  • A young Jobson began his creative life as a musical upstart, the front man in art-punk band The Skids. Their biggest hit, the 1979 single 'Into the Valley' is still a perennial favourite today. He moved on to become a much recorded spoken word artist, a successful poet and performer. He has since become more or less all things creative. He's a respected writer, an award-winning film director, a TV presenter, a producer and an all-round media professional. His work as a film director is perhaps his most recent triumph. In 2003, Jobson directed the adaptation of his own book -- 16 Years of Alcohol. The film went on to win the Best Director award at the British Independent Film Awards. Jobson has not been seduced by the lure of big-budget films though. He is committed to the art of storytelling, and finds that doing this under certain financial constraints actually improves the creative process -- cutting away the unnecessary expense of CGI and flamboyant sets, this renders a tight, lean cinematic experience. He is a passionate, ruthless and above all honest filmmaker, and his energy and discipline in all his creative endeavours make him a continued force to be reckoned with.

Richard Jobson is a very eloquent, engaging and insightful person, whose influence I am still very open to - even all these years after The Skids! I have a huge amount of time and respect for him and am so pleased to see that he is sharing, educating and mentoring others through events like this.

Kin 'ell! First time I ever saw this fella was with the Skids supporting the Stranglers in '78 at Great Yarmouth. He jumped off stage and waded into a gang of skins who'd just turned up and were making trouble ; )

No Bad records also issued two albums by Scottish traditional folk band Heratage. My dad played in the band so I've got both, despite never really having an interest in that kind of music, it was punk rock I liked lol.

Wonderful story thus far, my father being from Glasgow is a typical role male, militar and construction as well as myself, however when I was done with ny time in the Army I continued on with my art and am making my way, a man must blaze his own path.

I like the guy. A bit of a chancer and a risk taker, but being in a one-hit band for a bit and then making a few cheapo films doesn't make you anything special. Spent most of his young life pissed as a fart and fannying around the West End. Only a success compared to being shot at on the Falls Road.

One hit band???...I take it you're having a laugh? As for Richard 'spending most of his young life pissed as a fart'...I think you'll find, due to his epilepsy, that he didn't drink much, if at all. Apart from that I thought your comment was well thought out and factually correct...NOT.

You can smell the envy from your post.
Jobbo has lived a life people like you can only ever dream about.
Bow your head to the greatness.
      Your life is a failure.
