Soldiers can be very dense when it comes to geopolitics. That's because they are trained - brainwashed, really - to follow orders. Having an enemy is necessary for soldiers, because otherwise - what is the purpose of a soldier? That's without including another, different group - the arselickers, who have pursued their distasteful and unhealthy activity to climb the slippery ladder of promotion. I suspect that Milley and Petraeus fall into this latter group. So, listening to senior British and American military people talking rubbish about Ukraine and similar geopolitical matters is often worse than unhelpful - it can be completely misleading.
It's quite plain that neither side can break through but Ukraine are not yet at the height of their powers from the initial year and a half of Nato support and we are now at what might turn out to be the low point of western doubt. If Trump is not elected or if the Germans get frightened of a rampant Russia there might well be a swing back in favour of Ukraine. This is as much as Russia are going to get-they would be taking a serious risk by not recognising it.
I am not sure if these guys are experts or fools. Why Russia agree cease fire, considering the fact that Russia is in ascendency and support for Ukraine is dwindling in the west.

When I wrote in October 2023 "It's Over. Russia won", I was abused left, right and centre. But here we are in early January, 2024, and "It's Over. Russia won" seems now to have become the ground bass of discussion. The question has moved on to : how can Zelensky ie. Washington DC get into real negotiations without looking really stupid, and in Biden's case, getting blown away in the November Presidential Election? Needs must. There are some inventive people in DC and in Whitehall, and doubtless a magic formula will be found. Watch this space. I think by April or before, the magic formula will be in the test tube.
JFK knew the Vietnam war could not be won at a time when only 100 Americans and a correspondingly small number of Vietnamese had died. However, it would have spoiled his election chances if he had stopped the war. Talk about being the last man to die for a mistake, in this case in was the last 78,000.
The combined economies of the 30 countries that make up NATO was $40.1 trillion in 2020, while Russia’s GDP was $1.7 trillion in the same year. This means that the combined economies of the NATO countries are 23.5 times larger than Russia’s economy. We've got this folks, easily.
Is this a serious comment? If so, you're experiencing a common misconception; those numbers don't translate directly to military production. They don't even translate to the potential for military production. Otherwise, we could say, " Taiwan? Haha! $850 billion GDP? It's OK, we got this, UK is sitting pretty with 3 trillion... " well, why then don't we have world leading semiconductor fabrication and design plants? Why do we require Taiwanese semiconductors for the smartphones and the other computing devices we use? Can't we just whip one up? Well, maybe, it might take 30 years of heavy government investment with very little payoff in anything but the long-term...and no guarantees because by then Taiwan would be 30 years down the line itself...which is why China is importing so much chip manufacturing equipment itself, to sprint to where Taiwan was 10 years ago (and that would still be a great result for the PRC). Therefore, no, it doesn't just translate from €$¥₩ or £ directly into bullets and bombs, it takes time and lots of work to get there. Therein lies another big problem; for a war requiring lots of items, low-margin items a defence company doesn't want to waste time and effort making thanks to such poor returns; those things like bullets, standard HE artillery shells, gun barrels, and so on, high-volume low-margin items...it doesn't want to do that. Rather, it wants to concentrate on other areas, making high-tech, AI powered doodads which sound great on paper and cost a fortune whether they work or not, locking the UK government into procurement for decades to come...the defence industry really has no interest in expanding production of items which it normally makes in modest numbers for domestic consumption only. For them, the idea of moving valuable human resources and expensive capital into "low-tech" products is insane, and they would also ask what happens when this war ends, perhaps without much warning? Would it be left to mothball all that effort and redeploy or even make redundant all the additional staff they would have to take on? The only way it could happen is with the entire effort underwritten by the government, for decades, where we might end up with huge stockpiles of now-useless shells, bullets, bombs, etc. Realistically, the above is unfeasible, as we've seen in the USA, where increases in munitions production have been commensurate with the situation I've outlined above... nobody wants billions in extra capacity on-hand for someone else's war. It isn't profitable, and it distracts from national defence priorities, strategies. The lukewarm response by the defence industry in the USA should give the politicians much pause; they talk a lot but their partners who do the actual work are saying, "nope". More simply put, its a lot easier to be enthusiastic about building bombs and bullets when it's your kids, your siblings who might be the ones suffering should these things not be available. This is what we're seeing in Russia, where people have loved ones fighting. In such situations, thoughts of costs, of deficit spending and borrowing go by the wayside until the conflict is won. We would see the same if we were at war, as would the USA, but we aren't, thank God. Until then, defence is private industry and all the promises of $$$$$$ don't mean anything to them when policy could do a 180 with any new government, or if events on the ground overtake us. Seriously, why do you think production is only increasing very modestly?
@@mitchyoung93 You *can* win wars however, with advanced productive market economies, however. Kinda like how the US helped win WW2 with its huge industrial capacity. General media outlets face up to 15 years in prison if they write articles critical of the authorities. It is clear that the invasion of Ukraine was a fatal blunder. The reputation of the Russian military as a formidable force has been shattered, exposing its tactical inferiority to smaller but highly motivated opponents. In less than a month, the Russians lost a great deal of equipment and suffered thousands of casualties. The casualties in two weeks approach the total number of soldiers the U.S. has lost in Iraq since the 2003 invasion.Financially, the Russian economy is far below the size of the Soviet Union's. The question is how long the war can continue. And even if peace is achieved What if Ukraine moves to rejoin NATO? Will Putin invade again?

