remember at the party Homelander wanted her to take over his social media accts.
it looked like Rebecca walked in for a business meeting. she had a briefcase like purse in her hand.

    • @HS-mn6jc

It says a LOT that the image of a woman walking out of a room shaken and her clothes disheveled has been used as a way to not portray rape but simply consensual sex that “got rough”. This stereotypical trope is so deeply ingrained that nobody wanted to even admit that maybe just maybe the rape was just that- rape. We normalize women being disheveled and handled so violently during sexual encounters and it only serves to make it less likely for the average person to believe someone’s account of rape. It’s disgusting.

I always thought the gill scene was The Deeps turning point in a way to realise how wrong what he did to some of those women was. In that scene he himself was sexually assaulted by that woman, by her persisting on pushing her fingers inside his gills after he said it hurt and told her to stop. After that he must’ve finally realised how those women he pressured into sexual acts must’ve felt.

    • @BryceLK
      @BryceLK 2 ปีที่แล้ว +60

I'm pretty sure this was the obvious intent of the scene, and it's why the woman went there with him in the first place. Everyone is pissed at the Deep right now for being a piece of (censored). People are throwing garbage at him at gas stations. The lady said she was "counting on" him not looking like everyone else. She was there to humiliate him and hurt him the way he has to so many women before. It's a taste of his own medicine.
That scene makes my stomach hurt watching it because even though it's just his gills, it's obviously meant to be, essentially, a (censored) scene. It's so fucking gnarly, blehh, lol.

@@BryceLK I never really got the sense she was doing it as some sort of revenge, she just seemed like a freak taking advantage of him being at his lowest point. @C.o.R (Lex) I mean... maybe both? But I'm definitely more confident in how I read the situation, and while you may be right, I'm not too quick to trust just any random stranger to pick up those types of subtleties in a scene like that. I searched to see if any articles happened to be written about that scene and I got quite a few results that are in line with what I got from it.
We may be both saying the same thing and just not speaking clearly. Here are some excerpts from an article that I pulled from slashfilm.
*The Boys Scene That Made Chace Crawford Very Uncomfortable*
_Nauseating as his scene with Starlight may be, this isn't even the scene that Crawford found the most difficult to film. After Starlight reveals the assault to the public, The Deep is banished to Sandusky, Ohio where a fan sexually assaults him using ... his gills._
_In season 1, episode 7, "Self Preservation Society," he invites a woman home for sex, only for her to force her fingers into his gills._
_The scene is also uncomfortable to watch - although it does offer a poignant reversal of his earlier assault on Starlight._

Doesn't mean it didn't still have the same impact on Deep.

I think y'all are undersestimating Homelander as someone who doesn't leave loose ends. If he really did rape her, why's he let her go even though there was a possibility she would squeal. He let an airplane full of people die just so no one would be a witness, but he didn't dispose of a woman he raped? Someone who also has is also in charge of the company' social media relations? She didn't disappear right after the video Mallory showed Butcher. Mallory said that video was a few days after the Christmas party. The video Butcher has of Becca in the park is dated January 24th. Also to me one of the signs that it was rape is she left the room looking disheveled (blouse untucked, hair messy, one shoe off). Had it been consensual sex I would imagine she would fix herself up and leave the room looking the same way she did when she went in.

You have to be going really, _really,_ far out of your way to play devil's advocate to say that the show leaves it up in the air, though.
The entire series is a montage of, "Remember how you thought Homelander was the scariest villain you've seen before? Check this shit out!" Every Butcher flashback shows him and Becca in love and happy; again, that's William "Billy" Butcher, the guy who just bashed Mesmer's head through a public bathroom sink, in a suit, goofing off at a Christmas party, laying around and cuddling in bed, kind of all the shit that you'd never see Butcher do, I guess, and with evidence of her leaving a room bewildered and still getting dressed after hours in a room with him and then abruptly disappearing from the face of the Earth after sitting alone on a bench, again, for hours, there's an equal possibility in your mind of "Well, bitches be like that sometimes, man."
I just don't see it. Now, they fully _could have_ written it so that it was just a casual affair and I would have accepted it, but by all accounts I feel like the storytelling was screaming a single answer, lol. I don't know, maybe they expected too much out of us as viewers? Maybe they figured, "Law & Order SVU has been on TV for about 75 years now, right? Yeah, they'll get it."

