I've been saying he deserved an emmy or golden globe for his role in the Boys. It's hard to imagine anyone else in the role he is goood.
I love Karl Urban, always been a fan of him, and totally loved his portrayal of Billy Butcher, my man showying his acting chops here for real, but I gotta agree with you, Starr's Homelander is terrifying! And if you see him on interviews and background stuff, he's such a regular and cool guy, it's amazing!

Not really to be honest. People always say this great actor and everything but I see nothing special about his acting. Maybe it's just me but there are more actors better than him. He's not really the highlights of this show just saying. He is just the same as every actor and actress in this show.

Yes, the show has generally excellent acting, but saying it's the same as all the other actors and actresses is just dishonest bullshit.
Homelander doesn’t care about people, so of course he wouldn’t remember Butcher easily.
Also remembering the face of someone you met for 30 seconds, 8 years ago, or saw at distance in a crowd like, 5 weeks before wouldn't exactly be easy for anybody.
That scene with Deep's gills is so disgusting. It really freaks everyone out in a real primal way.

The scene with The Deep was a classic rape scene.
This series plays with our emotions in so many situations, it's really fantastic.
It’s completely possible that Becca didn’t say anything in order to protect Billy. It’s not unheard of for girls to stay silent because they’re afraid the men in their lives will do something like kill their rapist in order to get justice. Then she feels an added guilt of Billy ending up in prison for her sake, or worse getting killed by Homelander, which would probably be a guarantee if Billy went right up to him
I think it's way too early to say what Homelander did to Butcher's wife wasn't rape. That footage of her leaving the room, she looked pretty rattled. As for disappearing, she was pregnant with a super baby and there was literally only one place to go for help. Unfortunately that one place was an evil organization.
And at the same time her looking disheveled isn't proof that it was actually rape.
she just wanted to sleep with a superhero. She did and gets what she deserved.. feel sorry for butcher. He dedicate his whole life to find his cheater wife.

This was the episode where we finally saw the real A-Train. His addiction has completely swallowed him up. The only thing that matters to him now is his next shot of Compound V. At this stage, everything bad that happens is everyone else's fault. Huey did nothing to Popclaw, but A-Train has to blame him, he can't take responsibility for his actions. Robin was an accident, like that makes it better.
I mean yes he is responsible for her death but it was still an accident. Drunk drivers kill by accident but are jailed because they chose to drink.

Not sure it’s the organ so much as seeing someone insert their hand into someone’s torso
i think it's a fun take on the whole "don't push your fingers into someone else's orifices, especially if they protest". In a way Deep is at the receiving end of sexual abuse now. I thought it was quite clever in an arc where Deep tries to be a better person than he has been.
@the baron - Yeah, I'm convinced his redemption will eventually lead to him legitimately apologizing to Starlight and possibly sacrificing himself to save her or the Boys from Homelander or Stormfront or some other uber-powerful supe.

I feel like the whole build up of the Deep could turn him on the bright side in season 2. Like some kind of catarsis - purification throu suffering. I mean what he did with Starlight is horribly wrong. But at least his motives about animals were good
I think so too. I think the plan is for him to have a sort of Jamie Lannister arc - start off doing something horrible and then spend the rest of the series looking for redemption.
I think that Homelander and A-Train not recognising Billy and Hughie is an indication of how little regard the Supes have for “Mud-People”; that we’re not worth remembering.
Anthony Starr is such a treasure int an already amazing show filled with amazing casts and crews. Respect to this show, man

The Seven were down to 5 and there was a lot of evidence to suggest Starlight was involved.
I would definitely say he's in the wrong. He's not wrong, but saying he's not IN THE wrong implies that he's in the right.
He’s the leader of a group that’s recently lost over 25% of their members and he’s interrogating a suspect that has a lot of evidence suggesting she’s involved.
In this specific incident saying Homelander is “not exactly in the wrong” is appropriate.
That old man Homelander visits looks like an elderly Hank Schrader.

I say Homelander is the worst. A-Train accidentally ran over Robin and felt he had to kill his girlfriend or Homelander would have killed them both. The Deep is a jerk but he's not as bad as Homelander, who pretty much has no respect for human life, and even kills for fun (the sniper).

I agree, Hughie and Annie are on a parallel arc, where they are new to their respective groups and on the opposite end, Butcher and Homelander also have their parallel arc that intersects with each other.
What I don't understand is when Homelander learned that the Seven was being targeted, why didn't he look into the past to find clues. Clearly there was some recent conflict with the Seven and the Boys when it was headed up by Mallory, even before the show started that led to Lamplighter and Mallory stepping away.

This is a story that reiterates the concept that "the cycle continues". The Deep would have gone through everything that Starlight did. It's what they do. He forced non-consensual contact and then received the same again in return during this episode. Homelander started out as a child and then was turned into a monster. None of it is "right".

