OMG! I planted basil 2 weeks ago and placed used dried tea leaves as fertilizer. After 10 days, I saw my plant spawn very fine leaves. I planted basil before so I was wondering why it didn't look like basil. After doing more research, I think I know why. My basil never grew and instead, the tea leaves did. So now I have chamomile growing! What a plot twist!
@@BestGardenChannelonTH-cam I don't mind growing chamomile. It's actually gonna be my first time so I'm looking forward to it. Basil can wait till next week when I plant again. :D
So excited to try this for my resin projects! I just got my Chamomile tea and head to YT to watch some tutorials and i found yours as the very short and very informational one. Thank you so much for this! Im still skeptical if this will grow in a tropical climate tho. Fingers crossed 🤞 ❤
that is awesome,i have been trying to find chamoile plants or seeds in my area,no one had any.I have chamomile tea bags in my cabinet, right under my nose and i never saw it.Thanks for sharing.
This is pure genius! I wish i thought of this sooner. Are there any other herbs or flowers that you can grow from tea bags? Or does this only work with chamomile...
ok so I saw this video a while back and I thought it was total crap BUT that said I tried this method. So I potted 2 teabags. Rinse the tea bag, split open the top the teabag. take a plastic cup and punch drainage holes in the bottom. fill with dirt to about 2 inches from the top. Place the moisten tea bag with the split top facing upwards. cover with about 1 inch of dirt. water the cup until you can see water come out of the drainage holes. Let it drain well. Put it in a bright window where it stays warm. Place a plastic bag over the top so you sort of make a green house. Make sure you keep the soil damp, and every few days remove the plastic bag to get fresh air in it. It takes longer than 5 days, mine took about 2 weeks before seeing some green pop through. I have let mine grow until the are sturdy to repot. Now I learned that not all teabags will have seeds in them. I planted 2 teabags but only one sprouted a plant. So I would plant a few to make sure you get a plant. Next time I am going to try other types of teabags and see what happens. let me know how it goes
Thank you for showing an easy and cheap way to grow chamomile! Your explanation was very easy to understand. One question though, what kinda soil do i need and is it ok to trim my chamomile if it grows too big? Because i just kinda want an indoor plant but chamomiles seem to grow quite big.
that's so cool, I never knew you could grow it so easily, btw you can keep harvesting it? I mean, even after taking the flower, does it keep regrowing?
Certainly does not work for any actual tea that is made from the leaves. Herbal tea that are based from flowers, which have seeds can work. in addition to chamomile I have seen it work with echinacea. Not certain about others.
This is just so great, thank you for sharing. However I wonder when you say put it under some sort of light, does that mean we have to keep it under light 24hours for 5 days continuously? As of now I am keeping it in shade, so the light they are getting is the daylight only.
Best Garden Channel on TH-cam My plants grew a lots of them and I was so happy but no they are just dying I don't know why, I keep them hydrated, what should I do? New ones are sprouting but most of the old ones are dying. Shall I keep them in the sun throughout the day? Cuz once I did and the plants that were just beginning to grow kind of destroyed themselves in the heat. I am in India and here in summers temperature goes freaking high
Try starting some of them in direct sun from the beginning. Make sure ones that you started inside or in shade you harden off by slowly exposing them to the more direct sun before leaving them there all the time. It is also possible you are over watering. While they need a lot of moisture to get started, as they establish, they actually prefer well-drained soil and can handle spouts of drought. And if you have extreme hot sunny days in the summer, you might be right that you need some shade.
Best Garden Channel on TH-cam Thank you that makes sense. My old sprouts died but new are germinating. It's like they reach some height and then die off. I put them in the sun for a while in the morning and them get them back inside otherwise they'll just burn off.
I dont have the tea bags I have the tea in loose form, and its all the full buds (the yellow part) can I still grow it from those? Should I crush them up a bit with my fingers before planting or just plant the whole buds?

I tried this method 2x and got mold. I'm going to keep trying but the stems in the mix grow mold before my seeds germinate. Maybe that's normal for this method?
Hello, Not sure if you're still responding to this video, but i've tried your method and I have a question. Am I supposed to take that plastic bag off after a few days or ? It looks like mold starts forming inside the bag. It's completely covered with that bag. Thanks for your answer
@@BestGardenChannelonTH-cam what to do about the mold? it seems like theres some in the pot in your video too... how do you get rid of it but keep the sprouts? or does it just go away naturally?
I just would dig a hole the same dimensions as the cup. Take the whole mass out and plant it so the soil from the cup is even with the ground. I would wait to transplant until they have grown up into larger plants, at least a couple inches tall. You can thin them if they seem too clustered. Also, there you can start the seed right in your garden and skip the cup altogether.
I never had success with growing them. They would get tons of aphids and kill it. They never lasted a season. Any advice? I’d love to have these in my garden. Thank you so much.
Plant some dill with them. Not only will aphids go to the dill before the chamomile but ladybugs are attracted when the dill blooms (and will control the aphid population).
My kids and I just planted some after watching your video. Thank you for the great idea

Sorry for the confusion. You should be good for sprouting. You don’t need 24 hours. The plants do well in full sun 8+ hours a day.

Kind of sounds like "damping off" which is when your young seedlings get a fungal infection and die - occurs when the soil is consistently too wet.
I have been putting them in my garden here

I might crush them a bit. I’m sure planting a whole bud might work but you would probably get a bunch of plants trying to start from the same spot.
