This made me cry, I wasn't even looking for a Christmas cake recipe, a total different recipie, just the look of it made me cry, then as I watched you, and you said making it in November, 😥 my beautiful mum, always did this, and a very similar recipie as yours, she passed away christmas morning at 7am , 5yrs ago this Christmas coming... Gee I miss her, I haven't made a Christmas cake before, she always did the honours, and I haven't eaten any for 5yrs now.. I'm going to give it ago, in honor of my mum, it was always just me and mum growing up, just the 2 of us, we were close, even though money was tight growing up, she always splurged on making this beautiful christmas cake.. I hope I do it justice for my family.. She would of been 76 on 10th Dec 2020.
Awww Shane your comment brought a tear to my eye. It is difficult to lose a loved one on any day of the year but Christmas must be so so heartbreaking. I hope your cake turns out well. I'm sure your mum will be with you, looking over your shoulder to ensure it turns out perfect. Try to enjoy the day, I am sure your mum would not want you to be sad. My kindest wishes to you. Take care
Hi Shane. I am sure you made the cake perfectly, because your heart is in it. Traditions are what make a family and following/ passing them through the generations is what love is. I literally turned into my Grandma and mimic everything she made. You also pick this great channel to make your mom proud!
Hi Shane. So sorry to hear of your mum passing away Christmas day, i know exactly how you feel because i also lost my mother on Christmas morning 20yrs ago after she had been battling emphysema for 12yrs. I couldn't bare Christmas after that, wouldn't put up no decorations or tree and Christmas song's knocks me for six, especially when the day gets closer.
Shane Dear. Losing our loved one is not easy. I too lost my dad last Month. And now it's 5 days before Deepavali. And I am preparing all the cookies and Indian sweets for my children. My late dad always loved my kids and slogged till his last breath for them. When I got a call at 4.30 from the doctor saying. We removed the ventilator to do a scope but your father passed away. I was shattered. I never thought he would die. Perhaps I was thinking my dad is gonna leave forever. Last I saw him in cold hands wrapped in a white cloth. I kissed him and said.. Appa( Dad) you won the race. U go 1st and I'll join u. I miss him everyday. Sorry to story so much here. It's your space actually. I understand how much your mum would have been close with you. She left you with all beautiful moments to cherish. She left you will all good memories to recall. She never left you. Her blessings are always there for you. Cheer up and bring on life to your mothers culture fruit cake. Love y'all. Take care. This Too Shall Pass
I made this Cake in November 20th, 2022. This is my 1st ever Christmas Cake and my first ever cake. Today, on Boxing Day of 2022 I cut into the cake and served a segment to my Wife - who has made our Christmas cake for the last 40 years.......No pressure then! I said nothing to her about ingredients or method and she said: 'This is the best Christmas cake she has ever tasted!' Wow! And I have to agree. She has asked me to bake it next year. 😁. Many thanks for your precise, easy and pleasant video
This is simply the easiest and the BEST Christmas cake EVER - moist, loaded with fruit and alcohol and just delicious. I made one a couple of weeks ago with the intention of saving it for Christmas, sadly my birthday came along a couple of days ago and I couldn't resist it. Over half of it is already devoured and the family LOVES IT! I have my second one in the oven right now with 45 minutes of cooking time left. Thank you so much. All my family and friends are going to use this recipe this year. I feel very festive, decorated for Christmas last weekend, have Xmas music blaring out and a log fire crackling away (courtesy of You Tube on the TV lol). I did make a couple of changes (to fit the ingredients I had in) which have worked really well. Instead of individual portions of dried fruit and cranberries I just used 1kg of mixed dried fruit and I added the glace cherries additionally to the 1kg. I used dark brown sugar instead of light and it has given the cake a very rich, festive look, smell and taste. I also added a teaspoon of vanilla essence and I discovered i had no mixed spice, so I added just a touch more cinnamon and a little bit more all spice (maybe 3/4 teaspoon, I was worried that might have made it taste bitter but not at all!). I didn't have cherry brandy so added whiskey. I guess with this excellent recipe ANYTHING goes and it would be very difficult to mess it up or overcook it at such low temperatures. I gave the postman a slice yesterday and he said it is better than his Gran's - a huge compliment. Seriously BEST CAKE AND METHOD EVER!!!!!! Thank you Kitchen Sanctuary!!
