Im sorry here, but SO relieved to find out young men store & save too!! I thought us old ladies were the only ones who still do that! Lol. You youngins are so adorable!
Due to the fact that I’m moving, I saved too much. But I come from the air that you didn’t throw things away just because you didn’t use them for two or three months.
Ya I'm seeing the podcast now,and I say all three of you men have major projects on right now, AL doing big barn building,Ben building a house,And Jason building high tunnel and pulling fence, clearing land, and I must say that brush mower is so cool. You're three of the busiest men I no.and all of you work so hard on your property its refreshing to know we still have hard working men in our world. Hats off to y'all the projects y'all take on are crew worthy and you do them solo.👏👏👏 just be careful out there.and keep sharing, I love watching y'all.
I love the fence building its like a comic with your input. And the chicken addition to the barn is like a high detective novel waiting for each post, The trailer overhaul was sure quick maybe you will be inundated with friends for this as soon as you get it framed Ben. Who could pass up all this high tension like women soaps... lol Thanks for your friendship a lady alone (my dear husband went to heaven this summer and I need friends). Have great day.
Jason, keep your videos coming. I enjoy them. I wouldn’t worry about showing us the fence build being boring because your humor is enough to keep us entertained. Al is been showing us the same stuff and he has viewers that keep coming back. And let Ben know I really love his videos too.
On my retirement home I will have a stationary coop. I have a number of existing buildings which one is being converted for chickens, another for rabbits, etc. because I already have balance issues and I don't anticipate becoming stronger with age so there would be a good chance of me having a misstep and falling while trying to move a chicken tractor. I should be able to handle a stationary coop for much longer. Jason, on the fence videos, it would be great for a step by step tutorial video which you might be able to edit from what you already have. You could start by introducing all the tools you are going to use, go over how many and which supplies you will need for like 100 feet (easier for novices to calculate what they need). You could then show digging only 2-3 holes, move on to putting in your poles and the steps needed. Then finish with hanging the wire between those poles tightening, how much space between, etc. and end up with troubleshooting info. It would be great for those of us who will need to put in fencing in the future and 5 years from now it would still be pulling in steady views which will probably have higher numbers than the more casual fencing videos you currently put out which are great also. Just my unsolicited and probably unwanted opinion. Enjoy your show. Squirreling is the sign of a good gardener. You could grow enough in your garden to eat from it while in season. Most homesteader types grow more than they need for fresh eating so they can squirrel away by preserving so they have food in the off season. Keeping all the scraps can save you money and time in the future even though you have no idea when you will need it. The tough part is developing the best organizational system so things don't get lost. Watch the old Charlton Heston movie called, "Soylent Green.". It was about a new food product to eliminate starvation which they said was created by soy but they were actually recycling humans. A movie before it's time.
I Rember when we had an 8 party line so you had 7 other neighbors on the same line and you always had a nosey neighbor picking up and listening to your combersation
Jason, I like watching the fence installation. I need the repetition of the process for it to stick. We are putting in perimeter deer fence then chicken yard fence and garden fence. Whatever challenges you encounter, our attention is riveted! Spring is junk removal time. We’re all guilty of hoarding stuff. Y’all have a better excuse than I do. God bless each of you and yours.
I’m with Al, what my husband saves as scrap wood from wood working ends up in our wood stove at the beginning and end of our burning season! My husband also hits up the garage sales for hardware such as bolts, hinges and cabinet hardware! I figure he knows what he needs! But I think he is running out of space in our very large barn! I know he does get overwhelmed by stuff in the barn! My seed starting lights become shop lights after I plant things out! If and when we downsize we will have our work cut out for us! Sad to say I still remember letters in my parent’s phone number! You guys are not old 😂
Love this channel! You guys touch on some great subjects, and have fun doing so. Some podcasts put me to sleep, but you guys keep me smiling and share great information.
If you cut the bottom off of the gallon jugs you can use them to cover your plants (one per plant) and that will protect from frost or freezing both inside and out. That's what we did on our vegetable farm when I was a kid to protect our transplanted plants from frost.
