Al, you too solve many problems online and like Ben and Jason, you can do anything. Jason watching you build, fence work with your animals with joy is great. Understand trying to determine what and how to video can be difficult. But, we appreciate all the content you guys produce. Thanks for a great year.

re LGD - out of a litter of 8-12 puppies - some will show an innate preference to be outside with animals and others in the litter will gravitate towards people/house. Both are capable of guarding a property. Either way - with the size of properties that each of you have - recommend planning for a PAIR of LGDs - adopt one that has grown up with animals/farm that you can train to your home/routines/animals and once he/she demonstrates confidence and consistent behaviors then you can adopt a puppy and the older dog will be a HUGE asset in helping you train the puppy how to "dog" and be an LGD. The older dog will teach the puppy manners, structure and other key elements of recognizing danger (or not), etc. and will help burn off the energy of the puppy.

Jerod Crocker (south texas roots) and his family have a ranch way down south in TX where they have Nailguy. They are big like moose. Cog hill farm has a huge jersey cow. The word in the chefs circle here in cattle country is that dairy cows make surprisingly good beef. They are bought from local dairy farms for beef once they don't produce milk as well as they demand.

He seems to have no need of a mansion or material things. Just things to make the job easier. And a happy family. Thank you 🙏 and Gods blessings on you all. Only one question! What enables Al to invest so much money into his homestead? Are he and his wife still working other jobs?

We have Anatolian Shepherds for guardians. Jason you are correct, they do tend to roam if you don’t have proper fencing. We found that the Anatolian Shepherds don’t roam as badly as the Great Pyrenees but we still built a 5 foot fence with an electric top wire to make sure ours stay home.
You are wise to wait for the right time. They take a good bit of time to train to start with but ours caught on so quickly that they fast became a real asset to the farm. They are great dogs.❤

Ben and Jason could have the neighbor who filmed the butchering, Calico Homestead(I think). She could do some videos on how much is involved in homestead sitting. This would be more doable in the winter rather than the summer. You could both trade her labor for beef, pork, turkeys or whatever. It would be interesting to see her perspective on what is easy or complicated about homestead sitting. That would give her some content not covered by others and you guys would have some new content with the visit.

Our best selling game meat is South Texas Antelope. These animals are officially named the "nilgai" antelope and originate in India and Nepal. "Nilgai" means "blue bull" in certain East Indian dialects. They were originally introduced to the King Ranch in the 1930's by a family member who decided that South Texas was a tough environment for cattle that had evolved in a cooler climate.

I think a cool thing for the podcast in the new year would be getting guests on the show. If I had my pick for the first guest it would be Erik and Ariel from Simple Living Alaska. Love watching all 4 of your channels and would be great to see you all have a conversation.

Neglia is the animal you are talking about, hunts here in Texas start at around 8,000.

🎉🎉🎉 Happy New Year to everyone. Al the area you're in made our news and i thought about how that might be your area. That flooding is a mess to clean up. North California here, we were in the huge evacuation area of 2/2017. It didn't get us but such a fright/ frenzy.
Like others, i appreciate these pod casts❤ Ben and Jason thanks for everything you all post, its all appropriated 🎉

We only have chickens on our Farmstead right now and even they put a twist in travel plans so I totally relate to your planning challenges to visit eachother.
