I recently had a pastor's wife say something awful to me and then basically tell me to accept it and not to question her authority over me. In my spirit, it felt very wrong. Thank you for this confirmation.

I was in a cult back in the 70s. These are right on. One other thing to look for is when and where they show up. If they have a big presence on a college campus, but not so much in the community, you know they are after people in situations of transition or crisis. I had CPTSD , and many other members had come from homes that had been difficult or disrupted. Scientologists (not my cult) apparently go to disaster areas for the same reason. People who feel insecure and alone, whose world has suddenly changed for the worse, or who have suffered heavy losses, are easy prey. Being in the cult was one of the loneliest and hurtful experiences I’ve ever had. It did not change my life for the better. It just deepened and gave new depth and dimension to my already traumatized psyche.

Now my stepdad passed away and he’s using all of my mothers money to build a house for her on his property and expand his compound.
But he keeps telling her the rapture is coming so that she should not be attached to her money.
He went through his part of the inheritance about 10 years ago, with some flimflam money operation, I think he realized that religion was the way to go because people will give you their money if you give them comfort

Why is this so accurate? I came from a cult, been there for like 3 years. Given up everything thinking I'm giving the Lord Jesus my life. Turns out it's all for the leader's vision. I'm one of those loyals in the small group. Now, I'm very happy and free enjoying God's goodness and the freedom He won for me but at the same time enduring His loving discipline. Serving Him, rather than the vision and direction of the church. For quite some time, I was releasing the pain of people misrepresenting the Lord because for so long I thought God was unkind, cruel, hard, pitiless. But it wasn't that difficult because of the joy and amazement how the Lord opened my eyes. Who knows I could've been there 'til now if not for His tender mercies. I'm still part of a church now (that's a command), and I'm glad Jesus is Lord in that place, rightly dividing the Word of God. It's true we should always be careful not to be extreme on one side or the other. All glory to Jesus alone.

I would like to add that a cult leader doesn''t like to disclose financial statements. A church or a ministry is a non-profit organization and should not be afraid to disclose it's finances to its members. Although it's biblical that the tithes are for the pastor, I don't believe that having a mansion and a Rolls Royce with money from the congregration glorifies God. If they worked for it through their professional careers, that's fine, but not with the hard earned money of others.

It's been three years and I'm still scared because they told me that I wasn't following God's will. When I continue questioning them they just say, "There is no perfect religion, all of us have imperfection." And when I continue questioning them they just say, "Do you know being against the people chosen by God is a sin?" I tend to overthink things like, "What if I'm going to be late when Jesus comes?" Because that's always what they're talking about.

I urge you, brothers and sisters, to watch out for those who cause divisions and put obstacles in your way that are contrary to the teaching you have learned. Keep away from them. 18 For such people are not serving our Lord Christ, but their own appetites. By smooth talk and flattery they deceive the minds of naive people. 19 Everyone has heard about your obedience, so I rejoice because of you; but I want you to be wise about what is good, and innocent about what is evil.
      Romans 16:17
Lovingly quickly leave, don't go behind, don't believe- obedience
Confused / red flags- don't do it all. No. Lovingly leave quickly n don't go behind and don't believe.
      Matthew 24:26
So if anyone tells you, ‘There he is, out in the wilderness,’ do not go out; or, ‘Here he is, in the inner rooms,’ do not believe it. 27 For as lightning that comes from the east is visible even in the west, so will be the coming of the Son of Man.
      1 peter 5:2-3
Be shepherds of God’s flock that is under your care, watching over them-not because you must, but because you are willing, as God wants you to be; not pursuing dishonest gain, but eager to serve; 3 not lording it over those entrusted to you, but being examples to the flock.

The thing I love about Jesus is that He said He didn't come to "lord it over" people, like the Pharisees but He came as a servant.
Pastors can get into pride and want to control people. That's witchcraft.
I've just been in a situation where I was told I need chastisement and correction just for trying to help a 'pastor'. There's no accountability, it's a one-woman show and she has a token Asst Pastor and a Head Pastor who doesn't carry out a pastoral role because he's been busy working on their house (they recently married and he's been slogging away trying to get her newly purchased house ready for the winter.

Wow... I’m still coming to terms that the community I grew up in (and that I left because I was constantly “the problematic one” for not blindly following pre-established authority) ticks all the boxes and even more... and it just makes me so sad because I’ve lost my faith because of that, or rather I can’t find the same passion I had. It’s lost forever, I feel. Now I need to reorganise my thinking on what faith and religion really is and whether or not I actually want to participate. Either way, thank you for this video.