Ben, get the girls out there to help with the fence. I really like to watch Ben's baby girl to help her mama and Daddy. I notice that the boys let her help and are so kind to little sister. Now Al well his Gina is amazing to watch with that big saw but would love to see his little daughter in the video's. Al, I liked watching the container build and wonder what it is used for now. I noticed the Louisiana Bald Cypress has a distinctive green haze to the branches today. Thanks for peaceful channels where I can forget to turmoil of the world and the foolishness of seeing Just Parades, festivals, crime info and car jackings on the afternoon Bias news in South Louisiana.
We squirrel stuff away now because there so much talk about preparedness . But also when I was little my uncle was shell shot. Ww2 language. He walked everywhere looking at the ground and I would walk with him. He picked up every screw, nail, washer he would say someday I’ll need this. Always looking for treasure he called it. We develop habits lol
Old freezer: broken down ones are wanted to store grain and such in to keep rodents out. If it's in good shape, a good cleaning may be all it needs, the outdoor is just the water sludge.
I visited a farm here in Oregon and their barn had trap doors in the animal stalls so you could sweep the waist and hay into it and it would fall into a hay wagon.
The freezer was probably never used. Many farms use old broken freezers to store feed/treats/etc. They are perfect rodent proof containers to keep such things.
Hey guys maybe this will make you feel better. I remember phone numbers before they had 7 digits and I do remember my grandmother's phone number. Again a great pod cast.
telephone numbers in the mid 50's started with the first two letters of several different words like BLackburn, CHerry, CRestwood (2,5- 2,4 and 2,7 ) then the last 5 numbers. I guess they thought it was easier for the seniors to remember. In the 60's, people had both Color and Black and White with glass (?fuses) that could be manually changed when they blew up or popped.
Omg the Friday,Saturday before Super Bowl grocery stores were ridiculous but for me we do watch the game and I like to prepare early so whatever I had on the menu that day I made sure I had it ready so I didn’t have to go out that Friday Saturday. I made it I made it I always do whatever is holiday or if we’re inside because of a really bad cold storm and weather ,whatever I make sure that the week that they tell the city you stay in I’ve already prepared my house for Everything 🛒🛒🛒🛒 I actually like the commercials, the best
I used to know like 20 phone numbers. Now, i still remember more of those numbers than the numbers i need today. Wow... like I know my number and my daughter's today. Total of 2 current numbers😂
Great video gentlemen. Love the updates and topic discussions. Jason, I had to laugh when you were talking about fencing. Just the other day I clicked on your channel to see what your latest video was and guess what, it was about fencing. LOL Ben, I smiled when Jason talked about the freezer. I was watching his video and when he talked about taking it to the trash I immediately thought that he should contact you. I figured you could use it or make it into something. LOL
Jason you have so many barns to store stuff just have to store in a designed storage system. as for lead ingots they are valuable for a guy making jigheads or fishing weights or for dive weight belts.
As a Veteran I shop at Lowes a lot, I just got an email the other day that the same is happening now with our Veteran discount that we earn points to us at lowes and still get our discount. As a woman i always park in the Pro are if i need lumber lol I am a Pro Woman home fixer upper so why not !
yep back in the 60's i would pick up the phone and the operator would pick up. "ok you need me to connect you to your nannie? yes please... my nannie (grandmother) would pick up such an amazing time error
When I started watching your first podcast, I really enjoyed it that now I went ahead and signed up and pay for premium channel TH-cam so I don’t get no commercials and man that is the best thing so if I’m watching y’all or somebody else about trees or pear trees, or trimmings or something I just love that I have no commercials you know I know you can skip the commercials, but this one is perfect and I did Also get the movies from the TH-cam so I can watch movies without commercials. I end up decluttering a lot of the other apps that I have. I think they were a waste. I think TH-cam is beneficial in a lot of ways. I actually got my brother hooked in it I don’t know if he’s doing commercial free as well. He told me he was… we’re going to get one more cold snap I’m hearing at the end or in a couple of weeks so I’ll probably have to bring my peppers back in when I just started taking them out oh and the big pruning I did to my pear tree was successful cause I see blossoms coming out 🍐
I have a huge metal shed my mom bought from Craig list in the 80s…she thought he would make a taco hut …oh and she had to travel in the country to pick it up in pieces..and bring in back in a trailer and then have all my brothers rebuild it ..with this thick super big screw s like industrial size..and he put in on a cement slap., Well now it hold junk or stuff we holding..in my back yard 🤷🏼♀️
That lab grown 'meat'.... I wonder if that old fridge has anything floating in it to grow some from it? LOL Just messing, I'm sure a good power washing and some bleach, and the fridge would be perfectly fine. You guys are awesome. Great episode.
