Whelen 4004 test 6/1/09 @noon

this is 1 of the 3 whelens in Desoto MO. this particular siren has rotor problems a little rusted i guess. this siren is used for severe weather and for fires(used to)this siren sounds a 1 minute 30 second alert for its test and a 3 minutes attack for tornados. Please coment and rate!!!

Actually you're right, the voice truly is louder than the actual siren tone. Whelens increase their amplifier output from the normal 400W per amp for tones to 500W per amp when they do voice. The only bad thing about doing that is that even though the amplifiers themselves are capable of that much power, the drivers are not, which is why voice-capable sirens blow drivers faster than tone-only ones do.
