Morning Jaw in La Grange Ky. Street running trains are amazing, especially on a busy street like this. I think I was born on the wrong side of the tracks, but here I wouldn't know which side that is. LOL
First time I have see your recording, and I can’t understand why vehicles are parked so close to the tracks. In Australia there would be ‘no parking’ signs all along the road. Actually there would not be huge freight trains going along the middle of the street!!
Most of those tank containers in that first train were carrying wine. Yes, wine. I chuckled. Always like LaGrange videos. Street-running is just plain cool. Thanks once more, JT. I'll see y'all next time.
This was another very well done video, all kinds of action. Those street trains really slow things down in that section of the city. I wonder how often an ambulance or firetruck has to wait out one of those trains. That courthouse is quite impressive.
I would expect the fire service would have two substations, one on each side of the railroad, to cover for these kind of issues. (To be honest, the fact that this RR still runs through the middle of town, while there is an easy way around it, is mind boggling.)
The railroad is a big tourist draw - without it, the main street would not be so gentrified. The town grew up around the tracks. In order to build a rail bypass, the town would need to purchase a new right-of-way and install the tracks, signals, grade crossings, etc. to exchange with the RR for their existing right-of-way. Maybe they could get a federal grant, but there would be a revolt.
@@john_nip_nopgood grasp of what the street running trains bring to La Grange People who think they're a problem which desperately needs to be solved have an extremely poor understanding of it. As for the train blocking the emergency vehicles that happens in every town with a railroad running through it whether street running or not.
Lagrange 🎉🎉 railfan heaven. Awesome video. Loved that intermodel. That was a long one! That case you had the one person rule😂😂🤣. You made do . That will be a nice-looking courthouse. The outside is the only part I want to see. Thanks for the video Brian stay well roll on

Jaw Tooth, why are there not separate fire stations and ambulance stations on the opposite side of the track? Hope no one suffered. Cheers, great work!
Hey jaw tooth live action son. 2 trains and fire truck and ambulance. It be cool if you were seen on virtual railfan camera. Have a great railroad day 🚂🙍
Based on the information in your description for this video, you must have had a busy railfanning day in LaGrange, Kentucky on 18 March 2024, Jaw Tooth. You have this video and at least one more video coming soon. The northbound intermodal train was a decent size train. The southbound auto rack train heading to Louisville, Kentucky made the FedEx delivery driver move his truck in a hurry. It seemed to me that the auto rack train was moving faster than usual after the fire engine and ambulance appeared. I wonder if the LaGrange, Kentucky Fire Department dispatcher called the CSX dispatcher to tell him that the train needed to move faster because of a medical emergency.
The street running auto rack was going about 7mph at first, but picked up speed some time after the fire truck showed up. At the end, it was going over 14mph. I wonder if the engineer was alerted somehow? That first double stack had over 90 car body units, including the two locomotives.
The axle count really gets skewed with the articulated units having just eight axles for three 'cars' instead of the twelve we are accustomed to. (I know each unit in the articulated string carries the same AAR number, which could be a real headache for the maintenance crews). Fabulous video, once again, my fiend. Thank you! In my home area from my youth, Franklin, PA had several places where there was street running trains - 'JOY MINING AND MACHINERY' used to ship 'continuous miners' out by rail and those memories are still with me - seeing that huge locomotive, the flatcar with the miner on it. Let God be your guide and you'll always be fine
Back in the mid 70’s I was responding to a fire in a rural area. As a came upon a crossing the lights were flashing and the Conrail engine was about to enter the crossing. When he saw my truck with the lights flashing he immediately hammered down the engines. By the time the caboose crossed he had that train rocking and rolling. As I started across the conductor waved and spoke into his radio telling the engineer they were clear of the crossing I’m sure. By your train being a street runner I don’t know if the engineer had know if he could have speeded up or not. Maybe the fire dispatcher could have contacted the railroad and they could have speed him up.
I can't picture this on some streets in Massachusetts! I live along a railroad ( in my backyard) couldn't imagine it being on a main road with traffic!
What a jerk that guy was to step right in front of you, but thru it all you retained your composure and just moved further down the street for a better unobstructed view. You're a "classy" guy, keep up the good work!
the town i live in before it was dry had a bar next to then B&O metro subdivision. The parking lot for the bar was grade level with the tracks. some drunk parked his car on the tracks one night and a west bound B&O dragged the car down the tracks aways. When i was a boy a box car somehow drifted out of a siding and went east for about 10 miles, went through several grade crossings. i bet the people at the crossings were surprised to se just on box car go by and it was going fast. There was a work train in the main town that the box car hit. went right up on top of the caboose, which i saw.

Delaying the first responders is not good but that what happens when you put main st where the track are. Have county/state put a overpass on one of the crossings

The waiting time for the fire truck and ambulance is at least 3 minutes and 40 seconds. Let's hope it won't affect the disaster they're responding to.

You are correct it depends on how many sections are connected together before a coupler is used
