The question is who's gonna say what should I'll be doing the remaining days of the test. It was like watching the highlights of the match. ICC should implement some kind of rule to slow down these type of matches, like taking more than 9 wickets in a day should be called off as stumps.
When India collapse in Australia it was fine but now it's an issue really 😂😂😂 straight balls getting wickets.....it was red soil wicket with pink ball what u except....... It bounce man...... With pace......skids on...
Australia made runs because Indian pace bowlers are no where in a league with Australian Pacers , mention one Indian pacer marking 150 kmph with consistent line and length, same here the England spinners are not in a league with Indian spinners, when you can have bat Vs bat test match, why can't we have ball Vs ball test match

When England were bowled out, everyone started criticising the pitch rather than appreciating the bowlers' technique and skill. When England bowled out India, every English Commentator was like ' Root used his skills' and then when England were bowled out again, everyone was after the pitch's ass again. @@petruccifanboi naah. He's a very good player of spin and also is relatively much more proactive than the rest. Being proactive definitely helped his case on this surface.
Yeah, it was like a perfect storm with the pitch and the pink ball. This pitch was bad, but I have a feeling that it would have seen better scores than Chennai's on a full day-red ball combo. Makes me also wonder what tests do the ICC conduct on new balls before they are commissioned. Do they have certain measures of - I don't know - friction through the air or off a standardized pitch that need to be met other than the obvious ones like weight and circumference?
I don't think they look at it that scientifically, which is part of the problem. Yeah, would be really interesting so see what the red ball did here, I think it still would have bounced odd and spun a lot, but the straight ball wouldn't have been kryptonite.
So the real culprit was Pink ball + Motera pitch. I felt the bounce on this pitch was more consistent and low (compared to the Chepauk pitch). Though the Hawkeye @6:37 tells a different story. Had this been a Red ball Test, I think we would have seen 5 more sessions. Whatever be the case, will BCCI prepare such a pitch with Lyon in opposition or against Bangladesh or Sri Lanka. Probably No. Day-Night Tests were to bring more viewership. Last two such Test matches in India have produced less than 5 days of play. This is bad advertisement of Pink ball Test.
This one is special. But usually it's because the balls aren't great, they have to have more grass to protect them and it can be hard to bat at twilight.
@Jarrod - Any pointers on the seam visibility? There were complaints about the seam not clearly visible on the pink ball. Could that also be a factor that the batsmen missed the line? PS: Was waiting for your podcast..Brilliant analysis!
Jarrod I was so much disappointed by this match. I can't watch two day "test" matches. This pitch didn't test batsmen's techniques, it was a dance floor for them. I didn't sleep my whole night after that match ended just by sheer disappointment.
@@Vi5hnujan my understanding, subject to correction, is that this is being used to show the variation of the pitch - Ashwin given the variety of deliveries he bowls may have had something to do with the trajectory.

@@JarrodKimberYT oh right, that seems like a lot of fun. btw is it ok you read a piece of work I did on test cricket? I just want you to see it as your a great writer and I did this for my GCSE
I would like to add one point here. Both teams do not know how the pink ball is going to behave on this ground before play. Indian bowlers found it hard to grip the ball at night during practice session. Best time to bat was last session as evidenced from match itself. Then as a matter of fact England batting did not even last not more than 1 session in their 2nd innings of this test. Had they batted under lights things could have panned different. Over all pink ball cricket in india is under study and lot of unknown. More matches with different pitch and grounds could be handy.
I mean, I did hear Laxman, Harbhajan and Akash Chopra talk about the ball and lacquer on the Hindi commentary. I think India needs to add a d/n game to each visiting team's itinerary, because even the last d/n test against Bangladesh in Kolkata was over within 3 days.
Coming down the pitch and using the pads still should work even with DRS thanks to the 3 meter rule . The umpire does not give it out as the batsman is way outside and the DRS is not effective to predict the ball to the required accuracy of the distance to the stump is more than 3 meters .