Also that when God speaks to us it has to align with scripture or in many cases is directly from scripture (a specific verse, passage, book, story, etc) So part of what Mark’s saying is no one has the authority to be adding a commandment or something. God absolutely speaks to us through His word and leading and through others we trust who reference His word but we just need to be cautious about when people say “God told me to tell you” that what they say aligns with the word.

I think it would be helpful if you mention that a cult leader does not need to have all 13 characteristics to be a cult leader. For example, most, but not not all cult gurus live in better homes or living conditions as their followers, especially those who live in the same houses, remote communes, or compounds as their followers. Charles Manson lived on the same dilapidated ranch as his group. David Koresh, Marshal Applewhite, and Jim Jones were also living in the same spartan living conditions as their cult members. Also, not all cult leaders have SMALL followings. Moonies and Scientologists are huge cults with many members, but they use the same mind-control techniques as a small cult uses, only on a grand scale.

    • @anonyarena
      @anonyarena ปีที่แล้ว

@@yyy-875 And, we can add to this, that not all cults are even religious in nature. Keith Raniere of the NXIVM cult did not even mention God at all, he only pretended to be a self-help counselor all the while he was slowly and secretly indoctrinating and brainwashing his followers. Imagine allowing someone to "brand" you with their "mark" as if you are cattle on a ranch. You really know you are being dominated and controlled, when you allow someone to burn their symbol into your flesh. Cults can also be political. Lyndon LaRouche was the leader of a political cult. Q-Anon is another political cult that takes this "blind-faith" extremism to the next level, where those followers don't even KNOW who this mysterious "Q" actually IS whom they are following, and yet they still take everything this "Q" says as the absolute truth, and anticipate the fulfillment of predictions, even as prediction after prediction fail to come true. If someone really is a religious person, they should know one of the warnings the Gospel explains is to beware of false prophets, and who can be more false than someone who's predictions repeatedly fail? It's really quite astonishing, to put such unshakable faith in an anonymous someone who flatly refuses to even tell people who they are.

This is spot on! The fellowship I was in took a wrong turn when the pastors wife heeded to pride and was entertained by the though that she was one of the olive trees that stand beside the Lord of the whole earth.
She and all the leadership in that fellowship are now full believers in her calling and when one man exposed it to mature Christians the leadership swiftly told the rest to of the church not to have anything to do with those men as they were in rebellion and a very strong deception had come upon them and they were now doing Satan’s work to tear the church of God apart.
It’s nothing but fear tactics to keep the blind blind which unfortunately worked causing a lot of people to shun these men before they heard what their issue was all because they were afraid of being deceived.
The leadership now believe this woman is blameless and anyone who thinks not or disagrees with her on anything is deceived and sent by Satan to try and prevent her from her calling. It’s sad really that none of them can see that they’ve elevated her to a status of Goddess.

      John 4:15-26
15 The woman said to him, “Sir, give me this water so that I won’t get thirsty and have to keep coming here to draw water.”
16 He told her, “Go, call your husband and come back.”
17 “I have no husband,” she replied.
Jesus said to her, “You are right when you say you have no husband. 18 The fact is, you have had five husbands, and the man you now have is not your husband. What you have just said is quite true.”
19 “Sir,” the woman said, “I can see that you are a prophet. 20 Our ancestors worshiped on this mountain, but you Jews claim that the place where we must worship is in Jerusalem.”
21 “Woman,” Jesus replied, “believe me, a time is coming when you will worship the Father neither on this mountain nor in Jerusalem. 22 You Samaritans worship what you do not know; we worship what we do know, for salvation is from the Jews. 23 Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in the Spirit and in truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks. 24 God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in the Spirit and in truth.”
25 The woman said, “I know that Messiah” (called Christ) “is coming. When he comes, he will explain everything to us.”
26 Then Jesus declared, “I, the one speaking to you-I am he.”

