I love your comment and completely agree! The only thing I wonder is....does his boy hate fishing after years of his old man pulling every fish out of the river while he's only getting the occasional fish?! LOL If that is the case, his son will appreciate it as time goes on.

He doesn't seem to be to interested in fishing lol, kinda like when my dad used to make me practice basketball even though I only wanted to play baseball. But it was quality family time looking back on it now.

Love your channel! Your genuine, sincere and funny as all get out. To me, you represent ALL the everyday "average Joes" that love fishing and can't afford big $$ set ups with LIVEscope or a 60k boat. Every other guy put'n a fishing channel together have set ups/equipment 95% of their viewers could never afford. You make the show special and different from the rest of the herd. Wooo!! Woooooo!!! Wooooooooooooo!!!! Again, love the show and God Bless.

I really cant stand the channels with guys only fishing with rod and reel for 1K $ and a boat for at least 30K. A normal guy really has to work for his stuff, if you have a family it will even cost you more work that you have to put in.

As always, great video Mr. Richard. I had to cancel having my son, 14 years old, for the summer due to the pandemic and everything else going on for his safety (most important thing as a Dad, obviously). And seeing you with your son, doing what I hoped to do with mine this summer, well, I teared up a bit. It was really cool to see you guys fishing and just hanging out. These are the times that memories are better than all else. I've been here since 93k subscribers and am hooked! Keep it up guys! Love the content!

Everything about your videos is a positive message and that is not an easy thing to find these days. Not saying everyone is negative, but it leaks into channels little by little, usually due to the sway of a sponsor or two and it drains the authenticity out of it for me. Beautiful scenery, top notch instruction and genuine human emotion and humor... What more could we ask the Gene family for? All the best to you and your family and may God continue to Bless us with your content!

About 5 years ago, the lake I fish had an amazing year for topwater action. Fish were suspended even in very deep water and herding shad to the surface. Something I noticed on a lot of largemouth bass I hooked is that I was hooking them in the side of the face and even in the body. What it appeared to mean is that the fish were slamming into the shad with their body in an attempt to stun it, and then eat it.

Great video richard, I too have been using the whopper plopper and even long before there were any videos out. The slow steady reel is a great method, I can also highly recommend a different method and that is lifting the rod up to get that flutter then reel in the excess slack. I have lost a fish once or twice due to not being able to hookset in time, but find the consistency of hitting is far greater.

Had a Zara Spook get caught all up in my hand. Deep in the meat. I caught a feisty Stripped Bass (they are incredibly strong and have a mean attitude even in the net.) upon releasing said bass she shook and the hooks engaged my hand ant the weight of the fish drove them deep. Fish was released and won that battle. It was a painful endeavor and bled like crazy. I sat in the ER for almost 4 hours before I could be seen. I’ve used barbless hooks ever since. Those hooks that come with the wopper P are sharp sticky bastards. Loved the video, 2 years late. 💯

I love whopper ploppers. I barely ever use any other lure based on the water and time of year I fish. But the way the hooks basically tangle whatever you are setting it on really makes me hooks shy. I buried a crankbait straight down into my pinky past the barb a year ago and have been hook shy ever since.

I guess you buddy didn't want to change to a darker plug like you had. Would have liked to see him catch a couple. 😊

Caught me a 5 - 5.5 lb bass usin one of these things! They work great.
To avoid the deal with the back hook catching fish in the chin, sizing up seems to help. I throw a 130, huge lure, but my hooks are almost always real easy to get out. I'm in Minnesota though so we got lots of Pike and Muskie, and they love these things too. Standard to throw them on a steel leader for me, not trying to lose a 20 dollar lure to a bite off!