Consider the jobs and projects you know you are going to do or plan to do, then save usable junk according. Consider value or repurpose value for resale. Those lead weights can be sold for fishing sinkers or bullets to people who make their own for resale. One year limit on things that rot like wood unless you are setup to produce items for resale for profit for your homestead.
Memorial Day is end of May. They both begin with M. Labor Day is end of August..think about how much you have Labored all summer. Ways to remember! Al totally missed your pun Ben….lol
I am a "pay as you go" guy - but I use credit cards regularly and pay them in full each month. I signed up for a Lowes Pro account and took their credit card. You pretty much get 5% off of EVERYTHING when you use the Lowes credit card, so I do that. If you are buying more than $1500 of stuff, you can ask that they quote you a contractor's price, which will generally save you about 9%. I used to shop at Tractor Supply, but decided that since they fund events that are not in keeping with my values, I can no longer do business with them. It's your call, but if you want to preserve your values, don't do business with folks that do not support your values. Take care and God Bless.
I don’t have acres of Homestead I do have a lot of properties and my house is connected to one of my properties and in the back we store a lot I feel sometimes it’s junk but then I say I’m gonna keep it but really little by little we have been getting rid of stuff or trying to utilize it in somewhere another I live in the city so one of my houses had tons of burglars bars ,that we were removed so I have these bars now a few I have sold to scrap and made some money but I still have a few that I don’t know what I’m gonna do with yet. I’ve tried to sell them on Facebook marketplace but everybody You know once a specific size or something so I still have them. I’m thinking later on like soon, I will end up, scrapping them at the junkyard and make a few bucks. 💰..
When we were younger..we used to do so much hubby and I..he added a home to our house then.. He used to build all kinds of things ..shelves..and so much ..but I totally messed up my hand .,and my love is ill.,we have to hirer out ..small things real small things we can do . We will be replacing my mailbox stand outside ..,because I wanna move it closer so I can see in my camera.. there’s been a lot of people stealing things from the mailbox and if it’s in view of my camera when the lady comes or the man comes, the male person, my ring will probably go off and I’ll be able to go out sooner then let it sit there. We do get a lot of medicine through the mail. I need to move it I can see it better the mailbox holder. The wood post is rotten so we’re just gonna have to buy another one. I looked them up from Home Depot I think they’re like $23 good deal this one last 22 years so it’s time I’ll probably paint it with some color just to be cute. I got a flower pot on the other one over, I got an onion in that flower pot to tell the truth ..lol 🧅
before you make your final choice of meat breeds you might want to watch the Sow the Land video (TASTE TEST) Freedom ranger vs. Cornish Cross CHICKEN CHALLENGE
Back in the day70s or 80s I'm not sure what year There was a movie called soylent green In this movie Would let you live to a certain age Then you would be given a party And then sent to the factory where they made you into feud for the rest of the rest of the humans
Fencing around here is pretty much ten to twelve foot spacing but only a rule of thumb. Could be eight feet is the original posts are at sixteen feet so one in the middle or it might be thirteen or fourteen it that is what it takes to fill the gap. Point is only a rule of thumb not a firm set guideline. Lots of sixteen foot gates taken out so you get the eight foot posts. If your posts are thirty foot, I would add two but if 25 foot I would add one. But that is for the wire you are using. Barb wire I would go closer but that stuff you are using is stiff.