The show will not tell you definitively whether or not the encounter between Homelander and Becca was consensual or not, and it’s fiercely debated online. That said, I think video from this episode gives all the evidence we need to figure it out. If you have sex at work in someone’s office, you’re going to generally put yourself back together and do your best to make it look like you DIDN’T just have sex at work before you leave the room. On the other hand, if you’re in a sexual encounter against your will, the natural reaction is to get the hell out of there. When Becca comes out of that office, she’s disoriented and disheveled - she’s holding her jacket and shoes in her hand, her hair is messed up, and her shirt is untucked and only held closed by 2 buttons that are clearly in the wrong button holes. That strongly implies to me that she threw on enough clothing to cover herself and got out of there as quickly as she possibly could. I honestly don’t understand how people can see “consensual encounter” in that scene.

Regarding Homelander... I’m sure that every serial killer has a sad backstory but they don’t get a pass for heinous acts. Understanding Homelander better doesn’t give him a pass for killing legions of people wantonly.

Homelander is wonderfully played by Anthony Starr. Starr's acting is what makes the character. Another show in which Anthony Starr is great in is Banshee. I would recommend Banshee as a future show to watch and review.
Don’t get me wrong, what The Deep did to Starlight and the other girls they implied he forced himself on is absolutely reprehensible. But I don’t see the scene about his gills in this episode being about him getting what’s coming to him but rather coming to understand just how fucked up what he did was. It honestly alarms me how few reactors I see willing to show even a little sympathy during that scene. No one deserves sexual assault and I say that as someone who’s been there before.

Well, based on exactly what your saying, it sounds like The Deep needed to have that happen to him in order to fully realize his mistakes. So, all-in-all, it WAS called for, and if you watch this scene and the scene with Starlight back to back, you can make a case that he is indeed getting what was coming to him.

No, I don't feel sorry for a serial rapist and a general douchebag for getting a small, incomparable sample of what he has put many women through. In fact, ha-frigging-ha. I still don't understand why they didn't kill A-Train when they had the opportunity, yet hughie killed translucent without remorse, even tough he had nothing to do with robin's death?
Maybe Hughie's thinking of what Mother's Milk told him a few eps ago: "That high you feel (from killing Translucent) is no different than the shit A-Train shoots up"
Translucent threatened to tell Homelander what they were doing. Hughie killed him mostly out of fear for his life, plus a little moment of rage at T's sadistic smugness. A-Train did kill Hughie's girlfriend, but Hughie still has empathy for a guy who's angry and hurt at the loss of the woman he loved ( I don't think he knows AT killed her.), and figures a compound fracture suffices to end the threat he represented. Just guessing here, though.
@@manuelodonnell1148 Hughie's main goal is to get revenge on A-Train, that's kinda contradicting the reason he joined The Boys, other than that, leaving A-Train alive would still serve as a threat for them..

I just realize that vogelbaum here said voughts job is protect its most profitable asset. And I guess homelander thought he was talking about him. But what he really meant was compound v which edgar then repeated in season 2. You catch so many things on the rewatch.
I'm surprised that Steven is beginning to sympathize with Homelander but not with the Deep. The Deep has fewer sins to atone for, and it seems like he's at least trying to do the right thing now.
Yeah but Homelander had a rough childhood and never really developed a conscience, so I guess he's cutting him some slack. The Deep seems to have tons of adoring fans, and yet Stillwell implied he'd done similar things to many girls other than Starlight.

What gets me is that the shocks keep coming even in the last episode. Depending how they follow the story we haven't seen nothing compared to where this is going to go. The greatest thing about the show is that there is so much changed from the comics we are all in for a shock.

I kinda see Homelander like Loki from Marvel. People forget Loki killed like 80 people at the start of Avengers and who knows how many more at the battle of New York. I wouldn't say so much both being evil or malicious, it's more like they just absolutely don't value the beings that they are hurting. Like killing a fly or stepping on an ant pile. When Loki said an ant has no quarrel with a boot he was showing how much he valued humanity, i feel like Homelander has the same opinion.

Remember nobody who was in that room has ever told Billy what happened. It came second had from Mallory. Who also doesn't know what happened in that room.
My guess is she suspects it was consensual, but showed Billy only footage that was inconclusive, betting that he would accept her interpretation. Billy likely accepted the rape story as he didn't believe she would cheat on him.
You guys should watch 'Banshee' at some point. Actor who plays Homelander plays main character in that show and he is as much amazing.

Good Reaction :^)... This series just builds and builds on the craziness... (Hughie or Kimeko should have finished off A-Train. Especially after the threats he made about killing Hughie's father like he did Robin. A-Train has done far worse things than Translucent ever did, as far as we know).

How you holding up Nikki? Pretty heavy episode here, every 5 min you seemed like you had a heart attack, this is probably the heaviest episode of the season, crazy one for sure!
Did anyone notice that during the meeting Homelander mentions Mesmer being dead before it actually happens in the episode? Was that just me or am I wrong?
Homelander said that The Boys blackmailed Mesmer (and Ezekiel), not that they killed him.

Man when billy killed mesmer it just shows that him and homelander are just bad guy vs. bad guy. Both are willing to throw there allies to the wolves as long as there objectives are met.

Their other show Preacher had many wtf moments throughout also...I feel like that one finally ended up being a trial run for how they want to present stories. They had to tame that one down it felt like compared to this looking back maybe because of the channel it was on. Even got dry here and there, but I think so far...they found their niche to a better degree with The Boys.
Just an FYI, Anthony Starr(Homelander) had this other pretty great show, Banshee.