@@BryceLK lol you’re so wrong it’s hilarious, he is literally the most powerful man in the world doesn’t matter how shitty he is people are going to want him no matter “how happy” their current life is🤡. I never thought that homelander wasnt shitty and he wouldn’t rape someone LMAO. The fact that she disappeares without telling butch a thing is a huge contributor to thinking she may have cheated she left on her own free will, ofc that’s explained later on but this is season 1 we’re talking about where we have absolutely 0 of these answers. The show purposefully makes the viewer question this and constantly put the idea their even tho butcher never straight out says it and to be quite honest for a show that’s supposed to be a realistic depiction of how super heroes could be corrupt it makes perfect sense for this to happen as absolute power corrupts and when someone is offered that there’s no telling whatd they’d do. It has nothing to do with her being a “bitch” as you put it either im sure plenty of men out their would cheat on their other with Wonder Woman if it meant they got to have her kid. Also the fact that she stayed in the room for a long time doesn’t prove anything she doesn’t seem distraught or in a hurry or really anything wrong with her after leaving which puts the question into your head is she in shock and that’s why she’s acting impartial or did she enjoy this? Not to mention how other commenters pointed out all this info came from Mallory a very untrustworthy source. And to be clear I was never on team “SHE WAS DEFINITELY JUST CHEATING” as you seem to think I’m saying the show put the mystery there and doubt creeps up into your mind as it did for butcher, but the fact that he never lets that doubt affect him or change his resolve is what really proves their love not some silly flashbacks of them having sex.
Absolutely nothing you said made it obvious that she was raped i think you’re just upset that you missed a major plot point and that you’re extremely naive and trusting but it’s okay that’s not necessarily a bad thing, the writers did a excellent job with respecting their viewers intelligence in season 1 and have a great way of telling a story through characters without them having to obviously state how they feel or what they’re thinking. Clearly the respect wasn’t appreciated by everyone however.

You know... acquaintance rape is a real thing where women feel like they have to have sex with someone they know based on pressure, or fear of harm, and other reasons. She could have felt any number of things, and he may have even threatened her career, and so she just may have gone along with it to get out of the room. Also, not all rape is 5 minutes long. Otherwise a great video reaction and analysis.

    • @mhan00

She was in the room for three hours. My guess is that Homelander didn’t violently rape her, he simply wouldn’t let her leave until she agreed to have sex with him and even threw in some less than subtle hints about what he’d do to her husband if she didn’t comply. There’s literally nothing she can do to leave and nothing anyone can do to stop Homelander from hurting her husband. There’s no way it was consensual, because if she’s cheating on her husband, she isn’t rushing out of the room disheveled and half dressed. I think She spent 2 hours and 55 minutes trying to leave while HL wouldn’t let her go and finally gave in because she had zero alternative options, HL raped her and shoved her out the door and in his head “It wasn’t rare because she said yes”.
Second season pretty much 100 percent confirmed it was rape.

