I was the animation director for this special. [Robert Alvarez] I really liked the show and I think we did a great job making this special. Sure there will always be those who don't like what we did with the characters. Just remember everything in life is point of view. What appeals to one person may not appeal to someone else. I'm happy that I had the opportunity to direct the animation for this show. I'm also happy that I have a copy of the show so it will never die.
ya think there’s any chance it ever gets released?
i collect Flintstones
@@android131c I don't think that the show will ever get released for sale. If it were a series then maybe. Because it was a one off and I think Warner's does not like it, the special will most likely never get released or broadcast again.
For the record, I liked 'On The Rocks'. It definitely captured the look, and tone of the show's early years. It has it's flaws, but it wasn't half bad. I will say that whatever 'raunchiness' it might have had, it doesn't even come close to what John K. would put out nowadays.
@@Launchpad05 Id say this was alot better than those Jetsons and Yogi shorts he did
I understand it's a life (joke intended)
But as i grew up with reruns of the original show was a weird special for me seeing fred being like peter griffin
All of the voice actors and actresses were great. They came very close to the originals. Jeff Bergman and Tress McNeil were on point 💯 Grey Delisle was closer to Bea Benedret then all the other Betty replacements. Kevin Michael Richards gave us the first season Barney effect. Seen this one and I've gave it a thumbs up.
Kevin Michael Richardson 's Barney sounded like Mel Blanc 's early version of the character. I liked it!
Really?
I never really caught on to that until you brought it up right now.
I really like Jeff Bergman's Fred Flintstone. He sounded like Alan Reed, the original voice actor.
Yes, I could tell by the different art style. Chris Savino, who would later create the Nickelodeon animated series (Nicktoon/cartoon), The Loud House, co-directed this along with David Smith.
I never heard of David Smith, since he was one of those Unknown People to me in my opinion
@@thefantasticretroreviewer3941 he was regarded as one of the comedy oriented board artists on Powerpuff Girls. I also remember one of the later Dexter's Lab episodes he directed with those two robots.
@@walpoleandworcester Two Robots?
@@thefantasticretroreviewer3941 oh yeah it was "Lab on the Run" from Season 4 of the show. Had to look it up since I hadn't seen it in a long while. Mar-10, Fred and Tiny were the robots I was thinking of. They were also in that Back to the Lab music video CN aired all the time back then.
It's also reminscient of a lot of the bumpers CN had at the time with HB characters, designed by Craig Kellman as well. That look really stands out here.
I love those ID bumpers that Craig Kellman made for Cartoon Network.
Thank you for bringing back the Funstastic World of Hanna-Barbera theme song felt like Sunday Morning.
Personally, I liked "On The Rocks". It reminded me of the early seasons of the show. More aimed at adults.
I remember seeing a good amount of the special, especially the stop motion sequence. The Flintstones on The Rocks should have gotten a dvd release. Im glad that we got some high-quality clips of the special.
They’d say it’s too short for a stand alone release, but I say they could easily include those Dino shorts from the What A Cartoon Show as bonus features
OMG I loved this special so much, I wish they would release it on digital home media. The story, the animaiton, the fantastic voice cast... If this was a pilot for a new show.... I'd have watched the hell out of this show. I quote the hell out of this, I always walk into restaurants and say, "Wilma, I'm just not fat enough!!!"
"Bedrock" got canceled before it could make it into production.
They dodged a rock bullet on that one.
I'll Say This Right Now Hanna Barbera IP's are more appealing to me than anything from Filmation they were basically animation rivals before DIC and Saban Entertainment In the 1990's
I’ll be releasing the revised Yogis First Christmas review soon
If I ever donated to the patreon, My picks would be 'Yogi's Treasure Hunt', and 'Top Cat & The Beverly Hills Cats'.
Every time someone points out Real Adventures of Jonny Quest was a failure, I hear that Marge Simpson "It's true, but he shouldn't SAY it" line in my head, just cuz I'm one of the maybe dozen or so people who liked it. And thanks to Adult Swim shows (one in particular), you basically can't ever do a revival of any variation of JQ without people wishing it was about Jonny's descent into drug addiction or some garbage.
