Ingredients
200 g (7 oz) plain flour
200 g (7 oz) unsalted butter or margarine, softened
200 g (7 oz) sugar (brown is best for flavour)
200 g (7 oz) currants
200 g (7 oz) sultanas
200 g (7 oz) raisins
100 g (3½ oz) glacé cherries, halved
50 g (2 oz) candied (mixed) peel
4 eggs
Grated zest of 1 lemon
1½ tsp mixed spice
½ tsp cinnamon
½ tsp nutmeg
½ tsp salt
Optional extras
150 g (5 oz) dried cranberries
50 g (2 oz) flaked almonds
50 g (2 oz) ground almonds
½ tsp almond essence
Instructions
Preheat oven to 150°C.
Cream together the butter and the sugar.
Add the eggs one at a time with a tbsp of the flour. Beat the mixture well between each egg added.
Seive in the flour, spices and salt. Add the lemon zest, almond extract and the ground almonds. Beat well.
Mix together all the dried fruit and nuts in a large bowl. Add the mixed fruit into the cake mixture and stir well.
Grease an 8″ (20 cm) cake tin and line with baking paper. Pour the mixture into the tin. (For a 10″ cake tin you will need help!)
Press the mixture down well and smooth the surface with the back of a spoon. Bake in the middle of the oven at 150°C for 2-2½ hours.
After 2 hours check the cake with a skewer. If the skewer comes out clean, your cake is done!
Allow to cool on a wire rack before removing from the cake tin.
Titli’s Tips
Use a cake tin with a pop-up bottom or a springform tin - it’s so much easier to get the cake out of the tin!
For a 10″ cake bake at 150°C for 1½ hours, the turn the oven temperature down to 140°C and cook for no more than an extra 1½ hours.
anyone watching this lady again, wondering where she went and what happened to the busy kitchen
hi titli just to say thanks,i,m 58yr old male never baked before in my life.thought i would try your recipe ended up making 9 cakes. everybody who tried my first wanted one making.
Good for you! :-D
A lot of Christmas cake making seems to involve alcohol, so I'm excited to see your alcohol free options! :)
My mum would always soak the fruit before putting it in the cake. She used to use brandy or sherry but we found out tea works just as well.
When I was a kid we used to even have a Christmas tree put in our house as my younger brother who is Autistic used to ask so many questions as to why what eh sees in school doesn’t get celebrated in the house. We used to regardless of Eids used to have a big Christmas as well, but it doesn’t made any of us Christian. Every religion shares the same message which is love and peace so please people just because Titli made a cake stop judging her. Love and peace to all!
I just made this cake for the first time. I started a week ago making my own mixed peel, your recipe, and candied cherries. the batter smelled so good I tried some, oh my goodness!!!! wonderful!! thank you soooo much for all of your hard work.
I love you Titlis and your baking is superb.
Thanks titli! I made this cake for my family and friends at Christmas and they thoroughly enjoyed it! Owe it all to you!
Well said. The world would be a better place if more people had your attitude.
Every year i follow your recipe best xmas cake ever x
I made your cake for the first time and it was a hit with everyone! I made it with rum and left it unfrosted. Thanks!
ThANK YOU DEAREST TITLII. i made last year and making this year...loved it. hugs and kisses
redone cake it's in the oven now to wait and pray. did all as in your recipie and have to say couldn't resist scraping some form the bowl and tasting it. YUMMY! and of course I made a mini one for myself! same time lol! I added 1 tsp brandy to the creamed butter mix and creamed it all in then. Thanks now the wait begins.!
O.K. Titli. Here I go making your Christmas cake for the second year and, I hope you notice, I'm starting with plenty of time ahead. Starting it in mid November last year had me frantically finishing it on Christmas eve. Wish me luck!
On a bit of a roll with your traditional Christmas recipes! I made this cake again this year but I soaked the fruit in brandy ahead of making and then fed with brandy, as we quite like the taste. Gave it about 5 or 6 weeks to mature. A really really nice cake which, just like the pudding, is probably the best we've had. On the list for next year's Christmas already. Thanks so much for posting the videos.
How much brandy did u use for soaking dry fruits ?
well im a muslim too but i've been to a christian school and alot of my friends are christian so i celebrate christmas with them. its all about love and sharing..which i think every religion preaches. luv u titli
Haha I love this vid! mad as a box of frogs you are! Tip: if you want to stop the cake doming in that way then make a circular indentation in the middle of the mixture before you put it in the oven. That way, when it rises, it will be at the same height as the sides.