      @Souledex 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

It was most of the conversation on such a weird tangent that got them all thinking wrong about everything. Like she looked distraught/disheveled leaving the room w/ Homelander and he jumped to she realized she’s pregnant- billy knew she was acting weird and didn’t say anything so we know like 5 different ways it wasn’t the same day but even without that its the weirdest assumption to make.
Like christ she had sex in an office at her new job - thats reason enough right there, idk if anyone at the desk has had good sex much less in public or with a celebrity/boss but you need a second to get dressed or collect your mind kinda no matter what.
But 1. It was with the celebrity who’s account she managed, effectively her boss, potentially for substantial enrichment or promotion in the future,
      2. She did that knowing her husband already has severe dislike for Supe’s so at face value its unreconcilable if discovered and she has no one to talk to about that I’m assuming under any contracting or fear of legal action. Beyond that imagine the base level of tension in any relationship with someone generally concerned with their masculinity or integrity and value would be to question or fear the relationship or change in perspective from working with literal incarnate, virtuous gods- much less actually sleeping with them. Her day job was literally creating the Homelander America loved, what the fuck do you think that could do to your perception of them, their identity, their value/importance and your capacity to be in any sense intimate with them could pretty quickly supersede marriage.
      3. She wanted to do it and was always into superheroes but was either ashamed of it or any of like 10 reasons those interests would never have gotten through to Billy’s pillarized ideal of his wife - and that opinion changed or sustained at any part of that experience or hadn’t accounted for the reality of it may hit you fast after.
      4. Maybe she seems a little physically disheveled because she had sex with fucking superman for probably like 2 hours- jesus fucking christ how does that never enter the equation (I get the visual language clearly doesn’t focus on that and he’s shown to be a bit of a sub at least for Stillwater).
      5. Beyond like every situation in an office where your boss or person who’s happiness determines your continued employment inherently being an unbalanced power dynamic creating issues for consent, when that person is the most insanely powerful and respected person on the planet who can’t smile with his damn eyes and manipulates for effect, tension or pressure in every damn scene it’s entirely possible that a new accounts exec being favored for her work would turn up flirtation expecting it to go nowhere as the casual thing to do in response to personal admiration or attention. We’ve seen this fucker get freaky damn fast so the second he even minorly reciprocates that attention (like fucking superheroes are terrified of including The Deep who’s traumatized by some forms of abuse experienced here) well she like Stillwater and Maeve do the entire show think it is better to keep things as low stakes and/or positive as possible, even unto boning- this is also a common feeling in a world without superheroes that jackholes on the internet dismiss missing 20 years of social context around later reported rape allegations.
I’m not even sure it’s possible to consent to having sex with Homelander, his actual relationship with his map of the world is through coercion, lies, manipulation because well lots of reasons; childhood, mom stuff, but also he shed any semblance of his identity that could be linked to a normal human life, developed sociopathic tendencies either as a mechanism or from inherent precursors to relate to people through empathy he never had a chance or environment to develop. But mostly because in every circumstance his profound divine shadow of celebrity, money, morality, and his clear willingness to turn many situations into a reminder of his completely crazy power level, or just his powers’ presence no matter how they come up it could disqualify consent. The only person on the table would have been Maeve and its made very clear through nearly every scene about her that her life is not her design, that she can’t even talk about that, she has to pretend not to care so Homelander won’t fuck with stuff to retain social capital in his eyes for when he goes crazy, and she had to cut her life partner out of her life due to that relationship. If he wants anything out of that relationship or is at risk of having any kind of mildly angry outburst every person, place, or thing she’s even known or loved are potential causalties.
He doesn’t have the Fortress of Solitude to ensure Lois Lane doesn’t snap on half, nor any grounding or context for how normal people would relate to one another- every conversation he’s ever had except with the Doctor who was ashamed of him was people pleading with a god, they bargain, they lie, they idolize or extol the virtues of him- his punditry is regarded as divine despite the completely terrifying implications (go figure), and even the person who’s shown to control him in this season was Stillwater who bargains like a warlock. The god is a lonely broken child who never had a mother tho so its a petulant child making everyone all the more cautious to avoid casual contact and prefer to leave it to the “clergy” at Vought.
      6. Its clear that just like with Butcher and Hughie, Mallory was giving voice to a narrative that would drive him to rage and action, implying and establishing that all superheroes are immoral are the second domino on that list. From Mallory to Butcher to Hughie the need to lie, and spin becomes a key inherent skill to survive- every single person who meets Butcher remembers the experience as one of overextension, loss or being taken advantage or dragged into his problems. Like with everything else where’d he get that from? Definitely Mallory and like with Butcher it framed their whole initial interaction til he was in too deep to question motives or narratives.
Wow christ saving this for future essays, tldr they were weird assumptions

If you haven't noticed, homelander is very possessive over his people. When translucent is missing Homelander was very focused and obsessed, Starlight, he showed a little possessiveness but not much as she's new, Queen Mave he's super possessive as well as the woman who is his mother/lover. He's possessive over people like a young child who doesn't want to share. I think the reason they wouldn't tell him that they killed her is that Homelander would be pissed. He thinks he is practically god. It's okay for him to deliver punish over people and would never let someone else punish his own property, especially if he had some feelings towards Butcher's wife which is likely as he got teary eyes hearing her fate..

Well with Becca and homelander it depends because the rape victim can be assaulted for like 5 minutes or be held against their will for days or weeks or years at a time it depends on the assailant so when you have somebody like Superman you're not going to get away until he wants you to get away so to say like 3 hours means she wasn't raped is really stupid to say

I am so confused as to why in the world Aaron seems dead set against Homelander having raped Becca. Shane's doubts make sense cause he's Shane, I guess, but everyone in the comments here are talking about Shane's thought process being sus, but from what I'm seeing Aaron is the one pushing the issue. The statement "when she walked in it was consensual" made my soul cringe. Make it stop.

A-Train killed popclaw because Homelander told him too. He blames Hugie because if Hughie hadn't gotten involved Popclaw wouldn't have to die. So it wasn't really narcissism but blame shifting cause he can't admit that he was too afraid of Homelander and killed his own girlfriend.
