His powerful and totally distinctive voice, plus his good looks made him a real superstar and now living legend still singing at 80. Many of the male stars today look and dress like boys and their voices are auto tuned and generic. There are a few exceptions but I’m still waiting for one that can sing like this....waiting...waiting-ha ha.

It was funny how they'd yell at us kids (or the husbands) to keep the noise down so they could hear him sing. :-) Elvis Presley was a fan & friend, often saying that Tom's voice was the best he's ever heard. I remember watching footage of his concerts & seeing women throwing their panies on stage. As a kid, i didn't understand what was driving these weirdo ladies so crazy to strip off their underwear to toss them and their hotel room keys at his feet. Now I do understand - LOL! Ok, you must check out, in this order - "Delilah" and then "Green green grass of home" - seriously dark/deep lyrics but Tom sings them so beautifully that you forget what the songs are actually about. :-) For some lighter, more upbeat tunes check out She's a Lady, It's not unusual, & KISS (his cover of Prince's hit song). side note - Tom's nickname is "The Voice". He was dubbed that decades before the competition/reality TV show of the same name...

There is another song that he sang called "Without Love." The raw emotion he puts into that song will make your sink crawl. The passion is so deep. Totally agree with you. The power and virility of Tom Jones' voice is one of a kind. Elvis Presley is a good singer but the Tiger of Wales is much better in my opinion.
@John Smith I agree that both Elvis and Tom had magnificent voices and both can deliver songs with emotion. They both did "I'll Never Fall in Love Again," as well, though I love Tom's version better. Hearing most of his songs here on TH-cam, as well as Elvis, I must say Tom's voice has a higher canon baritone tenor voice; he's truly a belter. In my humble opinion, Tom is the male version of Whitney Houston. Like Whitney's voice, Tom's voice is a masterpiece. Though Elvis is gone, thank God that in my lifetime in real-time Tom Jones and Engelbert Humperdinck are alive to allow me and others to still witness their genuine talent.
