I know I will get flamed for this, but how are you supposed to create a maze when the game auto-directs the mobs to path of least resistance? My understanding of “mazes” is that they have false paths, which are irrelevant when the computer will automatically path them to the shortest route.

and not use ANY buff spots, no slowing towers, then give arcane boost or coin boost to towers NOT on a buff spot.. he'll get the hang of it after a few more.
He definitely got WAY better by the end of the video though

I love the depth this game has. You can focus one path to thin the waves out, just bunch all of them together and blow them up at once. I also love how you can always do everything, you can even spend money you get mid waves for powers. I can see this game being really really difficult and really really fun at higher difficulties. Really cannot state how much I cant wait to see more
first 2 shapes down and the path is exactly two blocks longer, you love to see it

Kinda funny how many gifted kids grew up into adults that don’t seem to have NL’s informed viewpoint on what tends to happen to “gifted” kids when they get older….
In high school I aced AP Calculus. In college I started *tutoring* calculus and realized I didn’t understand the subject at all, I was just a reliable little monkey at doing derivatives and integrals. I needed to do a lot of close reading and thinking to understand why calculus was actually true, and not just a little math game you play to get college credits.
I think in most cases “giftedness” is about kids who have a temperament (and a few shallow cognitive skills) for doing academic work without getting bored or tired. Not an unimportant trait but hardly a “gift,” especially since most kids can be trained in that stuff. It’s certainly not “intelligence”! A lot of smart kids understand school is dumb and refuse to do the work out of sheer cynicism.
@@mitchellhoward3209 There are gifted kids, but he's not talking to them. They actually learn how to work hard. He's talking to "gifted" kids who were told they were smart and excelled without effort until university when real education began.
NL is the reason this game is so easy.
you can basically beat it by just not even mazing and just spamming towers because the devs knew that individuals with spatial reasoning on the level of a toddler would be playing it
great game though, looking forward to the pogs when NL finally figures out how mazing works and when the devs add higher difficulties
the first 10min really had that commercial vibe where someone plays a game horrible wrong and you want to do it the way its supposed to

I had to stop 20 minutes in for the exact reason that top comment listed. Man needs to learn the difference between a maze and a funnel, he keeps putting the blocks along the red line like their boundaries for the enemies. Bro put them ACROSS the red lines, BLOCK their path. That is how you redirect them and force them to take a longer route aka building a maze like everyone says.
NL would absolutely not trap the Minotaur with his maze. Theseus would love/hate him.
Watching NL play this game has to be one of the most painfull experiences i had to endure this year, 10/10 would watch again

You can tell he didn't play Element TD on Warcraft 3 or any of the TDs but he didnt actually do bad! Once the difficulty goes up then the maze complexity really matters.

Idk whats better the fact that its an ongoing bit that NL has a learning curve on every game he encounters even what would be immediately obvious such as building an actual maze or the fact that he downplays this with just a random do ba do ba do ba do. Keep doin you NL its pure gold, you've nearly perfected the form of baiting your audience to play something because they think they can do it better than you. The video being tagged as clash of clans might be too much on the nose though haha.

dog there is litteraly no other way to describe what he did on the first level, he took a scenario where the enemies would have to move in a semi-circle to get to the goal and put all of his turrets on a straight line instead.

Theory: the recipe for the highest pogs per minute games are ones that cater to a hybrid of type A and type B viewers. Enough strategy to appreciate but a skill floor that is low enough for chat to argue with NL and for him to push back.

Why don't more devs do difficulty like Slay the Spire? That way everyone can enjoy a casual experience and those who want a increasing challenge can get into it.
Having mechanics be easy to learn can be tricky as a dev, since you already know all of the mechanics. It takes a lot of testing to see what is easy to grasp, and a lot of newer devs don't know how to properly test their game. There was a documentary about Valve talking about how they trained their devs to recognize how to make accessible game mechanics; you don't get casual-yet-masterable for free.
I don't know what you are talking about. Binding of Isaac, Monster Train, Hades, Roguebook - most rogue-lites you can think of have difficulty settings.
IMO it's an incredibly lame way of doing it.
There's SO MUCH wasted space. Especially when he places those 2x2s IN THE MIDDLE of a perfect 4x2 so only one of 'em fits. Infuriating... I love this man!
