  • Kirsty MacColl (1959-2000) was the daughter of Ewan MacColl and a great artist in her own right . She died tragically in a boating accident whilst saving the life of one of her sons. No copyright infringement intended. All shared from You Tube with thanks. R.I.P. Kirsty

May she rest in peace 23 years on tomorrow on my fiancé's 68th birthday. Sleep tight Kirsty MacColl. Remembered forever. Gone but never forgotten, loved and remembered forever.

She was great - what a voice! The last time I saw her perform was at the Ian Dury tribute concert at the O2 Academy in June 2000. She did a great cover of Billericay Dickie and she smashed it! Six months later she was dead. Taken far too soon and died a hero. R.I.P. Kirsty. 🥺❤

This music is so alive, the knowledge that Ms. MacColl has been gone 23 years is a fresh shock of awful sadness.

I only recently became aware of Kirsty's music and story. I am amazed by both. I don't normally share spiritual beliefs and thoughts such as those that follow, but felt that it is appropriate here. I believe in heaven, and I am sure Kirsty is there... She saved her son... That is love and nobility beyond compare... God bless those who live with her memory and music, especially her family... We may all enjoy her music... We are the lucky ones...

One of the best stories about the incredibly talented Kirsty McColl: in 1987 her then husband (Steve Lillywhite) was the producer for The Pogues who had been sitting on "Fairytale of New York" for two years because the balance between Shane McGowan's male part and the various people who tried the female part never worked the way they wanted.
Lillywhite suggested that he get Kirsty to record the female part just so Shane had a foil to get his vocals right. As soon as they heard the duet they went: that's it, that's what we were looking for and Shane re- recorded his vocals to fit with Kirsty's.
The rest, as they say, is history: now widely recognised as a truly great Christmas song.

If any artist in history should have a 'do over' .....
