"So when she smacked it's butt, did he feel it?" as Calvin and Eric proceed to nod at each other in approval. This is entertainment ladies and gentlemen.
In the extended edition, during the sex scene, Jake and Netiri actually do attach their nerve-hair. It makes someone bonded literally in body and soul. As to Aaron asking what if their nerve-hair gets cut, it's considered a major insult to the Navi. It's a major cluster of nerves, and to cut it would be extremely painful, and prevents any connection to a mate or mount. And they can't access the memory trees. It's the ultimate shame to put on a Navi. Two things about T'sutay A) his actor plays Mother's Milk from The Boys B) also in the extended edition, he lives from his fall, but he was badly hurt, and asks Jake to kill him, thereby giving him command of the clan.
If you look closely in the trailer for Avatar 2, the Na'vi Avatars for Quaritch and Wainfleet do not have long hair, therefore no ability to merge with the ecosystem of Pandora. Possibly a change in the Human/Na'vi Avatar bodies seen as a weakness or flaw. Military not seeing it as worth it. They don't have time to learn how to merge with the ecosystems so remove the ability altogether.
I saw it in 3D and it definitely enhanced the experience back in the day. Without the 3D it's still a solid fun movie, but the 3D added so much wonder to it that it was kinda overwhelming ^^
I saw it in full IMAX 3D and it was an incredible experience. Cameron used the 3D to add depth instead of make things shoot out of the screen at viewers. I kept seeing this dust floating in front of me while watching so I waved it away... until I realized it was in the movie.
@@Timmayytoo Exactly this! None of that cheap 3D that a lot of movies used back in the day (for example, Resident Evil Afterlife... horrid 3D for a horrid movie) Actual depth just like VR would be, so you can see things in their proper 3D space. It's amazing.
Actual biologists, anthropologists, and speculative biology artists were brought onto the project to create the world of Pandora! I love how much thought was put into the setting to make it as alien but as believable as possible!
@@jm329 two reasons. The 1st is that James Cameron didn't want his potential romantic partner aliens to be too unlike humans. Having an alien be anthropomorphic is the best way to bring in an audience that won't cringe at the thought of an alien and a human falling in love. The 2nd is speculative as we don't have the exact concept art, but do you remember the monkey like aliens with 2 arms that split into 4 at the elbow? The theory is that the Navi are descended from a common ancestor of those monkeys, meaning a prehistoric species of monkey evolved in a way to fuse its 4 arms together into 2.
I watched it 4 times but never came to watch it in a cinema. The music in this movie is so underrated, I was just as fascinated by it as I was by the visuals. Especially the "passive epic" parts, where the massive tree gets introduced, etc. feel so amazing.
My stance on this movie & it's upcoming sequels has always been that if they can keep the incredible world building and visuals of the first movie while improving the story and making it more interesting I'll absolutely be there for all 4 sequels
I’m with you. The first movie was SO well made and had lots of emotional resonance. Though if I’m honest the fact our real world race has to have final battle with violence to top off the ‘entertainment’ saddened me.
That's the kicker: in the Extended Collector's Edition, there *was* an improved story. Problem is that James Cameron likes to make 4-hour movies and shrink them down to 2 1/2 hours... and in Avatar's case, he took out all the story-improving scenes and kept the tech demo scenes. That's why it lost the Oscar.
The extended edition gives SO much more backstory regarding Jake's brother to help you understand why the RDA approached Jake and why the passengers must be asleep the entire voyage to Pandora. There is also a book called "Avatar: A Confidential Report on the Biological and Social History of Pandora (James Cameron's Avatar)" written by Maria Wilhelm and Dirk Mathison, released in conjunction with the film in theaters, that explains the history of Earth at the point this film takes place, all the technology (including what unobtanium is used for. One use is in the propulsion systems of the ships that transport humans between Earth and Pandora), all the flora and fauna of Pandora, and the weapons and equipment used by the RDA. I highly recommend either that book or consulting the James Cameron's Avatar wiki for background info.
Yup...backstory which changes precisely nothing because the story is still completely fucking stupid. The dialogue is still complete shit, and the acting is still total trash (except for most of Weaver's scenes...she's great).
@@RenaissanceK The trip from Earth to Pandora takes 6 years (no FTL travel, though as close to superlumanal as the technology can provide) and no ship would be able to carry that amount of supplies for the hundreds of passengers aboard. The six years also allowed for the Avatar bodies to grow to 'adulthood' on the trip out. The six year voyage also explains why it takes the humans over 12 years to return to Pandora in the sequel following their expulsion at the end of the first film.