There was no uneven bounce. Its not like the pitch was breaking apart so much to where it was unplayable. It was just spinning. Why cant we have a spinning pitch? Like this guy said, it was more the pink ball skidding than anything.
There was uneven bounce. I tracked it all game. It was worse with the seamers (for all 17 balls they bowled), but there was definitely inconsistence bounce. We can have a spinning pitch. I mean we don't really have a choice, it spins in Asia.
Last pink ball test didn't last too long as well in Adelaide.. just coz wickets were taken by pace bowlers u can't mention it 🤔 it would be fair if u would compare it with other pink ball tests played..how many have last 4-5 days..
There were a lot of variables at play... New stadium, day night test, pink ball, pitch with little bit of green and a lot of brown powder... but if you look at the pattern, either you can not touch the ball or the ball will be fast low and straight, the moment batsmen start assuming everything to be low straight and fast were able to survive better... only exception was when Joe Root who beside what other say, found a perfect length which was full enough (not bouncing enough) and providing slight turn (not to miss the bat but take the edge of it) and caused the downfall of India I have seen Anil Kumble and Harbhajan Singh making a lift off for the balls from full length AND cracking the toe by throwing ball half way down the pitch, this was not the worst Indian pitch, not even in worse 10
Reminds of shane warne saying that he spun one ball vesiously to put doubts in the batsmen ' s mind and used to get wickets on flippers while they where playing for that spin..
If cricket balls were treated as cricketers, their meetings would probably be about how not to get hit by the bat, regardless of how you do that. I guess its more or less just batsmen ranting about piss poor performence on either side.
My guess is Rohit has slightly more time than other batsmen and the ball behaving quicker didn't affect him in the same way (But who knows). Pujara didnt play like Pujara.
spot on Jarrod... I think the world needs to rethink their stand on the god damn pink ball. The dynamics are completely different with the god forsaken pink one, They should introduce as a separate game, separate format, and if they market it well in India they don't have to worry about revenue :D
I didn't know I had to tell you. It is in the video, you have to pay some attention. The dates I looked at are from 11/4/18-11/4/20. Azam played three Tests in that period and averaged 200. stats.espncricinfo.com/ci/engine/stats/index.html?class=1;host=7;spanmax1=11+apr+2020;spanmin1=11+apr+2018;spanval1=span;template=results;type=batting
It was definitely a difficult pitch to bat on but imo in no way a 2 day pitch. It was just this perfect storm of the pink ball skidding more than the red ball and not getting softer as the red one does after 25 overs, the batsmen not having enough practice on turning tracks ( there was no Ranji Trophy20-21, so none of the Indian batsmen were prepared either). Most of the times the scoring areas on turning tracks are square of the wicket, where you cut and pull the short ball and sweep the length ball. Whereas in this game the scoring areas should have been extra cover to mid on to the balls pitched short. If you try to play square or your head falls off you will be trapped leg before as kept happening.

The pink ball theory got me intrigued, I think I understood why there was grass in all the pink ball test except for this one.
The balls are poor compared to red, so we either have to change when they are replaced or protect them with some grass.
@@JarrodKimberYT any suggestion on how to increase the longevity of the pink ball in terms of material. Etc etc. Cause the whole pink ball scenario got me thinking.

wonder how this will impact the pitch for wtc final if india reach it
Wait Australia are eyeing the vacant seat alongside the kiwis. For that, they will bribe the English to win the last game.
@watson returns Well for starters it's happening at Lords, so the English might create a grass top pitch and couple that with the Kiwi pace attack..,that is a dangerous proposition for India.
@@shwetankshekhar5 also kiwi batsmen are more equipped to play on grass top surface and swinging conditions. the only adjustment they have to make is the duke ball.
@watson returns because uk groundsmen now have an incentive to provide a seaming wicket given india provided a turning one
Add to it the history of both teams not having the greatest recent records in pink ball tests, and this being only the 4th pink ball test for England and 3rd for India.. It was not just the surface......
Funny, when Warney's bowling ended up with so many variations pitching the ball on the same spot, none of the world's commentators had any complaints. Warne was apparently one of the greatest spinners the world's ever seen then, right?