    3. "God sent me to . . "
10 And there was a certain disciple at Damascus, named Ananias; and to him said the Lord in a vision, Ananias. And he said, Behold, I am here, Lord.
11 And the Lord said unto him, Arise, and go into the street which is called Straight, and enquire in the house of Judas for one called Saul, of Tarsus: for, behold, he prayeth,
12 And hath seen in a vision a man named Ananias coming in, and putting his hand on him, that he might receive his sight.
13 Then Ananias answered, Lord, I have heard by many of this man, how much evil he hath done to thy saints at Jerusalem:
14 And here he hath authority from the chief priests to bind all that call on thy name.
15 But the Lord said unto him, Go thy way: for he is a chosen vessel unto me, to bear my name before the Gentiles, and kings, and the children of Israel:
16 For I will shew him how great things he must suffer for my name's sake.
17 And Ananias went his way, and entered into the house; and putting his hands on him said, Brother Saul, the Lord, even Jesus, that appeared unto thee in the way as thou camest, hath sent me, that thou mightest receive thy sight, and be filled with the Holy Ghost.
    -Acts 9:10-17
17 Now while Peter doubted in himself what this vision which he had seen should mean, behold, the men which were sent from Cornelius had made enquiry for Simon's house, and stood before the gate,
18 And called, and asked whether Simon, which was surnamed Peter, were lodged there.
19 While Peter thought on the vision, the Spirit said unto him, Behold, three men seek thee.
20 Arise therefore, and get thee down, and go with them, doubting nothing: for I have sent them.
21 Then Peter went down to the men which were sent unto him from Cornelius; and said, Behold, I am he whom ye seek: what is the cause wherefore ye are come?
22 And they said, Cornelius the centurion, a just man, and one that feareth God, and of good report among all the nation of the Jews, was warned from God by an holy angel to send for thee into his house, and to hear words of thee.
23 Then called he them in, and lodged them. And on the morrow Peter went away with them, and certain brethren from Joppa accompanied him.
    - Acts 10:17-23
Read Acts 22 on your own.
God had sent Ananias, Peter and Paul to specific places and this was done as obedience. Are they cult leaders?

And when it is Spirit-led, it will always be for the person's edification, in service to them, giving out of love, or protecting the flock as their shepherd. It should never be done to manipulate, control or simply lord authority over others. That is the red flag.

I think it’s good to explain these things so people can avoid controlling cultus churches. I just want to say this without discounting what you’re saying just like a person who’s in an abusive relationship trying to figure out if they’re in an abusive relationship and then talking to other people about it, reading materials about it getting explanations about what the dynamics of abuse look like often whatever you’re reading or what people are saying doesn’t look exactly , like what the person is going through or experiencing the abusers are often more covert than what is being explained for example, in an abusive relationship, one of the tactics is isolation. The abuser might not be so obvious to stop their foot down and say to their victim, you better not have any friends you better not talk to your family. You better not do this or that they can be very subtle with the way that they isolate and make it difficult to put your finger on it. They can purposely, just be manipulating things manipulating you to a point where it makes it impossible for you to see your family or friends and you don’t realize what is going on because it is covert. This is just one example of what I’m talking about. I hope it resonates with people makes sense you know. my thoughts are with many leaders they are covert so you have to really put the pieces of the puzzle together. Ask God to help you with it to see really see what you’re in and what is happening to you with the controlling manipulative leaders I’m not sure if this is a good example or not but one day I was talking to the pastors wife where I used to attend church, I hadn’t attended regularly due to the fact that I moved an hour away and because of the whole Covid crisis, I was talking to her about a problem that I wanted prayer for she didn’t pray for me. She asked me who my pastor was so I just never responded back to her. We were texting back-and-forth, that felt very funny to me was all of the other things that I saw in the church and I saw a lot of stuff in that church that was crazy like the pastor hiring bodyguards like the pastor yelling at people telling people that if the church went under it. It would be our fault because we didn’t give enough time and offering, call our church special like our church was the best church in the world he would say that over and over again which does provide and identity of exclusivity separating us from everyone else like we were better. I always felt weird when he would say those things I could go on and on, but I do want people to read my comment you know it’s just they don’t always come out and just blatantly act like a cult leader so my recommendation is if somebody’s feeling weird every time they go to church really educate yourself on what abuse looks like you know Church abuse don’t talk about what you’re thinking. They are brainwashed for sure or possibly brainwashed because if you’re feeling funny, there’s a good chance that somethings wrong and that place you know like a gut feeling that somethings wrong trust your gut.