While 'Flintstones On The Rock' was made at Cartoon Network Studios, they would have H-B legacy characters appear in various Cartoon Network shows once in A while. Fred, for example, appeared in 'Billy & Mandy', and on 'Johnny Bravo's 4th season.
Funny enough, it was rumored that most Cartoon Network Characters would appear in Jellystone later on and I'm not joking.
@@thefantasticretroreviewer3941 The 'SGC2C' version of Brak (Voiced by Andy Merrill) was on on 'Jellystone' with Zorak, and Moltar disguised as The Galaxy Trio.
Heyyy, I recognize that voice for Mr. Slate! That's Professor Xavier from Pryde of the X-Men, otherwise known as Doctor Doom and Magneto from the worst (and, therefore, best) Fantastic Four cartoon, The New Fantastic Four.
i’d spend a lot to get a copy of this movie! i liked it
the voice cast was pretty good too
I wonder if we will get a version of this special without the CN screenbug burned in
I remember seeing this back in 2001 and I liked it cause it was unique
I think a bit like ABCs the Muppets they overcorrected a bit too much.
I liked it as something different. Like a warped Flintstones world.
Great video! What's the old Cartoon Cartoons Friday fan site you mentioned at 5:52 ?
I don't mind if this is the New & Improved version of the OG Flintstones on The Rocks Review you did awhile back.
Not A bad revision of an old, yet, already good review. The special itself did A great job capturing the look, and feel of the show's early seasons. Fred's grumpiness here can be A bit much, and not all the jokes hit the landing, but when they do land, they land very well.
@@Launchpad05 I still hope this gets a Home Media release very soon.
@@thefantasticretroreviewer3941 It could possibly air on MeTV Toons as part of Flintstone Family Sundays!
@@nicholasmalone5943 That is a great idea.
It shouldn't be hard.
Well my opinion is that Flintstones on the Rocks was trying to follow original series roots as it was trying to be aimed for a mature audience.
I never saw this as a kid back then!
Bedrock been dropped as a project
This special is a cult classic in my opinion.
I know that I enjoyed it when it saw it. I wished I had recorded it back then but didn't unless I did and lost the tape.
how come i never heard of this....?
Anyone else remember when Wilma let her hair down
The Flintstones on the rocks has been never released on Blu-ray and DVD and VHS and also streaming service boomerang and Max
I didn't get a chance to see it due to the 9/11 situation and i was still a little toddler back then
I used to have this recorded on tape but I don't know what happened to it. I thought it was a good homage to the pre-Pebbles and Bam Bam Flintstones, and of course the stop-motion scene was pretty cool. Late 90s/early 2000s were definitely a weird time for animation, the John K specials are cringe as hell 🤮
Warner Bros will purchase Hanna-Barbera back from 1997.
been waiting years for the supposed new Elizabeth Banks Bedrock series. anybody think it’s ever coming out?
Yabba Dabba Dinosaurs ain’t bad.
I have my doubts on Elizabeth Banks' attachment to this after the whole 'Charlie's Angels' disaster.
"aaamiiiiigo"
Yabba-Dabba-Doo
They should’ve gotten Henry Corden, Frank Welker and BJ Ward to voice Fred, Barney and Betty again.
You can tell the writers took a lot of influence from the simpsons and family guy for the special
I grew up watching hannah barbera reruns on boomerang ( i was born in the 90's) when i was 13 i saw the special on cartoon network and i was in shock, it wasn't like the original show (at the time i wasn't aware the original flintstones show was the first adult cartoon i always though was a kid show and i used to watch it when i was 4) with all the adult jokes, the sex scenes, ans worst of all fred being an asshole (when to rewatch early episodes as an adult fred really is an asshole but wasn't the top).
And the art style wasn't of my like.
In general a weird flintstone piece of media
Okay that last joke was so unnecessary...
