Testing a very vintage Edwards system!

  • Hands down one of the best opportunities i have ever had this year. Thank you so much ‪@timreinhardt4594‬ for making this happen, i enjoyed every second of this extremely loud system. Also peep my problem with the door and the bell staying on LOL, that made for some very comical conversation afterwards! There also used to be an old vibratone horn tied in on the outside of this building, however it is long since removed. Location of this building will remain private for reasons.
    This system is compromised of:
    (Unkown model) Edwards panel
    270-SPOs (later model)
    Edwards 380 Fire Horns
    (Unknown make or model) Bell
    Do not pull fire alarms unless there is a real emergency, all of my tests/Videos are done in a controlled environment with all proper permissions.

    Of course, old fire alarms like those are louder than the ones of today (even the SpectrAlert Advance, TrueAlert and Wheelock AS). The Edwards shield logo seen on the panel and pulls suggest that system's from the 1960s. (I've seen a few Edwards systems from the 1950s and 1960s with such Adaptahorns.)

    Reminds me of my childhood when I went to a school in the mid 1990's with these "fire horns". They always scared the crap out of me to the point where I wanted to get out of the building ASAP!

      Definitely! My middle school had similar horns to these up until about halfway through my 7th grade year (2019 or so), they were inevitably replaced with newer speaker strobes. Almost acquired it but unfortunately that fell through

    It makes me so happy to see these systems in use. I love Edwards, specifically anything before 2000 lol. The panels they made in the 60s were something else, and definitely made to last forever.
    I'm trying my best to preserve any I can. Unfortunately my area doesn't believe in preservation and these types of systems are super rare.

      @michiganfirealarmsmore4684  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yeah, unfortunately the area I personally live in doesn’t believe in it anymore. All the old panels I grew up with have been replaced ages ago, maybe if anything a couple older simplex panels but thats practically it.

    I’m so glad you got this opportunity!! for some reason my school district is obsessed with keeping their older devices, especially at my high school (there was a disconnected 9806 in the gym) and it has been through many generations, sad to see how they don’t manufacture them anymore. Although it is understandable considering how people have certain hearing and visual disabilities which is why we have horn/strobes to this day. But this video absolutely slaps!! you earned a subscriber.

      @@ZakWolf I have a rare Wheelock Type 1 and it seems to be deafening compared to this newer Faraday horn/strobe which I just got that might be even quieter than the similar 6180 based on what the TH-cam user that uploaded a video of it said, but I’m still not sure how these compare to a maxed out SpectrAlert or MT; I’ll do a demonstration once my third alarm for this AC-powered fire-watch system for my residential live-music space arrives in the mail.

    My school was built in 1975 and consisted of 3 adaptahorns. 2 flush mount and 1 regular horn. in 1990 they went under construction. The 2 flush mounts where removed. The entire school was replaced with Federal signal 450D's + VALS. the regular Adaptahorn was wired into the new system. What happened to the other Adaptahorns, In that remodeling they gutted the entire place out and made more class rooms. And as of 2023 neither of them are their and the addition with that had the old adaptahorn is being rebuilt because of a fire. And that was because some dumbass cut a wire.