Oh! I just love Christmas Cake. My grannie used to make the best. I was wondering if you were going to soak the fruit in brandy or whiskey, but I have an idea that may be next. A friend of mine wraps her cakes in cherry brandy soaked cheesecloth for about six weeks, then gifts them to some lucky people.
You are a joy! What a sense of humor!
This cake is the perfect dessert for the Christmas Holiday Season!
Thanks Titlis, your 4 part clips are very helpful. Happy holiday.
merry christmas keep up the great job i love it
thank you for sharing that with us

Titlis, you're a bit of a naughty one! It's one of the reasons (besides you being talented and funny) that I love watching your videos. You've got such a great personality. Thank you for being one of my cooking "go to" mentors.
My husband's belly thanks you as well!! ~Mrs. Shanahan
As somebody who doesn't celebrate Christmas for religious reasons:
It's just a nice family fest. Eating and having fun. Call it what you want. And "Christmas Cake" just sounds better than "Undefined Winter Holiday Cake".
brilliant wacky lady - love it!
I have to say this looks much more appetizing then Fanny Cradock's Christmas cakes! Rock on!
I will be making a Christmas cake soon, your video certainly made me laugh it's pleasant to watch and I actually didn't sign off mid way through from boredom so thumbs up from me! great stuff Merry Christmas
Nice cake batter mix really very good titli

You are an awesome and, might I say, quite charming lady :)
Titli i tried this my family love it thanks i also tried making them into cake pops but they had no raising flour (Na Duh!)
thanks for the great recipe!
That is an awesome tip for cutting the top of the cake off! :) I'm going to try that next time I bake a cake I hate having the dome bit!
Hello!!! Titli you inspired to cook even though im young i love your recipes , and you are really good of making them.I am your new subscriber!!!
Wonderful recipe i think your great 👏👏👏👏
I'm glad to see that many people "get it" :-)
I like to add dried cranberries into my cake. You can add other stuff too instead of the peel and cherries, like chopped dried apricots.
I soak my fruit in brandy overnight before adding into the batter.
Can we add the baking powder also? Thanks for posting such a wonderful recipe..
Oooh Titli you're so wonderful. I love watching your videos, always make me smile! :)
I wish u can make the video where do u put all your things. I always wonder how they looks like. Must be neat and tidy :)
Hello Titli, it's 2019 and once again I'm using your recipe - Happy Christmas!
Hi title using your recipe again last year done it it turn out beautiful this is the third am using your recipe for the Christmas cake
Hi Till. Really enjoy your easy and informative videos. Keep them coming and thanks!
Hi Titli, is the butter salted or unsalted? Thanks for the incredible recipe
Does it really matter? I'm an agnostic from a catholic family, and still celebrate Christmas....it's more about getting together then anything else...and dinner table brings us together no matter anyone's personal beliefs. It may not have religious significance for me, but that won't stop me from making dinner for everyone just cause I like seeing their happy faces...lol =) I assume it's the same among most of us.
Food, connecting people!
Thank you for detailing Mixed Spice in this video! Since it comes up from time to time, perhaps it warrants an entry into the Ingredients/Spices section of your site?
I am a muslim too , she only shared her recipie with us , we can do it anytime through out the year it doesnt mean we should not eat anything related to cristmas we only are not allowed to "belivie in it " weeeee caaaan always eat and anytime in any month if its halal :)
why didn't it need the brown paper and string tied around it like most long baked christmas cakes?
you are amaizing ?thank you i will try it in ashoraa in shaa allah. happy ashoora for you and whole the muslims in the world
Since you've converted do you still celebrate Christmas with this beautiful cake or have renamed it Winter Cake?
this looks so much better than the christmas pudding they gave us in college. they didn't tell me there was brandy in it, so I spend a night reverse eating dessert.
It's a Christmas cake, and I don't work for Birmingham City Council.
Hi Titli, I was just wondering if you have any recipes for Alcohol-free Mulled Wine or maybe some alternatives? My Mum loves Mulled Wine at Christmas but can no longer drink Alcohol due to the medication she is on for her Rhumatoid Arthritis. I don't see many recipies around TH-cam so I was wondering if you had any ideas as I know you don't drink drink Alcohol yourself . :) Thanks! I love both your cooking and gardening channels! :D
I was hungry at 2 am and there was a cake on TH-cam so I clicked on it... Of course my speakers were on and that music in the start woke up the whole house. Damn. But cake. Mmmmmm
Titli! Titli! I don' have Miles Davis CDs. How am I going to level the cake now? I miss you Titli!
I made a very similar cake for my step-daughter's wedding, but I never made the follow-up videos on feeding or decorating the cake.