I just wanna add the part about her asking me who my Pastor was it was like she wasn’t going to pray for me unless I gave allegiance to her husband being my pastor. I don’t think that that is biblical. We are all a member of the body of Christ, and who my pastor would be would be somebody who acts like a shepherd somebody who ministers to the last one ministers to the struggling, somebody who cares I couldn’t say that he was my pastor because I didn’t see that in him. I also didn’t like that because it felt controlling. I shouldn’t have to announce that someone is my pastor for someone to pray for me and a time of need I don’t know maybe I should start but I think a better work out myself first, I think I’ve been under controlling pastors my life ever since I’ve been born really so I have a lot to process

So you think the holy spirit doesn't speak to anyone? If you have to make a decision to leave a job or not, which verse tells You that??i mean the Canon is closed so the holy spirit can't speak anything outside of scripture. Where should I live? How does God communicate this?. Or does he not care? How does someone know they called to be a missionary? How does God communicate this?
Maybe you should explain to us what is the day to day practical Application of the Canon is closed.
What's the job of the holy spirit
      ?
God never contradicts himself ie his word, the word is what we use to judge all things but theres are things that are not in the word and thats where the holy spirit comes in.
Of courses there are abuses of that too.

Thank you for enlightening on this issue.
My own pastor stubbornly refuse to let the offering including tithes to be counted before submitting, even returned certain collection because it was counted before submitting. He shouted in church AGM that he is not answerable to anyone and that no one has the right to 'tell him' what he should do. He don't follow the financial rule. Millions of rupees budgeted are spent as "Grant" so that there is no real audit.
What should I do for myself? Leave the church? Reform is impossible now

What you said are very true. You just described what I went through in Malaysia exactly. I regret that I wasted a lot of offering in such churches.Such churches are usually private, independent churches. They are not interested in supporting missionary work..Only l or 2 person are in charge of of offering and finance. Finance and offering are never transparent.

“God told me to tell you to give me $3,000”
“God told me to tell you, if you want to go to heaven, your wife must sleep with me”
I’ve seen “pastors” say that 😂

My son fell into a heretical charismatic fundamentalist cult whose leader does most of the things on this list. Whenever anyone criticizes his actions, he claims he's being "persecuted". He also claims he has "liberty" to smoke and drink whiskey at local bars.

This video is right-on !!! When I lived in a Bible-based cult (we were supposedly going to live like the first Christians), the justification for the leader taking so much money was 2 Bible verses, "Muzzle not the ox that treadeth out the corn," and "The laborer is worthy of his hire." (I think they made it worthy of double). Definitely couldn't question him because he compared himself to (wait for it, not the New Testament)...Moses, and any question was called "causing divisions." Our cult allegedly had the only truth because we were going to just read the Bible and let it speak for itself (right), and all other churches had "false doctrine."

Interesting, I used to live in a house where the owner told me to my face that his house was the only safe place for me. I don’t think so, I finally had the opportunity to get the heck out of there but it’s said that the narcissist will find a way to always keep tabs on their targets/victims. I believe it 👍👍

If there is a woman in charge watch out that's not biblical . Also if there is always a need to speak of demons and spirits watch out fear tactic . Stay in God's word and that won't happen to you

I know in Mormonism, tithing is a huge thing and is required to be paid of 10% of your income. Otherwise its a sin and you can't go into the temple, and will kindly have a talk with the bishop (usually your neighbor friend) Not the main reason I left bty but its just one of many pressures that keep you in

  • @rickg882
    @rickg882 ปีที่แล้ว

Maybe you haven't heard this one: My pastor years ago asked the congregation to write down what their yearly income is and turn it in, he collected it and have someone count them and then the pastor told off the people that they are not giving their 10%, he said you all just told me your income and I should be have this amount on money each week.

Melissa Francis yes😊 and I believe wealth and success come from God it's also hard work but God ultimately determines our direction in life. And when people don't use there money to help those in need around them it is sinful to see someone in need and not feed them or give them a couch to sleep on if they need it

Honestly some of those high profile pastors/teachers have earned their money from their book sales not from their church or following. Joyce Myers has been to my city twice and tickets were free; you just had to get there early to get a seat.

I love my church. You have to be a man married to one woman and have a family to be considered qualified to teach SS or be a leader in the church. I am divorced and 55 with many, many years of biblical understanding and experience. I'm not qualified to be a leader in the church but we have a 30 yo who is also divorced but has kids and recently saved within 6 months is deemed qualified and they are having him to teach SS and get involved with leadership. After about 6 months, he has left the church but I am still not qualified to be a leader in our small church.
Also, my adult SS teacher is, admittedly, a big sinner who likes to drink, has a hot temper, not patient, and can barely talk. He is 75 and married with grown kids who have nothing to do with God. Fruits of the Spirit? None. Not a one. lol.

Neither Jesus, nor John the Baptist, or apostle Paul could teach at that church.
