Great finds!! The bannerstone would've been an unusual shape and the banding on it is really nice. Good luck!!

Hi Tom , I just enjoy your videos so much . The finds ,Awesome! Human intelligence has no boundaries. We could be thrust back into using stone tools so suddenly. Understand, I am not a " Prepper " but just a few bits of information can save my family and myself. I wish I could do what you do . Just not possible anymore. Thanks for letting me tag along . Best wishes.

You mean the whole state....LOL !! Great hunt buddy...especially for this time of year ! A real shame on the banner, but you did at least wind up with a couple whole ones. I've found a few triangles like yours in the past few years and always left me scratching my head...LOL GL next time out !

Great finds - congrats! Beautiful material with many of those points - Ohio has amazing flint. I have seen some ancient (Hopewell time frame) smelting molds for iron axe heads. Is there any chance this is that old or does iron deteriorate to quickly? thanks for another awesome video! All the best my friend!

That's a rare axe from the blacksmith feet tribe

wow fresh dirt at the end of July, that don't happen often, good seeing you taking advantage of it & good to see that spot produce some nice finds, that broken banner though, that's a day maker still broke, I can only hope one of those lays in my path one day, that green banded slate looks the same as my gorget, they say it's not local to us, where it came from? who knows? maybe the other 1/2 of your banner will show up one day.
    best wishes Tom

Thanks Mike. It's interesting how the banded slate pieces reveal their color when wet. I wonder if ancient people noticed the same thing. Yes it was really nice to find a spot to look in July. Take care.

man that field turned out to be a great spread.
    interesting style banner.
and it sure looked like a burnt up bevel at the end..but is that triangular thing polished on the bottom like a tool?
great to see you out there this time of year.

Yea, I wish I had a little more of the bannerstone to help identify. The triangle thing looks like the bottom was used instead of the tip but not exactly polished. Hmm.

Going to find lots of disappointment in a ploughed field. Are there any pictographs on them? Or maybe bird chips/Water chips.

I have a point very similar to the triangle at 7:38. An old artifact hunter in my area (Perry county, Pa.) told me long ago that it was a war point. Happy hunting my friend!!

Ryan Sheaffer I live in eastern Ky. In the Appalachian mountains and have found quite a few of these triangles also but I think my area was mostly hunting grounds.

Man....I would be as excited to metal detect those fields as I would be to walk them for arrowheads. You need a detector.....you could hit those spots all year long.

    • @commissionertom
      @commissionertom  7 ปีที่แล้ว

I did find some early looking pottery and broken dish pieces so maybe it was an old homesite. The ax head was far away from that stuff. I'll probably stop by and show it to the farmer and see what he knows about the property.

I saw you find a gun flint in a field a while ago. I found a few in a field years ago and took a metal detector back and found a bunch of musket balls. I have a Garrett Ace 400....it works great in fields like you walk. t only took me a couple days to figure out how to use it. You may even luck onto an Iron Trade Tomahawk or Some Hopewell copper. I would say some of those fields you walk have the potential for something GREAT with a detector.

When i bought my first pair of Allen Edmond's about 4 years ago now i was a bit sick to the stomach with spending $400 on shoes, never had spent that much before, then walked through a field like this looking for Arrowheads and ruined them.
