- On this episode of GSL UNCUT, Melissa and Jeremy meet up and share a conversation with Tom and Nancy Oar, stars of the History Channel's hit TV show, "Mountain Men". The episode is set within the couples rustic cabin located in Yaak, Montana.
Melissa and Jeremy spend an hour discussing the upbringing of Tom and Nancy, as well as their competitive rodeo days, their move to Montana, and the things they've learned living in such a rugged territory for decades.
❤ This was a special treat ❤ We've watched Tom and Nancy from the get-go. It warms our hearts and souls to hear of their journey through life. Thanks guys for giving us "ALL" this gift ❤
First of all I like to thank Chip and Jo for not being available this week. Second, you guys are finding interesting folks to have a sit down with 😊
I’m glad y’all are stepping out of just TH-camrs. It’s a great reminder to all who are living thru the screen. Get out there and live the life you were meant to live at any age.
Take care
Yeah. GSL is definitely an expanded universe. And we all know Tony Stark is somewhere out there. 😄
This interview is awesome !! Chip and Joanna are going to wish they had scheduled their interview before Tom and Nancy.
What a blessing. Tom and Nancy love them and the show.
I've watched Mountain Men since the beginning! We always look for Tom. He's one tough guy! What resilience ❤️
I loved watching Tom and Nancy when we had tv. We haven’t had tv in 5 years now. They were a big influence on my husband and I when we were thinking of moving to the mountains. We made the jump and are loving it. Have a great day.
Thanks for sharing!!
Wow, what an amazing interview.
Nancy is a gem. Tom watching her adoringly as she answered and shared different viewpoints was so so cute. What an amazing couple.
You two knocked it out of the park with this interview, nice job!!
I hear a new theme for a T-shirt... "An Attitude of Gratitude". Love it!
Yes, water is gold. As a child in the 1960's on the plains in Eastern Colorado, our family was barely hammering out a living by farming and ranching and the droughts almost dried up our well water - only water for livestock, the garden and one bath a week for all six in the family. I learned to conserve on water which is still with me. My folks made hard work rather enjoyable - there was always something to be doing and that also still holds for today... Idle hands are the playground of the devil!
A prairie flower that still blooms here on the sagebrush sea of Eastern Colorado 😅
❤ loved this episode. Have enjoyed watching the Oar’s for years. Can’t believe the projects and trapping they have done at their age.
Thanks for having them on your Podcast.
They are such down to earth genuine folks. The worlds losing this rustic touch. I’m 42 and just getting ready to close a deal on a place I’m buyin in the country here in Ohio. I’m looking forward to starting a new life there and getting back to the basics. This was encouraging
I would love to spend just a day with Tom and Nancy, to learn about life in general. Thank you for giving us all a small look into their lives.
I was sooo happy to see who y'all were interviewing I love those two ! They both have such great attitudes and never seem to complain much.😊
This was a great episode guys! I've enjoyed so many of them but this is the first one where I was like... I wish there was another hour!
My grandpa trapped animals for their hides. Watching Tom always gives me a sense of spending time with my grandpa. Whom I loved very much.
An awesome production of adventures n history!
Great time of sharing!I learned a couple of very helpful tips n techniques to build better arrows from watching a couple of his " archery how to's "!!
Awesome!!!!
A hero in my eyes..and

Enjoyed this conversation. I live looking at our ocean view everyday. I see the beauty of Diamonhead, the power of Pearl Harbor, the fishermen and oil tankers and just the beauty of the ocean. I love when the sun comes up and the night lights go off. The 2 mountain ranges and the rainbows. Tom and Nancy are an amazing couple.
My 94 year old mother has watched Tom and Nancy since their first episode. She said the way they live reminded her of how everyone lived in the early days. ❤
What a wonderful couple Tom & Nancy . Watched mountain man first time it came on for a long time but then time got away from me . Lost my Dad , Mom & husband . So glad to see them doing well & they look great.
Thank you for coming on the podcast.
Love them and their life experiences and advice, especially Nancy's words about not doing something when your heart feels things not right. Making wise choice is the foundation of a good life. A good life may not be an easy one, but it is a good life. Thank you for a good hour of listening to good stories of good lives.
Thank you this was a great podcast. I would have loved seeing Tom and Eli have a talk.
Tom and Nancy are such an inspirational couple, absolutely loved their interview, well done guy's 🥰🙏👏💚🤍🧡🇮🇪
another excellent conversation. You are keeping me young and believe me at 76 that is a feat in and of it's self. Interesting to see how truly mind expanding simple living really is. It does indeed get harder as you age but the fact of being grateful certainly makes it easier. It was a lesson my mother left me. In her last year as illness took away freedom of movement she managed to let her mind take her to all those gifts of God from her passed I often go to check on her and find her with a smile on her face and when asked what had given her the smile she said she had just visited in her mind a trip to the beach, a walk in the woods, Christmas when we were all small. She had an amazing way of keeping the joy in her life. The wars, Depression, lost jobs, hard finncial time, and loss her sight and loved ones never seemed win she always was grateful for what life had given her. Memory Eternal Thank you again for cheering my life up and giving joy. May you be blessed and God grant you many years.