Hi am going to try and make this xmas cake not done any baking before but i would love to mske this cake do i have to have the 8inch tin if i have a bigger tin do i need more ingredients
The way you trimmed it was Genius! I never thought about doing it like that myself if I had to level a cake :D Do happen to have a Tumblr?
Hi Titli, I've been wondering where you buy ground almonds? I've been looking around since I watched your recipe for Bakewell tart and I can't find any! I also heard if you grind your own it becomes almond butter... anyways I live in Canada so it'd be different from where you are, but do you go to a specialty store?
Where would I put the paper and string?
Im Muslim, but have the full Christmas dinner every year.gonna try and sneak in a christmas tree this year too.
HI TITLI!!! first things first me and my kids LOVE watching you from over here in Switzerland. I'm english born and raised till I was 8 so this recipe is abit of home for me at this time of year. BUT this is the first time I'm trying the Christmas Cake...and...this may sound silly but...without Bakingpowder AND without beating the egg whites...how does it rise???
It doesn't rise very much at all, and it's not really supposed to. The rise comes from trapped air.
Yes you can.
I like to soak the dried fruit in a bit of dark rum before adding it to the cake. ;)
Bless your heart for converting grams into ounces for some of us!
Cool!
i LOVE your innuendos
This is not "dessert" and is not meant to be eaten in one day. It's eaten in thin slices with tea or coffee in place of the normal biscuits, muffins, Mars bars, etc that a lot of people seem to have with coffee nowadays.
that looks berry nice
LOL Some ppl can be 'funny'. I'm Muslim and I love whenever Christmas comes near cause I enjoy most of their food. Log cakes, Peppermint Mocha Ice Blended, Toffee Nut Latte, or anything that taste Christmas-ey will always be my favourite...even thanksgiving food too! Come on guys, it's just food. We're not going to lose faith as long as the food is Halal and not 'shubhah', right? It's just our friend's celebration. The food is good too!
hi titli, ive never had this cake and i wonder what it tastes like?? because i don't like dried fruit
hi,,,could you please tell me what is pasteurised orange juice and what is alcohol free white wine?i its my first time to make a christmas cake and i need to do it on next week is my project in school thank you very much for your help :)
You're hilarious! And your videos are very simple to follow!
that cd trick is really useful. thanks so much
Great Recipe! Would Be Fantastic with Lots of good old holiday icing!
You are hilarious!!! I think you are great. Keep the videos coming!
christmas is for everyone, sillies!
It looks quite light in colour for a Christmas cake, but to each his (or her) own! :)
No treacle init
@@michaelreichson1280 Oh good point. My mum puts black treacle in hers. Funnily enough she was telling me at the weekend that she's making her Christmas cake this week. Perhaps you're thinking of doing the same if you're watching Christmas cake videos in late October? :)
Some people prefer to do it that way. It means you would feed your cake less.
Tea is a good option!
I use dark brown sugar and black treacle to make the cake dark and mysterious.
"Or AM I?" lololol!
Class Titli'ji, ur just hilaaarious :D, great videos x
That's an interesting use for caraway seeds. Thanks!
Is this a redo video? I think I remember seeing it a long time ago. Did you make it with your daughter or something like that? It was a loooong time ago so I may just be going crazy! Haha
I've been making xmas cake for the last 30 years or so. Of course, I use brandy. One of the few times, I use alcohol. Though not from any taboo. The brandy is used to soak the fruit overnight. In addition, I also use molasses and mixed fruit peel. In all my cake making, I've never had them curdle? I'm not even sure how that would look? I also use a stand mixer. Switching from the hand one, some years back. It has an ability to start really slowly. Long and slow, like a woman ... he heh!
I love this cake!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I could kiss you. Been craving this cake for so many years now.
looks so delicious.... walaikumassalam☺
I'll put together a Christmas playlist on Dec 1. I already have recipes for Christmas Pud, mince pies, chocolate log...
Must they be glace cherries, or can we substitute well-drained maraschinos?
yummmmmiee😝 i'm dying to eat this right now😣
I get them from my local supermarket. Can you get flaked almonds? If so just put them in a food processor.
Titli, do we have to wait a week before the next episode? :(
Hmm. Let me think about that one - it's a great idea!
Couldn't tell if I was being a tad dramatic. True story, though! "Happy Holidays, everybody! ..That's okay, right? No one's upset? Ah, good.. Jolly old England!"
Titli, i have a problem cooking this. Can you not use a tin for cooking this becuz i havent tin :/
Which Microwave mode I can use to make this cake....????????
Pasteurised orange juice has been heated to kill the bugs and alcohol-free white wine is white wine from which all the alcohol has been removed.