So would Dom Bess play in the last test?
Someone .... I don't know who but described it really well , he said that the pink balls lacquer made some ball skid straight ,some gripped and turned depending on the landing,it was a real funny situation to be in,part of me liked to see the ball turn and batsmen use their feet and use the depth of the crease another part of hated the fact that the game was over inside 2 days.As always very curious to know how you think and your opinion on the game.Peace.
Brilliant as usual👍👍
Now just imagine if Jadeja was playing 😂
Never mind that, imagine if England still had Michael Vaughan’s off spin to back up Joe Root!
It seems as though the big turning pitch for a pink ball test was a bad combination, that was my main takeaway.
You know I came across this video after 2 years and within that time there was an sa vs aus test match that also lasted just two days. I scrolled through the channel to find a video about that but failed to do so. Maybe my eyes failed to see or maybe there was none. Anyone up for that???
The question is who's gonna say what should I'll be doing the remaining days of the test. It was like watching the highlights of the match.
ICC should implement some kind of rule to slow down these type of matches, like taking more than 9 wickets in a day should be called off as stumps.
No. 15 wicket days are magic.
When India collapse in Australia it was fine but now it's an issue really 😂😂😂 straight balls getting wickets.....it was red soil wicket with pink ball what u except....... It bounce man...... With pace......skids on...
Imagine thinking the Adelaide pitch was bad, even Australia's shoddy batting made runs there.
@@JarrodKimberYT it was bad pitch no need to defend bcci
Australia made runs because Indian pace bowlers are no where in a league with Australian Pacers , mention one Indian pacer marking 150 kmph with consistent line and length, same here the England spinners are not in a league with Indian spinners, when you can have bat Vs bat test match, why can't we have ball Vs ball test match
@@balajiravi8344 Bumrah. Checkmate!
@@iceman4020 I said consistent 150 kmph, not bowling 150 kmph here and there, last Australia tour was an example, that too he had picked up injury before that last test, imagine he is now at the peak of his career
You are the best TH-cam has to offer . 👍
Top 25 at best.
The comments on the pitch changed relative to England's performance in the match.
When England were bowled out, everyone started criticising the pitch rather than appreciating the bowlers' technique and skill. When England bowled out India, every English Commentator was like ' Root used his skills' and then when England were bowled out again, everyone was after the pitch's ass again.
I know that this was not amongst the best of the test matches but both teams played on the same pitch and England actually batted first so they don't have any excuses lol.
If Every Cricket match was played on a Pitch like this with pink ball,What would be the batting averages of the best batsmen in the World?
I am not sure, but Axar Patel's average would go into the negative.
@@JarrodKimberYT all the batters averages in the world in teens except Smith and kohli in late twenties and Rohit would have been the don Bradman having average at mid 80's
Imagine 20-20 match on this
@@JarrodKimberYT haha.
@@VDSHORTS758 Rohit just got lucky
What do u say about the new name of this stadium !? ;)
A video on that tomorrow. Well, not on that, but it will be mentioned.
@ Jarrod Kimber any reason why most Pink test match last only 3 days. I think 90%of pink ball matches haven't gone to 5 days.
This one is special. But usually it's because the balls aren't great, they have to have more grass to protect them and it can be hard to bat at twilight.
@@JarrodKimberYT oh thanks for the response man.
Ball definitely had played a role. I also noticed the ball not spinning. Weird test match but something new to talk about.
@Jarrod - Any pointers on the seam visibility? There were complaints about the seam not clearly visible on the pink ball. Could that also be a factor that the batsmen missed the line?
PS: Was waiting for your podcast..Brilliant analysis!
I haven't heard that, usually the seam is easier to see on lighter coloured balls.

Thanks Jarrod ❤️❤️
Jarrod I was so much disappointed by this match. I can't watch two day "test" matches. This pitch didn't test batsmen's techniques, it was a dance floor for them. I didn't sleep my whole night after that match ended just by sheer disappointment.
