wealthy and a business owner. It's not something anyone, but the elite could do. I personally do not think it's that much of a societal contribution to make wealthy people live longer (they already have way higher than average life expectancies). Very little of what he does could be helpful to the average person or rolled out on a mass scale. By his own admission, the most expensive and time consuming things are the things that seem to him to make a larger impact on his biomarkers. 2) It's a single N study. We don't know if his "results" work beyond him. His protocols are far too expensive and difficult to study with even modest sample sizes. To get adequate power you need to spend at least $60 million to follow participants for a year just for the protocols. Nevermind the other costs of research. We basically only know what happened to him. That's not helpful to anyone else. 3) He's doing way way too much for us to draw any conclusions. If he's a walking single N study then he's also a Gordian Knot of confounding variables. We have zero idea what is doing what and we can probably never know. He's not even waiting to do things bit by bit. He's just throwing everything he can at his body hoping it will make him younger. He's had some success but we have no way of knowing what worked and what was a waste of time and money. That's not good science if you could even call it science at all.
The truth is that he just wants to live longer and he's probably just having a very pronounced midlife crisis (which is actually not a typical phenomenon by the way) with a side of Momento Mori. He just wants to live longer and be young. He doesn't care about the science of what works or anything. He cares that it works. I think he also just kind of wants to be famous and well-liked. He clearly spends a lot of time online and he's tried to get in the news as much as possible. If he just cared about science then he could do that quietly. The problem is that a rich person spending ungodly amounts of money trying to find the fountain of youth isn't going to be well received. So he came up with the "I'm doing it for science" explanation so he doesn't just look like a man abusing his privilege and trying to get around something every other human just has to deal with. That sells better. I'm not buying it. He should stop getting praise for doing something so self centered.
@@MrThatGuyYouForgot You're not smart. His blueprint doesn't cost 2 million and isn't something you need 24/7 for. You everr heard of the quick wins saying? Or the 80% of the results with 20% of the efforts? No? I thought that.
@@robbertag808Blueprint? Do you mean his product? No, the shitty product he sells to people doesn't cost $2 million. I was referring to what he does for himself. A simple Google search would show that I'm right. A little lesson for you: If you're going to insult people's intelligence then you might want to read carefully enough to understand what they're saying. Also insulting people's intelligence would come off better if half your sentences weren't grammatically incorrect and you actually knew what the Pareto Principle was called.
@@robbertag808Oh, I stand corrected. I gave you too much credit. It's not half your sentences that are grammatically incorrect. It's any sentence longer than three words.

It's easy to roll our eyes at a lot of what Mr Johnson is doing but I appreciate that he is recording and sharing the data.
Exactly. He seems like a really chill guy who needlessly gets a lot of hate. I really respect the work he's doing and so what if this is his hobby? As far as billionaire hobbies go - this is far and away the most harmless. At least he's not exploiting workers, jetting around in a private jet or yacht or going to Epstein island type places. Thank you Dr. Mike! I requested this a while back and am so happy you’re doing this now
The fact he's taking such an enormous shotgun intervention approach to longevity it's near impossible to dissect whether anything specific is helpful. Excellent point. We've all seen people who age ridiculously well who aren't spending millions on testing, measurements, & expensive protocols. Lots fewer variables to study what is working with those people.
to be fair it does seem like he's mostly doing it for himself so at least he's honest about it

One thing he promotes a lot that wasn't covered here (and what Bryan considers to the be the most important thing to longevity), is quality sleep. A good way to think about resistance training from a longevity standpoint is that relative strength is more important than absolute strength. Being super strong relative to your bodyweight at a BMI of 24 is much better than having more absolute strength but at a BMI of 28.
You need a floor on this though. You need mass to carry you through. So shouldn't shy away from lean gains if your body is giving them.

@@schlachsahne884 Interesting. You could have turned this into an intelligent and respectful debate, but you chose the internet troll route. Not the path I would have taken, but to each their own I suppose...
I would suggest re-reading my comment. I said it might be feasible. In other words, I made no claims to certainty because that would be impossible. However, I have worked in the IT industry for 20 years as a software developer, and have seen the incredible amounts of advancements that AI has seen in literally just a couple years. So I have a bit better of a perspective of where things are going than the average Joe. It occurs to me that you are one of those people that desperately fight against AI regardless of how it is used. So any time anyone even utters those two letters in even the slightest positive way, you have this unsuppressible urge to start shit with them. Hate to break it to you, AI isn't going anywhere, it's going to be better than you at everything you do, and there is nothing you can do to stop it. You can either embrace it and benefit from it, or be left behind.
Your choice, I honestly don't care what you do. Also, I care little for your opinion in general since you have already established yourself as an internet troll. So feel free to type up your response (I'm sure it's going to be wonderfully eloquent, and filled with as much insight as your first response), but I will not be reading it. So just know ahead of time your efforts will be wasted. Not because of a fear of conflict or anything like that (I have no issues with that), but it's because you chose to be dick with zero prior provocation. So next time, be respectful, and you might actually get somewhere.

So, eat well and go outside whenever you can.
Oh no, Mom was right
@@reid3031 yeah eat right, stay active, that’s general health advice, which keeps people “young”, unfortunately during “moms” day there were cigarettes, even secondhand, which would age people fast anyway
The other thing I'd add is sleep until you're well rested. This varies from 6-10 hours depending on the person so figure out what works best for you. We live in a world where sleep is deprioritized and substituted with stimulants. A toxic approach for health and longevity.
@@dune7824 true yeah get at least 7 hours, go easy with the caffeine and its timing
Imagine the irony of falling in the bathroom and dying from a head concussion 😂😂😂😅
at least strength and balance training decreases your fall risk. Being mentally fit makes mistakes less likely and increased bone mass reduce break risk.
@@tristanwegner incredible response and completely agree. But I don't think lifting weights increases bone mass in the skull. I might be mistaken. My pont is that life happens and sometimes no matter how much you try to stop time you may end up leaving early for other reasons. I lift weights myself with the same purpose, but I'm not immune to falls either, because weight lifting is not a miracle and aging is a reality.
@@Catwithlipstick Yeah. Life can always happen. I train my neck muscles inspired by martial artists and race car drivers, and the skull is bearing more weight there, so I assume this will strengthen it over time.
