Finally! A review and demo vid! I've been getting tired of the WYRONs and "Let's go guitar shopping online with Trogly" vids. Even though I can't afford even a normal priced Gibson, I really enjoy learning about them!
Hola from Barcelona! just want to say thank you Trogly, for the lot of information gived in all your videos, the history, the specs, the presentation, the play, you put a lot of efford there, you deserve to be in the True Keepers category, well preserving history, so again, Thanks! keep on!
Good one Austin!!! I like Norlan era customs. I should say MOST Norlan era guitars. For me, this era was perhaps the most inconsistent of them all. Yes they been accused of having a lower quality, this may be true, some would argue these were the best years for Gibson. The only thing I can say about these 70’s models, you may pick one up and it’s the best experience you have ever had with a guitar. You can grab same 70’s model and it sounds as dead as 4:00. Great job again Austin.
It was worth the wait for another magnificent review of an incredible Gibson guitar. You really are the bees-knees when it comes to this stuff-Trogly's Guitar Show is in session so SHHHH!!
Yeah a collector wouldn't want me to get to it first because the best way to display this gem would be to play the crap out of it! I might get booed off stage with what I'm about to say but that little superstar would not spend her days or nights hanging around on a wall or sleeping in my closet! Front and center baby!
I like it when Trogly is explaining why the guitar is silver and he does the hand wave over the top of the guitar just like Dian Parkinson would on The Price Is Right. That was some mad trade show skills. Serious props. That guitar sure is purdy sitting in the purple lining.
That purple color in the case really makes the silver guitar pop. Makes me think a Les Paul with that silver color as the top but a deep purple back would look great.