@@peterkoester7358 no i know they have to be in cryo and the supply stuff makes perfect sense, i just meant that i didn’t remember the extended edition explaining it. i thought they just mentioned the avatar’s matured on the flight but not why the passengers are also in cryo. obviously we can infer why that would be even with no explanation since like you said people would realize it’s too many supplies and people wouldn’t know what to do on a ship for 6 years, i just meant that they don’t really give an explanation, we kinda figure that out ourselves. i say this because you mention that the extended gives more backstory to this and to tom sully but i didn’t remember
Seeing this in cinemas for the first time, was one of the movie experiences I'll always remember. I was honestly stunned by it. Always gets shit on for it's similarity to other films, but it's very enjoyable and a joy to look at.
That said, for some reason it has one of the best sci fi spaceships we know. Especially in terms of realism. You see it for a small bit, but it's been designed with a lot of thought and love put in by someone who clearly knew their physics and a lot of people love it for that.
@@Tao_Tology and that happens very VERY often and yet you don't see it held against virtually any other movies except occasionally the MCU. It is one of the dumbest things to bitch about in the entire movie industry.
58:12 Sigourney Weaver's avatar is considered like a "gen 1" version from the avatar program or close to it, which means that hers is much more human in appearance than the others that you see in the film. Jake's almost fits right in with the Na'vi minus having an extra finger and toe, the eyebrow hair, and the queue being attached lower on the skull. Grace's eyes are smaller and her nose is much more human than cat-like.
the avatars look more like the humans because they combined the DNA to create them. That's why the avatars have human noses and 5 fingers and the na'vi have 4 fingers etc. i loved that detail so much
This movie is a lot of fun & I love the world they created with Pandora. Not incredible but definitely not the terrible movie so many claim it is. And yes, I know that it's "just Dances with Wolves/Pocahantos/Fern Gully in space" - I just don't really care. It's clearly inspired by those stories in the same way Joker was inspired by King of Comedy, Taxi Driver etc.
Plus, even if it's "just Dances with Wolves/Pocahantos/Fern Gully in space", why is that so bad ? As long as it's not just a copy and it makes an effort to have it's own identity, that's how art works. Everything has inspirations. Not everything has to be completely new and original.
@@AsylumSaint exactly people always forget the whole Religious aspect where the god is actually real and the planet pretty much as a whole is alive and connected the world is so amazing😍
*Holy fucking shit* my mind was just blown!! I always knew the actor who played Tsu'tey as Fenix from Fast and Furious 4! But I had noooo idea that the same guy played Mothers Milk! Now that I went back and looked at him, I can see it's him, but he changed a lot. Holy shit... Thank you so so much for that fun fact! Just made my night! 😁😁😁
Eric is kind of right about human endurance running, but it has nothing to do with us being bipedal over quadrupeds, it's because we have the ability to sweat, which keeps our body cool over long runs.
While seeing this in theaters in 3D was an exceptional experience, what's STILL most impressive about this movie to me is the technology that it used and how much that transformed all of the films that followed. The behind the scenes on this film is _mindblowing_ in how it helps you understand just how much this was unlike any movie that was made before. The performance capture and everything happened to get the takes that James Cameron wanted ...and THEN he went back through all of that captured material in a digital environment of the acting that he wanted and captured all of the camera shots _while basically walking through an empty warehouse with a digital tablet for months._ Pushing this technology is what made it more possible for films like the new Planet of the Apes series, and also helped in pushing more digital technology around performance capture in games, which then fed back in to how that was able to be used for The Volume in The Mandalorian. James Cameron's films are important and impressive, but they're also usually pushing a HUGE shift in the film industry at the same time, like the T-1000 did for computer effects.
Agreed! Seeing some of the games this technology has been applied to really gives some amazing results. I remember games being good, but love the cinema and world building in them, and just as an example - Halo 4, 5, the amount the characters come through from their mocap, and even being digitally recreated is amazing. I love the idea that actors can move into digital spaces with the expression and movement that makes them them. Its been awesome to see. Thinking about it, What was the film with Johnny Depp that was filmed live for reference purposes? Rango...? Same Idea, but the newer technology does it for me.
18:00 They aren't mammals because that refers to a specific lineage of animals here on Earth, they aren't from Earth and therefore can't be mammals, but they could still have similar traits through convergent evolution.