Yeah, but it was fun
@@JarrodKimberYT The reason being I applied for a holiday from work to watch complete match on the third day. But it got wasted.
India Australia Bombay 2004 was also a two day test...
Great insights.
Unbelievable analysis man ❤️❤️❤️👏👏👏🤗🤗🤗💐💐💐🙏🙏🙏😍😍😍
You are a Pandith of cricket 🏏
No words! I am speechless 😶
7:32 Ashwin may not be a good example for this, because of the kind of variations he introduces. Axar is much more consistent.
There was plenty from Axar too, but his overs weren't as much fun. His were more uniform madness, this was mad madness.
That was the perfect example. If it was consistent then the explanation wouldn't make sense
@@Vi5hnujan my understanding, subject to correction, is that this is being used to show the variation of the pitch - Ashwin given the variety of deliveries he bowls may have had something to do with the trajectory.
@@JarrodKimberYT I was mostly going by what axar said during the interview, that he just kept it consistent and let the pitch do the rest.
@@choudhury9265 well yea. What you said makes sense now. But i dont think axar bowled an over where the pitch did this much. I misinterpreted what you said in the beginning, i thought you meant he should have shown an over with consistent bounce
Been waiting for this
did u talk to kp by any chance?
We were commentating together and sitting next to each other all Test (2 days.)
More matches with different pitch and grounds could be handy.
it was the ball that creates the difference. it wasn't spinning and it was skidding also.
It was certainly mentioned. But Root confirmed it.
Coming down the pitch and using the pads still should work even with DRS thanks to the 3 meter rule . The umpire does not give it out as the batsman is way outside and the DRS is not effective to predict the ball to the required accuracy of the distance to the stump is more than 3 meters .
That is a long way to come down, I think it's adding another risk. But would love to see batsmen try.
New stadium, day night test, pink ball, pitch with little bit of green and a lot of brown powder... but if you look at the pattern, either you can not touch the ball or the ball will be fast low and straight, the moment batsmen start assuming everything to be low straight and fast were able to survive better... only exception was when Joe Root who beside what other say, found a perfect length which was full enough (not bouncing enough) and providing slight turn (not to miss the bat but take the edge of it) and caused the downfall of India
I have seen Anil Kumble and Harbhajan Singh making a lift off for the balls from full length AND cracking the toe by throwing ball half way down the pitch, this was not the worst Indian pitch, not even in worse 10
Many factors here to consider
Pink ball
Day nighter
Poor batting
Ball not spinning
"The Michael Clarke Rule" hahaha
Today another test ended inside two days between Afghanistan and Zimbabwe.
I remember watching Jimmy Padams batting in the 1994 series..It was so frustrating. he wouldn't have survived in this DRS age.
Nope
Easy on the background music Jarrod
Can you also explain how rohit was looking so comfortable. And also why nobody played like pujara played lyon 😓.
My guess is Rohit has slightly more time than other batsmen and the ball behaving quicker didn't affect him in the same way (But who knows). Pujara didnt play like Pujara.
Extra layer of paint and lacquer on the pink ball made it skid on more than normal.
Matty Hayden had used sweep shot to counter Indian spin in 2001
Tbh it did exactly what the home team wanted. Got the win. Can't wait for an outfield as a pitch in England when we tour.
I don't think it did do what the home team wanted. It gave England way too much of a chance. The Chennai wicket was a far better wicket for India.
spot on Jarrod... I think the world needs to rethink their stand on the god damn pink ball. The dynamics are completely different with the god forsaken pink one, They should introduce as a separate game, separate format, and if they market it well in India they don't have to worry about revenue :D
You still didnt tell me where you got that Babar azam has an avg. of more than 200 in Pak!
I didn't know I had to tell you. It is in the video, you have to pay some attention. The dates I looked at are from 11/4/18-11/4/20. @@JarrodKimberYT LMAO now thats a stat!
Well said.
Do you think the pitch for the next match is going to be better or worse?
he has more time to prepare it now. And you would expect it to be better.
@@JarrodKimberYT Sound prediction!
@watson returns Pujara, Rahane. Most do when available.