This is recipe my dad used to make our Christmas cake. He got it from his army issued cook book. He was a chef in the Korean war for the Australian guys. Always great memories of this cake. Dad was an excellent cook. Miss him dearly.
Thank you for your lovely recipe! I made mine today - for the third year in a row... What a joy to find a recipe which is so simple to follow - and which comes out perfectly, every time!
Exactly what I was looking for! You even gave the measurements in ounces/cups at the same time so I don't have to hunt for conversions!! And then gave the cooking temperatures in Fahrenheit!!! Thank you VERY MUCH!!!!
Shared this with my dad, he makes many cakes every year, at least 12-14, people are always asking him for cakes at Christmas. This is now his new way of making them.
If you are a bit late in making your cake just bake it and feed it with booze then chuck it in the freezer for a day . Thaw decorate and eat ! The freeze thaw ages the cake nicely
Made 8 of these cakes for the first time this year as family Christmas gifts - have had lots of messages today saying that this was the best Christmas cake they had ever had. Thanks for such a simple and lovely recipe, will definitely make again 🤗🤶
This was the best cake I made. I had my uncles revisit their childhood memories with each bite. It was dense and super delicious. This recipe is now my family favourite dish each christmas.
I never made a cake before - so as I recently bought a new Bravo XL oven I thought "why not try to make a cake" - finding this recipe, and how you explained it so well I decided to go ahead - as everything was in Grams you couldn't miss - cooking the fruit first, make the process easy and safe - judging by all the comments other people found it to really work well - I just wanted to say thank you.
hi. I made this today. Honestly, it is amazing!!! Thank you so much for a fruitcake recipe that definitely does work! I'm so over all the failed recipes i tried to death. This is absolutely divine. It's a winner for all occasions.
I tried your recepie out and it turned out to be my best ever cake! I took the risk of adding just 1 egg instead of 3 since I had run out if eggs, but added half teaspoon of baking soda instead.. thankfully, it came out perfect!! Thank you so much for sharing :)
My mum would marinate all her dried fruits for her fruit cake, in rum for a year!! Let me tell you, her cake had the most fabulous flavors!! She’d light it a-flame with brandy, with all the lights off for effect, and serve it with a delicious hard sauce also brandy infused!! Amazing!!!
Do you mean a Christmas pudding not a cake? You light the pudding but I've never ever heard of anyone lighting the cake, and the cake is usually covered with marzipan and icing. Whatever it sounds delicious.

Hi Nicky, made the cake today,(I know, a bit late). Had trouble sourcing everything, but just wanted to drop a line to say a big thank you, it turned out perfect. If it tastes half as good as it smells, then everyone here will be happy. Thanks again, and Merry Christmas, Happy New Year to You and Your Family.👍👍
Just tried this today. Did a little mini one in a large muffin tray too as a tester. Wow. Thank you for a fantastic recipe and thank you for making it easy to follow. I used to love Christmas cake then I went off them for a while, let me tell you, after tasting this made with Brandy, I'm back in again 🎉 🎄🎅❤️ I was making this for my wife and now myself 😁 I've got one to make for my brother in law (with Jim Beam) and I just know he's going to love it. Thank you from all of us 😉👍❤️🎄🎅❤️
Tried this for the first time this year. Simple and absolutely delicious. Moist and zesty and without any of the faff of soaking & folding etc that usually take ages. This will be my go to recipe from now on.
I made two of these delicious cakes last year and the first of this year's batch is currently in the oven and smells yummy. It looks as good as last year's (fingers crossed). I know this isn't gonna last until the big day but hey, that doesn't matter. Thank you for this simple, perfect recipe. I use dark sugar rather than the light and add whisky instead of cherry brandy but seems to work just as well. 45 minutes to go!!!