I loved this movie back in 2009. And I still absolutely love this movie. People who think this movie has not aged well or doesn't work now, y'all are weird.
@@theawesomeman9821 So many other stories from movies have already been told in different movies, books, video games ect. But Avatar is always a rip of.
@@yahikospain446 dude, stories repeat themselves in media all the time, it’s arguably impossible to do something totally original nowadays, but all the interesting worldbuilding and concepts they used for the movie are awesome, even id the plot is normal
The next avatar is set underwater, the actors had to learn to freedive and act while freediving. Also had to develope new filming techniques to film underwater the way they wanted to.
I saw this movie 11 times in theatres and immediately claimed it was my favorite movie of all time. My friend told me "if you watch it in a year, and it's still your favorite movie, then it isn't just because of the hype." 11 years later it's still my FAVORITE movie. Yeah it's an old concept, but they recreated it. The network was so original and beautiful. I will forever love this movie
Unobtanium is a mcguffin for scifi material that does things that we haven't found a way to do for real. In this case it's a room temperature superconductor. Currently the only way we can have superconductors is to cool conductive materials to near absolute zero. Once there the electrical resistance drops dramatically and as a side effect the power draw is a lot lower, thus generating less heat. Even with current cpu:s that aren't designed for it, you can get nearly twice the clock speed once superconductive and fraction of the power draw. There's some research into superconductive processors, but it's still rather early... Even still we already have 100GHz processors and theory suggests low THz should be possible. So yeah, hundred times faster cpu:s... No wonder it's so expensive
@@quaronncz464 if it heats enough that it stops being superconductor, it's going to fry the entire chip. But other than that it should behave like any metal you pass current through. Which should be neglible, I think.
Huh, that kind of makes sense as to why the ecosystem that developed with a room temperature super conductor present in the environment would develop stranger biological computers than simple brains on Earth. That or it's the other way around and the Unobtainium is created by the local life as a component of their bio-internet thing and the buried unobtainium is akin to fossil fuels. Fossil computing substrate? Actually that would fit almost perfectly with the films message thinking on it.
I remember taking my at the time 59 year old mom who was very skeptical of this movie to see it in IMAX 3D, she then tried to actually catch the tree seeds/spirt jellyfish because she couldn’t believe how lifelike they were.
Identical twins have the same DNA. They're created by mitosis, when an individual cell splits its own DNA and divides in two. Fun fact: if two pairs of identical twins, one male and one female, have kids with each other, those kids will be genetically both cousins and siblings.
@@dragon_playz2002 No, it absolutely has to be identical twins. Identical twins have identical DNA like I stated before. Regular siblings only share half of their DNA.
I saw this movie like 10 years ago and I don’t remember a thing besides enjoying it really much, seeing this was a refreshment and great to see people still liking this movie
I have fond memories of seeing this with my late grandmother in IMAX. It was her favorite movie she saw in theaters so it'll always hold a special place for me.
Gotta say I don’t think I could’ve sat through this movie with Aaron spewing out every hypothetical question that pops into his head lol would’ve driven me insane
My history teacher put this movie in class to make us connect with the things that happened to our people (I'm South American) but on a way that we all can pay attention and fully enjoy it cause at the end of the day we were 12 years olds so he couldn't put on a boring movie and expect us to pay attention lol, it was amaizing, we all were sobbing at the end 10/10
Simply: he just wanted to get that Vance-like Sensationalism out towards those who would be quick enough to B- like this franchise without question. 'I got it'.
I love the level of detail in this movie and how it's in the future, but the stuff isn't too far advanced like in other scifi-movies. When I first watched it, I haven't noticed the numerous constantly patroling defensive systems at the base's border. They also had the proper hand sign for putting on gas mask.
Best 3D cinematic experience I've ever witnessed, every element was so carefully considered and nothing became a blurry, difficult to track, nightmare. No other 3D Film I've seen has achieved the perfect depth rendering this one has. James Cameron is definitely a visionary. Looking forward to the sequels! 💙💙💙💙💙
Something I always think about when I hear about the "humans being aliens" concept is the fact that in this movie, humans found a way to "disguise" themselves as natives, which is something we usually have to fear in fiction
Cameron's intent was to make his own Star Wars so he always envisioned it as a series of films. I'm very interested in see what the response to the sequels will be given how long it's taken. Nostalgia appeal usually hits after the second decade so this will be an odd middle ground timing wise.