As a kid living on a very rural farm in the 60's, we had no TV living way out in the country. When our parents would visit another farm family, we would take our GI Joe or other toys and sit on the kitchen floor and listen to our parents talk about life, memories, and the world as they saw it. It was wonderful. Listening to your podcast is like the way it was--oh so very good! A wonderful conversation to share!
Hey, I've seen this couple on Mountain Men. They're great. I think Tom is so talented and has the greatest skill in trapping and then taking care of the skins and furs of animals to sell them for money that is needed for them. I really appreciated this discussion and I was very surprised that you were interviewing them on your own channel. Simply amazing. Thanks.
Couldn't agree more!
As usual, you guys did not disappoint. Not only do I love, "The Mountain Man", but the Orrs are my favorite of the show. Another podcast we'll done and I can't wait for your next one or your Saturday TH-cam video. ❤
Wow, what an honor, to get the opportunity to meet and talk to this amazing couple. Tom and Nancy have been my favorite people of that show since the first episode. They are just so interesting. I could sit and listen to Tom as long as he'd let me. I'd love to learn from him even more. I'm going to have to watch more of your channel. I hope you consider a few follow up episodes with the Orrs. What a treasure they are. Thank you for sharing your time with them. Be well.
Great show, we
have been big fans of Tom and Nancy Oar. Such down to earth people.
Wonderful interview. So great to see four people being so real about their lives. Thanks.
LOVED listening to this wonderful couple! Thank you!!!
So happy to watch and listen to this interview….I’ve been watching Tom and his wife for years.I live in a city in BC while growing up in the backwoods of northern Ontario Canada, I live those days gone by they are talking about….I watch them to relive those days as why I watch tour family as well to never forget th simpler days of nature and only hearing nature…ty
I felt like I was sitting at the table with you guys. It was such a nice, relaxing visit with some very admirable people. Tom and Nancy's free spitited, adventureous approach to life epitomizes their generation, one I was 10 years behind, but have tried to emulate my entire life. Thank you for bringig Tom and Nancy's wonderful story to us, Melissa and Jeremy! xo
Glad you enjoyed it!
What a terrific story and way of life. They are so contented with their life style and each other. They have good lessons. I bet Eli is watering at his mouth. lol Thanks again
Tom & Nancy Oar are national treasures. I have enjoyed watching them on “Mountain Men” from the start. Thanks for sharing them on your podcast. Moving from the big city to my own little North Idaho forest was the most healing thing I ever did after my LE career.
Yet another brilliant interview. You are both real naturals at interviewing people and you pick some really fascinating interviewees. Thank you again.
Two of my favorite couples! Tom and Nancy have been my favorite people on Mountain Men since it started ! Living the life!

So many incredible stories!
Hi guys,I must say this is the best ever chat you’ve done I really did enjoy watching this my family and I love Tom & Nancy thank you to all from all of our family here in the uk.🥰💕💖💕🥰
Glad you enjoyed it
You really get a peacefulness when you actually look up instead of down. Look up...see the sky...listen to the little noises around you that the birds or squirrels are making. It's all there for each of us to enjoy. Keep that in your heart. Loved this interview and love how they are spreading the idea of the lifestyle of yesterday. Yesterday is now my today:)
This is so amazing!! They have found their true passion nestled in that cabin and in the woods around it!! We should all learn from their way of life❤️
I was so 3xcited to watch this one ! I am a big fan of Mountain Men, especially Tom and Nancy ! Thank you so much for this one. ❤❤😊
Love, love, love! ❤ This interview did not disappoint! I was thrilled hearing Nancy’s views as she is the more quiet one on the show. Those two fit together like hand in glove. Very inspirational.
I absolutely love Tom and Nancy. You can’t help but look and listen to learn that these two are genuine people. His is the way I grew up. I hope some day to make it to Montana.
What a sweet genuine couple! They were awesome!
The simple, down to earth life values shared here are priceless treasures so many in this generation have no reference for. This episode puts skin on the phrases 'stop and smell the roses' and 'bloom where you are planted'. What an inspiration both couples are!!!!!
What a wonderful episode! And what an amazing couple! Really enjoyed this! Thank you so much!
Awesome! enjoyed meeting the Oars. Looked up the Mountain Men series...will start watching. God Bless them!