I suspect that Milley and Petraeus fall into this latter group. So, listening to senior British and American military people talking rubbish about Ukraine and similar geopolitical matters is often worse than unhelpful - it can be completely misleading.
Daddy Biden won't let him.
Are you forgetting that Putin uses 300K of his forces in former Ukraine, while 900K are ready to strike ?
It's quite plain that neither side can break through but Ukraine are not yet at the height of their powers from the initial year and a half of Nato support and we are now at what might turn out to be the low point of western doubt. If Trump is not elected or if the Germans get frightened of a rampant Russia there might well be a swing back in favour of Ukraine. This is as much as Russia are going to get-they would be taking a serious risk by not recognising it.
Yes people forget a lot of salient points about this war while focusing on trivia, sideshows, and of course, the big Z himself
I am not sure if these guys are experts or fools. Why Russia agree cease fire, considering the fact that Russia is in ascendency and support for Ukraine is dwindling in the west.
it's okay chandra. Many people can't tell the difference. Look at putin! He is convinced he is surrounded by experts!
If these are experts on Russia, then I am an Arab prince. There will be no negotiations, much less a ceasefire, only complete surrender of Ukraine! Russia is slowly but surely advancing along the entire front line and a ceasefire is not in the interests of the Russian Federation. Why, to give Ukrainians time to rest and replenish soldiers and weapons? These experts are just clowns, just like the President of Ukraine!
Putin ain't offering peace.
because no one would believe him. Ruzzia royally f*ed itself when it started ripping up treaties it signed just years earlier.
He will never back down they are both deeply in Love
One broke into the others house and when told to go home did not and had hissy fit ,
Only if his handlers allow it.
They also pay for such expert assessment in the West. I thought we were losing because of traditional family values in the country 😂😂😂
You guys know nothing 😂😂😂😂😂😂
@@jamesgornall5731 If overblown rhetoric and windy comments could win wars, you would absolutely sweep the field.
@@guydreamr thanks, did you at least read it?
You can't win wars with Marvel comics movies and inflated real estate
@@mitchyoung93 You *can* win wars however, with advanced productive market economies, however. Kinda like how the US helped win WW2 with its huge industrial capacity. "In his memoirs, Khrushchev described how Stalin stressed the value of Lend-Lease aid: “He stated bluntly that if the United States had not helped us, we would not have won the war” 2." That's from ShareAmerica, "America sent gear to the USSR to help win World War II."
these commentators are living in cloudcuckoo land.
These 2 men are Clueless about what's going on on the ground of the behalf of Russia.Ukraine is on their 5th Army 😂
delete this propaganda -- nobody believes it
I wonder who is more delusional from those 2...
NO!
But what about the elephant in the room with whom we have a special relationship?
Who is proposing a ceasefire / peace?
There are a lot of Putin's thinking experts. They are sitting in UK , but know all what Putin thinking. I think we need care about UK economy shrinking. Economy based on the service, can't be a brilliant.
Sorry guys, but a policy that leads your country down the toilet, so to speak, just isn't really very pragmatic. Neither is a policy that gives concessions to a murderous bully.
Lady your political maturity is wanting. I'm out of here.
All they would have to do is give Ukrain what they asked for and this war would be won in Six months. You guys a idiots for not saying so.
This thing aught to be called the f🤬🤬k Ukraine show.
These men confuse desires with reality... These interviews are truly embarrassing. 😅
He doesn't get to choose. Russia does now

Demilitarization? So that Ukraine will be easy prey if Russia invades again later? Any sovereign country has the right to have an army for defense.
No. Get off Ukrainian land now. No ceasefires.
Please be sensible.
No deal nó surrender.

(The Economist, March 2022)
The birth of Stalin II, the dictator of the 21st century, who uses lies and violence to an unprecedented degree and is obsessed with paranoia.
Putin has shut down almost all independent media outlets and has had anti-war protesters arrested by the thousands.
And even if peace is achieved
What if Ukraine moves to rejoin NATO? Will Putin invade again?
Russias strategy is always the same, be it empire, ussr or now.
It is, move the border west and it becomes shorter.
Nothing to do with NATO encroachment right?
The Global American Empire has been surrounding Russia for decades. They/ NeoCons/ Victoria Nuland should never ever of backed the coup against the then ELECTED government of Ukraine 9 bloody years ago that started this nightmare off. Ukraine is just another NeoCon disaster like Syria Libya Iraq and Afghanistan.
Wrong. Putin does not want nor need corrupt west empire that is destroying itself as we speak.
Free advice, shut your telly and enjoy the days you have left.
Arrogant intellectual conversation over too much wine. People who claim to have an inside track, have access to an intellectual bubble. If Britain ran a poll when Germany was bombing London whilst America attempted a neutral position, the poll would not be a 100%. Let's win WW2. Many mums and dads would view life at a very parochial level. Churchill, on the other hand, hand had the national interest in mind and purpose. In short, this video is about Putin's talking points. It is therefor propaganda and sheet that needs to be flushed.
You forget that Hitler would have conquered Britain if he had stayed out of Russia.
Zelinsky has no other options. He is fighting one battle and losing.
The most important:
- the Ukraine is winning
- president Zelenskyy is taking his sweet time before deigning to offer putin an off-ramp
- russia has lost some eight times more soldiers than the Ukraine has because of its tactic of using human wave attacks
what have u been smoking ? it must be something illegal

Would Israel accept peace with Hamas?
Um terrorists? Are you nuts?
Would Hamas accept a peace deal with Israel?

No.
Israel has continuously expanded into Palestinian territories and is doing so now. 500,000 illegal settlers already.
Israel isn't going to stop, why should they, they are America's friend and America hates Muslims.