The issue is that Avatar never really hit it off in that way. When the original Star Wars came out, it blew everyone's minds and people couldn't stop talking about it. People stopped talking about Avatar quite quickly, unless they were mentioning the effects. The series will definitely gain a cult following that'll support it, and obviously the films are incredibly financially successful, but they'll never have the impact that Star Wars did. The first film is the highest grossing movie of all time (unless you adjust for inflation, in which case it's Gone With The Wind) but a lot of the overall reception was that it was good but not amazing. In fact, I rarely ever hear anyone mention the film at all, and haven't for years. But I think James will be fine with that since the films are a passion project for him
I just remember seeing this in IMAX 3D in the theater and being completely blown away. So much so that I had to see it in the theaters again. I Rarely ever see a movie in the theater more than once. I don't care how many people crap on this movie, I still love it.
Aaron's totally right. He definitely asked if it was THE Lorax or the Lorax BOOK. Maybe the fact that he asked that question at all is silly but idk how else I would've interpreted that question after it was asked.
I saw it in theater, in IMAX 3-D four times. It was all encompassing. You were literally inside the environment. You felt the wind, the moisture, the drops in your stomach. It was an absolute experience. And it was all four times I saw it. At 50 years old, I still remember it vividly. The detail never failed to impress. That being said, I am 100% for the Dances with Wolves telling of the tale.
This was the last movie I ever saw in theaters with my grandmother before she passed away. For my birthday that year she got it for me on DVD. I cry everytime I watch it.
Imagine how many background easter-eggs could have been put in this whole movie. Hell, for all we knew, they could've put The Last Airbender straight up flying through a scene and I would never know it.
Avatar characters: * explain anything * Eric or Aaron: * talks over explanation * This is one of those times where Aaron asking questions anytime someone breathes is getting annoying.
This time it really stood out. All I could think of was "Damn, get Aaron a glass of water. With all that squawking he needs to hydrate to avoid dry mouth!"
I love this movie! It still looks sooo good after so many years of it being released. I'm looking forward to the rest of the movies and your possible reactions to them!

I really love this movie, especially the aesthetics of the mech and the ships, if anything you could fit this in the Halo universe if you remove the Na'Vi.
no, some current era of UNSC/UEG technology is better than those walking sticks levels of the RDA Humankind version over there. (but fairly the pandoran world has only faced a 'scouting party' kind of army. Not the Full back over there in the still tenuous state of Human Space outside of pandora, so who knows). but there are things that the UNSC could learn from some of the feats of the RDA Humanity which would be interesting for the UNSC/UEG Humanity to have it with. some advanced feat that they still haven't done yet. or have done but not perfectly used safely, and commonly across their once 800+ living territorial space. same for the RDA Humanity, which....also having and doing their own after getting the feats from the UNSC/UEG Humanity's so far achieved current technological tier which said-former Humanity version would improve upon way better than what they still limitedly have in their verse's Year 2100s. (especially Space travel. cutting down that Years long travel from their version of Sol to that aliens' Alpha Centauri tremendously).
I always thought it would fit very well in the ALIEN universe, like some predecessors of the Colonial Marines. Oh well, it's both James Cameron after all... :D
so a Primitive fanatical gaiaform kidnapping Human beings on that moon and then overtime Centuries later Physical forms turned into what they are now and as well with the brainwa.... yes....how Disturbing.

Something about “It’s like an adult killing children” and “Imagine a giant just killing you” both got me real good. I’ve been shedding tears of mirth, repeating those bits for several minutes
you guys just dont understand how blessed we are with james cameron.. his creations, his story telling, characters, textures, details, its insane... if people laugh or make fun of these movies and dont see how insanely good and gorgeous they are then im so sad for humanity.
I like their reaction to the water, cause it just reminds me of another channel who did a visual artists react and professional visual artists were looking at the water like 'THATS GOTTA BE REAL'.
The visual and artistic design is what makes this movie timeless. Not to mention the CG will probably still look good another decade from now. It’s not really a movie I’ll go out of my way to watch on its own but if I see it on I can’t help but be sucked into that awesome world
What a coincidence. I just bought the Blu-Ray Collectors Edition (already had the Movie, but on DVD) cause i ... felt like it, and wanted to rewatch it. Don't know how it will be when i watch it again, but back then in 2010 i LOVED Avatar! It's the only movie to this day i watched in theatre FOUR TIMES. Something about it was so addicting. The world and the story James Cameron created and the immersion through the 3D was just breathtaking. If you guys somehow have the option, please rewatch in in 3D cause you won't believe how much it adds to the experience.