My mother died last July 16 and she always baked an xmas cake that looked very like this cake. Now I have to carry on the tradition and bake the xmas cake. It is my first time ever to do this :/
Hello! I've tried your recipe! What can I say to you.... THAT IS AN AMAZING CHRISTMAS CAKE!!! No words to express how I am thankful to you! Trowing you flowers! It is the perfect moist cake you can ever do :D
used to make a similar cake to this for Christmas , except i used a tin of strawberries and a bar of Bournville Dark Chocolate in mine , soaking the dried fruit overnight in brandy , worked out wonderful everytime , so moist and no need to feed it every week , great recipe , my husband loved it , his idea of a slice was not a one inch by three inch , instead it was a slice the whole way across the round cake LOL , I also covered it completely in marzipan and then royal icing , with lots of stand up peaks , as in snow , decorated it with my mum's vintage Christmas cake decorations from the 1940s , Christmas Tree , Santa Claus , Reindeer , Robin etc., carrying the cake with us , on our Christmas Holidays to The Lake District , Cumbria , and The Yorkshire Dales , at Hawes and even over to Roundstone , on the West Coast of Ireland , with a Touring Caravan and 2 cats , my husband died , almost 7 years ago , but your lovely cake recipe , evoked sooooo many happy memories , of times gone by , special magical times !!!!❤🎉😂
I'm 69 now and i remember my man making her Xmas cake and decorating like you and also she used to put those silver balls on it. I used to hate them, they nearly broke your teeth but i loved the cake
You've made me look forward to making a Christmas cake. Plus you've made it look so easy to make ., can't wait to get cracking. THANKYOU....Elaine....and Merry Christmas in advance. Beryl x
Your method reminds me of the method I use for Easter buns. I used this for Christmas cakes it's great.😋thanks for the update dated. Baking buns like this for over 10 years I never thought of making cake like this 🤝
Thank you for this recipe 🙏🙏🙏I just made my very 1st Christmas cake 🍰 🎄🤶today by following your recipe because as you mentioned, need to feed the cake with brandy 🍷👌💕 it cheers me up and feel festive right away in the rainy and windy weather 😊
I just wanna let you know that I’m doing your recipe for the Christmas cake from five years I believe so whatever is showing you post and is the best ever ever ever delicious fruit cake. Thank you for the recipe and merry Christmas Eva from Canada.
This looks like a great recipe, I haven't made a Christmas cake for several years, as I've been caring for my mother through her last year's, which were difficult as she was very ill and frail, she passed away in March of this year, aged 99,and I'm in the process of rejigging my life purpose and making a good Christmas cake is a relevant basic. Thank you for this recipe, will definitely make it, and I feel confident it will prove to be excalent, full of Christmas cheer. God Bless 🙏🏻💖
I always like English desserts. I am making this right now using dried fruit tea with roses in it. Smells so wonderful even before it goes into the oven.
I’ve made this cake for the previous 2 years and it’s absolutely perfect . My favourite recipe ever and I’m 69 so I’ve made a lot of cakes !!! Today I’m about to make it again Keep up the good work ❤
I am on my own now, decided to keep up the traditions for me and my family. Followed you recipe & it looks fine. Can't say how it tastes until Christmas. Thanks for you help.
You can line the bottom of a springform tin by placing the paper over the removable bottom and then closing the side over the bottom as per usual, then cut the excess off and greasing the pan will help keep the paper in place.
Wow! this is the best Christmas cake I ever seen, great ingredients and easy to follow. Thank you for sharing and I'll definitevely going to make it now!. Merry Christmas!
Watched this while eating bought Christmas Cake in May at half past midnight with a tot of rum 🥃. Yum 😋. Thanks. I'll give it a go and surprise the wife. 😁
I am watching this video after it's been uploaded five years back. It's the best video of Christmas cake out of so many I have watched. Thanks for sharing
This is my first time baking..I was looking for a simple Christmas cake recipe..tried this and we absolutely loved it 💜 Thank you so much ma'am and a Merry Christmas to you in advance!
Just made this according to recipe. Not for Christmas but because I e never made a good fruitcake before. The recipe is easy and the cake looks and smells amazing. Thank you 😊
This so reminded me of my late mum and us kids watching her make cakes at Christmas and the house smelling lovely.she even made them for the naibours .And the long wait of waiting to taste them .and me saying are they ready yet🤭.So with the wait x
FABULOUS! made this yesterday and it turned out so good! Im not gonna feed it and we are eating it as is, and it’s so so good. I used sultanas (normal and blonde), cranberries, apricots and sour cherries 😍
I just made it now, it's now cooling after I put 4 tbsp of brandy on top...it will be served in early Feb when I go halfway across the globe to visit my mom, and I will taste it then, but the kitchen now smells heavenly!
What is a good (non-alcohol) substitute for the brandy?
Apple juice, cold black tea or even a strong mixture of ginger cordial and water would work well too.

My go-to Christmas fruit cake every year..❤

You can line the bottom of a springform tin by placing the paper over the removable bottom and then closing the side over the bottom as per usual, then cut the excess off and greasing the pan will help keep the paper in place.
Thanks! I'm going to try that 😊