For all the complaining about Guitar Center they have over the years commissioned some pretty nice guitars from both Gibson and Fender. Back in 2000 I purchased a GC limited run American Deluxe Quilt Top Stratocaster, its been my #1 Fender since then.
@@EarthAltar Totally agree earthaltar. Congrats, those 60th Ann. were some of the best production Strats made in 2014/15. I purchased a brand new 25th Anniversary Stratocaster back in 1979, cost was $1200. Sadly that 25th Ann. wasn't half the guitar my modern Am Dlx turned out to be. I'd like to add the Tobacco Burst on those 60th Ann. are very beautiful, to my eyes not like the normal tobacco burst at all, much, much nicer.
@@hkguitar1984 Thanks. They're pretty rare in that year (2014) as the ash body and finish were both package upgrades. Especially with a maple fingerboard. The rosewood necks come up a little more frequently, but I prefer maple on a Strat. Had a line on one in 2015, but the seller backed out at the last minute. Took two years until I found another. Got it for a song at $1,200.00, and it's probably the nicest playing guitar I've ever picked up in almost 40 years of playing.
So a very good friend of mine bought one of these new from Guitar Center's downtown San Jose (now closed) location in 1978 and he still has it. I haven't seen it for something like 10-15 years but it was still very bright silver then. I think that is due to him not taking it out of the case very often, he's more of a Fender guy...................
I have always played squiers and I got myself a DeArmond m-65c to see how I felt about the les paul body and sound and I fell in love so I found me a 2014 lpj pro and love it. Simply but still a les paul mahogany and maple top no binding but I love it.
Hey Trogly... Have you put your hands on the Epiphone Limited Edition Les Paul Tribute Plus? I just ordered one and I'm really excited about the Gibson Humbuckers. Was interested in your thoughts...
My ex father in-law has 2 Les Paul silver tops. I was talking guitars with him, and I mentioned silver tops, so he went into his office and walked out with 2 guitars. One looks brand new, and one has a bunch of the silver rubbed off from playing it. It was one of his main gigging guitars. (From '69 to '84, his job title was "guitarist".)
It's very pretty - something about the silver color with chrome hardware. Very nice! I very nearly bought a silverburst when I was 16 years old from a store near the University of Minnesota and for some reason I wasn't sure if the color would stay the way it was that day. I didn't get it and I guess you proved the color does shift significantly. But this silver one, wow. I wondered if the shifted color silverburst resided in the home of a smoker or something like that.
A real treat of a review. The last time I saw a clean one like the silver one was when they came out and were offered at Guitar Center in downtown San Diego. Another nice memory from my youth. :-) BTW, I was really surprised how much the color changed on the other example.
Can't you get your hands on a 1988 Les Paul Showcase Edition Silverburst????..... Literally the only Silverburst Standard ever made, and w Ebony Fingerboard! The most beautiful Silver finish Gibson ever did. Great Vid, stay groovy!
Interesting, I’m working on my ‘Gibson Les Paul 1969-1990 reissue stock knob list and I have a new entry. 1977 anniversary silver custom - reflector top hat
Now this is the Trogly's Guitar show channel I love!! Really cool and rare vintage Gibson's! I know I am the oddball but I hate the way the silver and even other colors like white age!! Look how beautiful that guitar is in that silver compared to that "dang, did it live next to a cigar bar" yellowed one!!
Please get a Deluxe Telecaster (even cooler if you manage to find the black dove or something else with p90s). Would be awesome to see your opinions on one!
Is the 25th year deluxe 77 model of any value in cherry burst? I have one,for bout 30 years.I had to put a bigsby whammy on it.Hope I didn't devalue it to much.
Cool video. But I always figured that Gibson's Silver burst was a reaction to Fender's Antigua; along the lines of "Let's show them how to burst some silver."
That 1977 Custom is beautiful. I've been hammering away at Gibson fro screwing me over the last 4 years. But, I will give it a rest today. Because I LOVE silver / gray Les Pauls.
Gibson's UK arm also did a silver anniversary in 1977 for both the Les Paul and the Queen's anniversary. This was a silver standard with either P90s or Delux pickups. However they made less than 10 as dealers didn't want to take them due to most of their customers being anti royal. The only one I've seen was very yellowed and had P90s.
I love how you're improving on your playing through all this reviews realy not a lespaul guy but somehow you always convince me i'm wrong and maybe I'd get one one day
How does the timeline make sense for no paint in the routes? They paint the guitar and then route it? I would assume it is routed before the top is put on
Glad to see the '82 30th Anniversary Gold Top finally got a mention, however brief...Austin seems to give those guitars the short shrift...I don't know why, they're outstanding...I own one and they are amazing guitars, some of the last made in Kalamazoo...I will never, ever part with mine - which means I'll be buried with it, I suppose...
Oh my God I think I just found one of my new favorite guitars.I mean I'm a huge Les Paul addict as it is and I thought I owned all my favorite guitars by now if not super high-end Korean Epiphone ones but this I do not have ..considering I need a player grade 1 I'm going to have to Buy a super high-end Epiphone custom from Korea and pay a professional to refinish it in this color.. UK and get all gibson pickups & parts for it bc finding this in a good clean player's grade condition at a price 2k or less will be impossible. plz if u can find on of these for under 2k plz post it somewhere as I follow u everywhere. I'll see it.
I feel like my 1989 is the 30th anniversary guitar...now its 30+ yrs old …I'm like sheesh …even my guitar is old school. I changed out the bill Lawrence "the original" pickups to vintage T-top's when one fell apart taking the cover off, dont take the cover off those they are held in by 2-way tape and soldered, the tape will pull apart the top of the plastic of the pickup…but love the T-top's sound ...edit they should've added the long tail piece and welded to the stop tail ...for the 50's looks …and might do that to mine
The guitar is wired LP modern using a pot plate but without the tailpiece ground. If you add the tailpiece ground you can remove the can covers if still present on the guitar. The Z5U ceramic tone capacitors are horrible.
Hey Austin, have you ever purchased or at least held/played a Les Paul that was actually owned or played by Les himself? How much would such a guitar be worth if it could be proven to one of his or one he played?
My brother was a gifted musician since age 6. When he was 11, when we lived in Santa Clarita, our parents drove down to guitar center in Hollywood and got my brother this guitar for his birthday. Beautiful guitar, has the "25th anniversary" tailpiece and my mom was livid at guitar center because the les Paul engraving was reallllly rough. She accused them of forging his signature lol. If anyone is interested, my mother is selling it at auction in July. Farnsworth auction in Medina Ohio. His guitars were supposed to go to me, the lone heir upon mom's death but she's evil and decided to sell my inheritance and give the money to cat charities. Anyhoo if you want it go grab it
I had one I bought new in 1977 from GC San Francisco on Van Ness It was the chrome version. It had no signature and the tail piece did not have the engraved tail piece.
Hey! Just talked to Erik from Sweetwater. He told me you were actually his client. Which I thought was pretty cool. Cause he asked me how I heard about sweet water and I said I watch your channel and you talk about sweet water sometimes. I really like your channel my man. I hope Sweetwater does more stuff with you.
I like this one in solid silver, I've never liked the silver burst.
Same here, the silver burst has always looked cheesy to me but the silver is 👍
that would hurt Adam jones feelings
i do appreciate the Silverburst, but honestly prefer just pure Silver
I like anything he talks about
Agree. Silver burst does nothing for me.
I like silverburst, but I this solid silver has a beauty all its own.
I used to have a 25/50 in "tobacco burst" that was one of the best sounding Les Pauls that I ever had. Those pickups were unbelievable!!!!!
Finally! A review and demo vid! I've been getting tired of the WYRONs and "Let's go guitar shopping online with Trogly" vids. Even though I can't afford even a normal priced Gibson, I really enjoy learning about them!
I want to get to that point in my life where I can buy two seventies Les Paul Customs just to compare how the finish has faded/aged between them.
And he will sell them both for profit 📈
you're almost at that point you just need to focus on it and you can do it.
well not hard when you do resell. obviously they were gone before video was out
This one's a real beauty. Not a huge fan of 25/50s, but I'd definitely be interested in one of these
I’m the inverse of this ... but the silver looks OK. Prefer more contrast; love the silver burst.
I’d be interested to see this finish on other models, like a Silver V, Explorer or Firebird (Silverbird?)
Don't worry, you'll never see one.
How does a 1 of 50 Special Run 1980 Gold Les Paul get a "Second" stamped into the back of its headstock❓❓❓
Do the snake pit story 🐍
Great content! I’m 56 which means I was 10 in 75’. What a time to be a kid.
What do you use to clean/polish the fingerboard? I have a rosewood fingerboard on my 1961 Fender and it could use a shine...
I have one of these in excellent condition. Tail piece correct and Les Paul on the pick guard.
Very cool! Feel free to reach out via email if it comes time to sell
Where are you please?
That Road Dog 25 is a beauty. So gorgeous.
your playing is getting better my friend! great episode and nice tones...

Hey Trogly, when documenting, do you check what value the capacitors are? If so what value are the solid silver equipped with?
what kind of amp are you playing through? This one as a well-balanced tone for what you would expect.

Well atleast I got the joke