People bag this movie nowadays but it was huge when it came out, its reception was bigger than any other movie I remember. Everyone was talking about it. The experience of watching this in 3D was absolutely amazing, it's still one of the best 3D experiences of any movie that has come out since. The movie was so big it generated a group of people who were so obsessed with the world of Pandora that they were termed Avatards. Some people experienced post movie depression with the realisation that the fictional world of Pandora was intangible and could never be experienced in reality. The whole 3DTV fad was born from this movie. I can't really overstate how big this movie was to people who were too young to remember it or to those who simply never got a chance to see it or just ignored all the hype.
Colonel Miles Quaritch: You're not in Kansas anymore. You're on Pandora, ladies and gentlemen. Respect that fact every second of every day. If there is a Hell, you might want to go there for some R & R, after a tour on Pandora. Man was a legend, fought till the end!!!!
Awsome film, never understood when some people crap on it, probably in my top 10 films ever, awsome acting, amazing CGI, emotional story. Can’t wait for number 2!
I took my mom to see this in 3D IMAX. It was amazing. The plant life and environment were so beautiful. It was the only theater experience mom ever talked about out of all the movies we had seen together. She died on the day you guys posted this video. 💔
This has to be my favorite theatrical experience. I saw it in normal 3D and IMAX 3D when it came out. The normal 3D was already amazing but IMAX took it to another level. I've been waiting for the sequels ever since, can't believe it took them 13 years.
not exactly true Eric: the reason humans are the best animal in endurance is because we have almost no hair. It allows us to sweat over our whole body, while most mamals can only sweat through their tongue. So they have to stop often to pant (i think pant is the correct word in english, but i'm not sure, not my first language :P )
To Aaron's point about thinking they knew about Jake and Grace not being native Na'vi, I think Tsu'tey at that point was reminding the people that they were humans pretending to be them because everyone had accepted them as part of their clan/tribe
Eric: "Stands With Fist." Aaron: "Wat?" 😂🤣 I wish I saw this in the theater. I didn't realize how huge in scale it was. I'm Native American-full-blooded Navajo to be exact, and my parents watched it at home and they were blown away. They were very much into it from start to end. They've never seen anything like it before. I can't wait to watch the next one! Also, great reaction, by the way. You guys are delightful.
Avatar blues was a real thing. Back then I was a projectionist at an IMAX theater that played Avatar in IMAX 3D and I can tell you we saw groups of people who came back day after day to wrap themselves in the world of Avatar just so they could feel enveloped in that beautiful world. Our crews got to know them. They would tell us straight up they "needed" the movie to feel right. That the movie (oddly enough kind of a war movie) gave them a feeling of peace. Disney was not wrong to build the world of Avatar (complete with the floating mountains) for their Animal Kingdom park in FL. They smartly made their Pandora post-war and made it purely a celebration of the alien nature depicted in the films. It is truly one of the most mesmerizing things you can experience at Disney World. The "land" is almost hypnotic in its natural beauty. The artificial exotic alien plants mingle perfectly with crazy real plant life Disney brought in to complete the tone of the place. And yes in Disney's version you get to ride a Banshee and have that breathtaking experience too. Highly recommend.
I saw this in theaters in full 3D, and the visuals were astounding in person. When they teased that story about the chosen one to ride the giant creature to unite the tribes, I thought it was being set up for a sequel, so I was astounded that they delivered that pay off in the same film.
Avatar is victim to a phenomenon that affects all American pop culture and something I truly despise about fandoms. There is a tipping point where all things uber-popular will someday become cool to criticize and tear apart. It literally happens to everything that becomes a huge hit. Pop stars, movies, celebrities, TV shows... And in my humble opinion that is what happened to Avatar. For people to call it a terrible movie or that they hated it is absolutely a lie. You cannot have a movie become the biggest box office hit of all time with people hating it. It just does not happen. If Avatar was bad or poorly received it would have flopped in theaters. It did quite the opposite. But it did become so popular that it became fashionable to hate on it. Oh, it's just Ferngully with blue aliens. It's Dances with Wolves in space. Blah blah blah. Any writer will tell you there is a very limited amount of story constructs and we have all been watching rehashed versions of earlier works for decades and decades. To try to knock down what James Cameron accomplished with Avatar is criminal in my opinion. Sure we have seen this plot a dozen times before, but were we entertained? Were we transported to a stunning new world? Did Cameron introduce a whole new way to create motion pictures to deliver this incredible movie? Did Avatar's production team give us a fully fleshed-out alien world, unlike anything we have ever seen before? You cannot say this is a bad movie... you just can't. To do so is to just show ignorance of what a giant leap forward this film was on so many levels.
