Apparently this noise is both a calling to tell the rest of their flock they laid an egg, but also a calling to please lay their eggs in the same spot to build a clutch faster
makes sense they want a clutch of eggs, that's why there is a "favorite" nesting box. Baby chicks only form when a fluffy warm butt sits on them and an egg can only survive for 10 days without mammas butt heat clock is ticking come in here and lay some eggs BOCK BAH GOCKK

Maybe people's assumption, that the singing is due to being proud of an accomplishment, is false. Perhaps instead the chickens worship or celebrate eggs, and sing when they see a new one. Perhaps eggs are not fully understood by chickens. Perhaps they see them as magical jewels, to be hoarded and hidden beneath their bodies.
I was told they were quiet, boy was I lied to :D. In their defense they are only loud a few hours preceding an egg laying, then the egg song can last a few minutes unless interrupted by a snack or an impatient chicken keeper.
I hear my buff Orpington, babs, sing this sometimes. But shes does it early in the morning, and with no eggs at all. so I have to run outside to tell her to shut up before she wakes up the neighbors.