Bhahaha yup age My husband wants to save EVERYTHING!!.,No No.. since we’re starting to paint all the rooms in the house since last year of January, we have been decluttering every room and I also been storing so I collect antiques that were my grandmothers and my mothers and then I’ve been gifted a few things I do antiques estate sales things like that but there’s still a whole lot that I can get rid of. I just gotta go through it so my husband‘s like I’ll go with you I said no no no because he’ll wanna throw things away that I don’t wanna throw them away and what I wanna throw away he wants to keep, I’m trying to sell some old TVs are smart TV but they’re older and he doesn’t want me to sell them but I’m like we’re not we don’t need them we don’t need them every TV in this house is new now we have four TVs in this house I cook a lot so my kitchen has a TV in there so I can watch the news And this winter I haven’t done any decluttering. I have a saved boxes from people that gave me so I got a bunch of empty boxes in my storage but I haven’t done any Declutter and I need to. I mean I’m even behind on my gardening I wanted to do my potatoes, but we’re getting rain for the next couple of days and every week is just keeps me busy , we’ll see how it goes but that’s my plan too. I was trying I was doing so good I was taking a load to the church or the thrift stores and then that stopped I mean I got busy. I need to jump back on that.
I don't think people are tired of the fence building per se, it's that you keep talking negatively about it and apologizing about it to the people watching the fence building--any negativity puts people off. It's like you're telling them they're stupid or something if they like the fence building so they quit.
I just KNEW Al was going to figure out a way to get a tractor in that barn to clean things up. 😅 👍 Yup on our Bronze Medallion Tom Turkey. It got WAY too big and we needed a Sawzall to get it in the oven. We said.."never again".. UNTIL we ate it. 😅Mmmmm. 🦃
I was raised by parents who grew up during the Depression. They didn’t have the money to buy new.
My nephew once asked me if they had colors when I was a little boy. All of our pictures were in black and white.
Ya I'm seeing the podcast now,and I say all three of you men have major projects on right now, AL doing big barn building,Ben building a house,And Jason building high tunnel and pulling fence, clearing land, and I must say that brush mower is so cool. I watch all of You guys. Juist love seeing you all talking together. This video was just great. Thanks so much.

I look forward to these episodes/podcasts all week long!
You three should stagger your videos so us viewers have awesome content to watch every day of the week.
Al ,Ben & Jason ,We love listening to your Podcast and we follow your family channels 😊
It's great that you have a subject every week, but just know that the conversations, even off topic, are the best!
Jason, I will watch you work on your fence as long as it takes. I enjoy your videos.
Me too❤
Same.. Love Watching Jason @SowtheLand his big funny smiles crack me up....
I Rember when we had an 8 party line so you had 7 other neighbors on the same line and you always had a nosey neighbor picking up and listening to your combersation
No, Jason, not tired of fence building!!! Especially when you add Lorraine's dinner at the end!!
I work for Frito lay as a merchandising and super bowl is the busiest day of year for sales
The more you build, the more tools you neeed. Win,win.
Laughing out loud when y’all were discussing turkeys. Great show! Keep it up.
Happy Mother’s Day to the wives!!!
ONLY podcast that I have the patience to listen to !
Old freezers are a great place to store feed if you keep them covered. Mouseproof and dry...
Memorial Day is in may too.
You guys are not old 😂
Ben... have you thought about a lean-to situation on the backside of the barn by the pig pens??? Might be able to store stuff there
A lean-to would be a cheap build
It comes down to seeing the value when you use that first saved item 😊
Love this channel! You guys touch on some great subjects, and have fun doing so. Some podcasts put me to sleep, but you guys keep me smiling and share great information.
If you cut the bottom off of the gallon jugs you can use them to cover your plants (one per plant) and that will protect from frost or freezing both inside and out. That's what we did on our vegetable farm when I was a kid to protect our transplanted plants from frost.

The fencing I’ve done for our cattle /hay fields have a wood post every 50’ and T posts 10’ on center but we are also 7 strands of barbed wire
Like the new border effect with your podcast. Looks slick. 👍
i remember when we didn't even have to dial the 3 digit extension... 4 numbers were all you needed.