I'd say the story is pretty boring, but other than that yes it's pretty entertaining. I used to watch this so much when it came out, it was a movie I fell asleep to when I was younger. I also played the video game adaptation which was pretty neat in my opinion
I’ve noticed this happen over the years and I think you are right that that’s what happened to avatar. For whatever reason when something gets mega popular people just can’t help but to hate on it. I feel like that’s what happened with the walking dead as well. Sure there were some seasons that weren’t as great as others but IMO it’s never been like a absolutely horrible show even at its worst. Walking dead just like avatar was loved at first but then when it reached its peak around season 5 or 6 everyone started hating on it and still hate on it till this day. I feel like there’s a chunk of the “fan base” that no joke the only reason they’ve kept up with the show is to hate on it any chance they get
I saw this film in IMAX 3D when it first came out. The scene that still stands out in my mind is when Jake is first taken to the top of Hometree and looks down. I had to seriously grip my armrests for fear I was going to fall! And flying on the Mountain Banshee for the first time required concentration not to get motion sickness!
Watched this in 3d but was really pissed off with a damn fly that was buzzing around my face. Kept swatting at but it avoided me eventually got annoyed so much that I took of the glasses and it vanished. I felt like such a twit. The fly was on the screen🤣🤣🤣
Loved the reaction, the guy on the very right was hilarious. Also, the "braid" is called a queue (not sure I spelled it right). It's basically an extension of the Na'vi's nervous system. If cut off, it will cause excrusiating pain for the Na'vi (or Avatar) in question. I don't think it grows back either.
I really resent the “it’s a ripoff of Dances with Wolves” crowd. So only one film can be made about colonization and genocide? This film is so precious to me. One of my grandfathers, John Watts, was a Cherokee war chief, with a white father and Cherokee mother. He led one of the largest forces of natives, from different indigenous nations, against colonizers who were raiding and ruining indigenous settlements. He fought when many of the Cherokee had already decided to go West. When the decision was finally made to end the resistance, he stayed behind. If all of the eastern nations had worked together from the beginning, this could have been a very different nation. I have to drive by land once owned by his cousin ( Chief Doublehead, so named because he adopted white culture and literally sold the land that had belonged to his people) almost every day on my way to work. It’s a polo club now. The leader of the Navi, Neyteri’s father, was played by Wes Studi, a Cherokee. I know some of the movie is cringe at times, but it’s still one of my favorites.
Avatar reaction... Um... what? Oh... First time Aaron reaction. Watching you guys watch this I kinda want to watch it again. I haven't seen it in a while. I remember seeing it in 3D and when the Col. dude got shot with the arrows and he turned toward the camera, those things were sticking in your face! Cameron makes great entertaining movies.

Really? 3d absolutely made no difference for me. I actually think I enjoyed it less in 3d.
@@sethgibson5148 Yes, really, otherwise I wouldn't have commented it
:I
I saw it in full IMAX 3D and it was an incredible experience. Cameron used the 3D to add depth instead of make things shoot out of the screen at viewers. I kept seeing this dust floating in front of me while watching so I waved it away... until I realized it was in the movie.
@@Timmayytoo Exactly this! None of that cheap 3D that a lot of movies used back in the day (for example, Resident Evil Afterlife... horrid 3D for a horrid movie)
Actual depth just like VR would be, so you can see things in their proper 3D space. It's amazing.
Probably the only movie I regret not seeing in 3D.
Actual biologists, anthropologists, and speculative biology artists were brought onto the project to create the world of Pandora! I love how much thought was put into the setting to make it as alien but as believable as possible!
The question I have is why do the Navi only have two arms.
@@freedominart11 So the human Aliens evolved from Monkey aliens. Wow I wonder how they came up with such original world building...
I was obsessed with this movie when it came out. I saw it multiple times in 3D. The music was AMAZING! Can’t wait for the sequels!
Same. I probably saw it 5 times in the theater.