What a great interview to have. With an amazing couple who have done so much living, find their life stories fascinating. Thank YOUS for sharing this.❤️
Wonderful video...took me back to how I was raised. Thank you for the video
That is the only thing I miss about TV, I loved watching "Mountain Men," mainly Nancy and Tom Oar. I loved watching Tom pass on his skills, knowledge, and experience to his neighbor and the little boy. Nancy has such a talent with sewing, making beautiful clothing out of hides, and the detail in her beading is always so perfect. I hope those skills and crafts will be passed on for generations and never get lost. I feel there will be a time when they will be needed again. As a young girl, I dreamed of living a life like theirs. Oh how I miss watching them.
I am halfway through watching the video and can't take my eyes off the "Hawaiian" Jeremy, is wearing a T-shirt, while all the others are bundled up wearing layers. LOL!!! Jeremy has really gotten acclimated to the colder weather!
What an incredible interview. Thank you so much! We live in Japan - my wife is Japanese. Here, they have designated Living National Treasures....poets, artists etc Tom and Nancy are real American National Treasures! We rally enjoyed that!
The best interview I ever heard,so interesting
A Great podcast with some amazing people ! I love how they live and all the things they do!
So appreciative for you doing this interview. I like many, have watched them on Mountain Men and I have long admired them both. Tom is such an incredible teacher. He comes across as someone that never meets a stranger. Oddly enough they are the same people during the interview that I have always felt that they are when watching the show. Just down to earth people. Even though my trapping and skinning years have been left behind, I enjoy seeing someone that has been able to make it their life. Once again GSL UNCUT, you have knocked it out of the park!
This was beautiful! I am from Sweden and years ago I followed Mountain men, Tom and Nancy, you are just such good teachers and I love hearing your life story. All my love, RoseMari
What a delight to see them interview so similarly as they seem on the television show. Thank you for doing this video.
Loved this episode, so star struck seeing Tom &Nancy, how fun for you guys. Loved it❤
this is a real treat!!! they are interesting people with amazing talent so much fun to watch great interview thank you
How can Chip & Joanna not want to be on your podcast! Love you guys!! Nancy & Tom are such beautiful people.
i love in the spring to sit on my porch and have my coffee or have my devotion time and just listen to the birds and the squirrels chirping and we fish so i love getting out early in the morning watching and listening to everything as it awakes to a new day its just beautiful
I an in my early 70's. I admire how they became modern pioneers by choice. Not sure if I could have done that even though I love the idea of it all. Even the what you have done moving to the mountains building your own home, I truly admire that as well. Here in the city I try to listen for & see those tell tales signs that something is a foot. Here the sounds are not my heartbeat, but the gunshots, or sounds of falling leaves or seed pods, depending on the season, on my roof. Anyhow, I love the idea of the lifestyle you and your guest chose to live.
I love those folks , so glad you got the chance to interview them ❤
This was the best interview I have ever heard. Can't wait for the next one
I just love Tom and Nancy, they are very talented.

Thank you for an inspirational interview. I too have watched all the episodes of "Mountain Men". The four of you together made your podcast so real and homemade. Thank you all again!!!
THANK YOU so much for this amazing interview. I used to follow the Mountain Men and Tom and Nancy were my favorites. I haven't thought of them in years and what a wonderful thrill it was to see and hear them again. Your interaction with them was, by far, a most intelligent and meaningful experience. I was rivetted to every word and found it hard to believe it was close to an hour long. Time stood still. What a wonderful insight and inspiration I gained from this conversation. Right off the Richter scale. God bless you all, so much.
Wow! Awesome interview! I can see how they could be an inspiration. Wonderful memories! Thank you.❤
What a pleasure to hear this podcast! Such a lovely couple. I’ve watch almost every show of Mountain Men just to see them. Thank you for sharing! Eli seemed so knowledgeable about bull riding and that made me more excited!

Excellent! I’ve been a fan of the Oars for years.
I enjoyed this interview so much. My husband has a cousin in Libby so we have traveled on the Yaak many times. I always have enjoyed Tom and Nancy. You two are the best!
I was blessed living in the country as a child. To this day I miss it. Some birds you just don't hear in the city or small town.
We lived on 73 acres with a lake . Around that was woods, farmland. You can't beat that.
Oh my gosh, they only lived a half an hour from where I grew up lived there for 40 years of my life , spent many days in Pecatonica as my aunt Yuvawn and uncle Raymond lived out that way
now we live in middle Tennessee
Wow
How cool !!!
I bet we have family / friends who know them
Lovely chat with Tom and Nancy. I have no idea (living in Australia) who they are but they are so genuine and have had a great life together. ❤
I have watched every episode of Mountain Men. What a good life Tom and Nancy have. Nice to know they are real people and not actors. Lol. I live in Spokane so I know how beautiful the country from Sandpoint to Troy is. I just turned 70 and have not felt old yet either. Well maybe just a little.😂
Love this interview ! Tom & Nancy with all together You together is Amazing !!! Thank You ! 💫🙏💫
That is so cool you're able to hang out with them even if it was for a short time. Watching you guys and also that TV show especially them to I keep on pushing my fiance to move closer to the mountains and be more happier.