Al! You can go into the editor and save any frame as a photo

Curious to know if you will all talk about how you purchased your properties.
I have a sixteen foot trailer full to go to the dump right now.
LUV your videos you guys are great
Been there done that Al, mine dressed out at 58 pounds. Yes, had to cut in half to put in oven. Too funny.
Jason, your wood stall, you should stack it like home depot instead of leaning against the walls. Not shelves, but triangle bracers? Just a thought 😁
For cardboard amazon has a heavy duty paper shredder that works awesome on cardboard! -Mike
Planting in New Hampshire starts after Memorial Day usually the 1st week of June:) OH HOW I MISS NEW HAMPSHIRE:(
I 💕you guys and your wives.
You just have to figure out how to organize the junk that you'd like to keep!!! You won't always be so busy!
The freezer could be used to store feed in to keep mice etc out.
How about cardboad boxes? I can't throw them out.," I might need them to ship something or we may move". We have lived here since 1972.
yep back in the 60's i would pick up the phone and the operator would pick up. "ok you need me to connect you to your nannie? yes please... my nannie (grandmother) would pick up such an amazing time error
That scrap metal and wood is good for a forge lesson with the kids? Cutting knives etc. you guys are inspiring keep up the good work 👍

time to look at my junk pile . 😄
That lab grown 'meat'.... I wonder if that old fridge has anything floating in it to grow some from it?
LOL
Just messing, I'm sure a good power washing and some bleach, and the fridge would be perfectly fine.
You guys are awesome.
Great episode.
When I was a kid in the 60s in Sandy Oregon our phone☎️ number was 7-2506, yup, I have to admit I'm old. Thanks to all of you.
You most certainly can dial an area code on a dial phone.
Jason, you should charge your viewers to come help you make fence.
OMG Al, I do the same thing! During big TV sports games I go to the grocery store. 😂
if you don't have enough t-posts predators can come under pretty easily
So Menards isn't on the east coast. The lumber is so much better than the others.

walk men boom box omg i feel soooooo old lmao
In Chicago area we have 7 local area codes now
I would wait on the t-post Jason, you may never need them with your new fencing.
Memorial Day is end of May. They both begin with M. Labor Day is end of August..think about how much you have Labored all summer. Ways to remember! Al totally missed your pun Ben….lol

I’ve tried to sell them on Facebook marketplace but everybody You know once a specific size or something so I still have them. I’m thinking later on like soon, I will end up, scrapping them at the junkyard and make a few bucks. 💰..
certain age does not cause saving thing. Its knowledge that we may need that...
❤❤❤❤❤❤
Yeah, but do you guys remember when there was no internet? :) Or, at least, you have to remember dial up modems :)
Or give the junk to Cowboy! :)
No Jason everything you guys do is great don't stop please
Hello guys I watch all your channels 😂😂 Al what you doing with that grey beard? Its getting out of hand young man lol 😂
Call waiting? How about party lines?
Men save scrap metal, wood etc. Women save fabric scraps. Same diference
before you make your final choice of meat breeds you might want to watch the Sow the Land video (TASTE TEST) Freedom ranger vs.
Bhahaha yup age
My husband wants to save EVERYTHING!!.,No No.. since we’re starting to paint all the rooms in the house since last year of January, we have been decluttering every room and I also been storing so I collect antiques that were my grandmothers and my mothers and then I’ve been gifted a few things I do antiques estate sales things like that but there’s still a whole lot that I can get rid of. I just gotta go through it so my husband‘s like I’ll go with you I said no no no because he’ll wanna throw things away that I don’t wanna throw them away and what I wanna throw away he wants to keep, I’m trying to sell some old TVs are smart TV but they’re older and he doesn’t want me to sell them but I’m like we’re not we don’t need them we don’t need them every TV in this house is new now we have four TVs in this house I cook a lot so my kitchen has a TV in there so I can watch the news
And this winter I haven’t done any decluttering.
Jason, I saw another @ProHomeCooks vid clip of @sowtheland recently. Are you and he collaborating? He obviously admires your channel. 🍆🌱🥦