I saw it 3 times, wished it was more. It's an okay movie on a TV screen, but absolutely magical in 3D in a theatre.
I watched it 4 times but never came to watch it in a cinema. The music in this movie is so underrated, I was just as fascinated by it as I was by the visuals. Especially the "passive epic" parts, where the massive tree gets introduced, etc. feel so amazing.
Yeah but without James Horner, we'll have to see how well the music is produced and composed in the sequels.
@@twangric402 I agree. Whoever does the music will have massive shoes to fill!
Hmm a sequel. All that 3D sounds perfect for a VR game. I hope they do something like that after the second.
@@HowlingWolf518 lost the oscar?
I come from the future, the sequel DEFINITELY LIVED UP TO THE HYPE!
The book is awesome, it contains a lot of concept art as illustration and it's so detailed in information as if it was real.
i don’t remember the extended edition explaining why they have to be in cryo for the trip?

Man, that's a lot of joy
Which is so dumb. Every movie can sound like another movie if you strip it down to it's plot with nothing else

Eric is kind of right about human endurance running, but it has nothing to do with us being bipedal over quadrupeds, it's because we have the ability to sweat, which keeps our body cool over long runs.
It’s both. Being Bipedal means we are much more efficient in our energy usage and therefore have an advantage in endurance-based running.
Our diaphragm also isn’t compressed when running
Also also, humans can carry food while moving and don't need to stop to eat/drink.

The performance capture and everything happened to get the takes that James Cameron wanted ...and THEN he went back through all of that captured material in a digital environment of the acting that he wanted and captured all of the camera shots _while basically walking through an empty warehouse with a digital tablet for months._
Pushing this technology is what made it more possible for films like the new Planet of the Apes series, and also helped in pushing more digital technology around performance capture in games, which then fed back in to how that was able to be used for The Volume in The Mandalorian.

I know nothing about electrical currents, etc. but would the unobtanium eventually break or wether out if it's a room temperature conductor?
Unobtainium was first named on screen in the movie The Core.
There is a real life example, a pair of twins married another pair of twins and each couple's child is practically a clone of the other.
Alabama: write that down WRITE THAT DOWN
It doesn't have to be twins that have kids with each other. It just has to be siblings, and then their kids would be both siblings and cousins.
@@dragon_playz2002 No, it absolutely has to be identical twins. Identical twins have identical DNA like I stated before. Regular siblings only share half of their DNA.

When I tell y’all I love this movie, I LOVE this movie. I’m excited for the sequels whenever they decide to come out.
Something I always think about when I hear about the "humans being aliens" concept is the fact that in this movie, humans found a way to "disguise" themselves as natives, which is something we usually have to fear in fiction
Avatar is still a movie that gives me goosebumps every 5 seconds. I really wish pandora were a real place. Incredible world building.
Cameron's intent was to make his own Star Wars so he always envisioned it as a series of films. I'm very interested in see what the response to the sequels will be given how long it's taken. Nostalgia appeal usually hits after the second decade so this will be an odd middle ground timing wise.
Cameron is the master of sequels so hopefully that's a good sign.
they even had to wait with the sequels because the technology wasnt there yet, they are gonna be so expensive lol

I love how the crew always finds a way to make a Lost reference 🤦🏻♂️😂
I saw this in theaters in full 3D, and the visuals were astounding in person.
When they teased that story about the chosen one to ride the giant creature to unite the tribes, I thought it was being set up for a sequel, so I was astounded that they delivered that pay off in the same film.

I don’t remember a fly, so I’m confused. Amused, but confused. 😆
I know some of the movie is cringe at times, but it’s still one of my favorites.
i freakin love this movie. i remember being 19 watching him run in the avatar body and just weeping lol
the guy with the scar whos in command would have been a good cable in my opinion
This was my favorite movie when I was 9-10. One of my fondest memories in the theater and I will always love it no matter what people say.
Once he's in the Navi body you forget that it's all CGI except the humans.
i can't deal with Aaron's dumb comment's
that scene where neytiri saves jakes human body is my favorite
I don't care what people say, this is one of my favourite movies of all time.
I was 8 years old when it released, it was my Star Wars
I also have good memories of this movie, since it's one of the only Sci-Fi movies my mom enjoys as well (Along with Star Trek IV)
same here! i was 11 but still
I mean Star Wars was my Star Wars even growing up in the 2000s. Avatar is its own great thing where I'm concerned.
