Adding an External Sump to a VW Bus Engine

- The engine is out, and boy is it a mess! I took some time and cleaned it up, tossed on a fresh coat of paint, and dumped the oil. Now the real work can begin. We want to make this motor run cool and worry free on the long trips, so we added an oil sump to get more oil capacity. Chris came by to help and Duke made sure we stayed on task. Lets go!

That motor will be a real beaut Clark!
Oh...... you don't even know!
Good progress.
Good stuff!
permatex is a very good sealer and will not leak. this will be a asset to cool that motor off in high temps.
can't wait for the next video.
That's what I'm hoping
My engine has the larger sump but I haven't driven it much as of yet. Just ordered several body for it to cut down on some of the draft.😎 The tranny has a slight drip but it did sit in a pasture for a couple decades. I was pleased that it worked after we just drained it and put fresh lube in it.
Awesome!
Hey jason...great job as always can't wait for next video
Thanks!
I’m doing the same things to my motor, painted all the new tins Turkis, will look awesome. And I’m hoping the motor will run cooler, mine overheated so easy before.
Jason, what are you going to do with the Grey Ragtop ? I know you like buses, but that is my favorite
That one has become a long term project. There was more wrong with it than I thought when I picked it up, so I have a long list of things to do. Once the bus is back on the road I'll get back on it.
Thanks for the update. I have restored a 66 Convertible and will do a Ragtop as my next project so I am looking forward to your working on the ragtop. Thanks much
I love the add on!. I’ve just got my donor engine to this exact stage this week and just bought my degreaser. I’ve never seen the sump upgrade before and think this is a great mod for my motor. I should get some photos of my bus over to you,….somehow ☺️
Awesome! The sump is a good upgrade for larger motors to carry away the extra heat. I'd love to see your bus! Send pics to us @oldvolkstv on Facebook!
@@OldVolksTV , posted!. Still looking forward to the stickers☺️
I'm not sure where they went, but I'll get some more on the way 🤷♀️
@@OldVolksTV cool, thank you. Wasn’t sure if you sent them. Great addition to my bus!. I hope you like the pics 😊☺️
Nice job!!!! I would like to find here in Brazil a similar product like the Permatex that you always use in the seals. Here we use silicone (non acetic).
It's good stuff. It's anaerobic, so it never dries up and gets "hard". That makes it easy to take apart later.
@@OldVolksTV is your friend a cop? I saw a big gun with him. Here in Brazil this is not allowed.
No. In Texas anyone can carry a sidearm. It's fairly common. We hardly notice it anymore.
@@OldVolksTV I hope this could be allowed here in Brazil, we have a huge problem with personal security
👍
What fan setup is on engine on the black cart?
I'm installing one of the new fans from Andrigs Aircooled Technology (AAT). I'll have more in a future video.
