Brilliant. I've just done a similar remodel on a GX270 QA model with a 25.4 mm shaft. Grinded the shaft, Cut the shaft, had to drill a 6.5 mm hole and and a thread to it so it matched an 8mm screw to fasten the clutch spring plate. In stead of fitting the turbo washer I cut of the back end of the clutch wheel and the sprocket to make the spacing fit. In the end I had to add a small spacer when mounting the clutch spring wheel, or it would not disengage.
Sweet job! I’m building a kart myself with 16” wheels (total diameter, not rim diameter) and i’m a bit worried my wet clutch will burn up😅. Where did you get the axle kit btw? Looks really good!
Hi. Very interesting insight. What is the engine rpm at which the clutch engages? I have a gx390 sitting for years from another project (hovercraft) and recently I am looking for a way to build a 2 wheel walking tractor. Need to reduce rpms down to 60 on the tractor wheel for walking speed and a clutch is most useful. There are EAP branded gearboxes for GX390 on ali, do you have any info on those? Do they hold? Another option is to go for a regular centrifugal clutch and 2 sets of sprockets to reduce rpms.
For everyone using this clutch on a 1" shaft it's extremely easy to do whenever you simply swap the crankshaft to the correct 25mm one. Way easier than this method by far. You can get a clone 25mm crankshaft for the 270 and 390 for around $30 all day long on ebay.
Thanks for the comment. We are in Australia and this was done during COVID so we had basically no shipping timeframes, waiting over 8 months for some things to be delivered at the time. So a simple swap, which would have been awesome, was just out of the question at the time.
Climb hills? Definitely. It's no rock-bouncer, though! We're currently in a snap COVID lockdown so will be taking it out next weekend and hit the boggy patch, that we got stuck in previously (th-cam.com/video/Hvn24YP7uVY/w-d-xo.html), to see how it fares.
Never mind after watching the video I realized that it wasn't. That was my question to begin with is how did you get it to work with a 1-inch shaft. Noram sells one for a 1-inch shaft but they are $$$$
Watching a DIY install video for a go-kart clutch and you're worried about the man's camera skills 🤔 might not want to worry about working on anything mechanical if you're that sensitive 🤣

Yeah they're not 'bolt on' for anything, really!
New reduction box video coming soon.

Well done for your commitment 😂

What oil did you use ? I have the same engine/ transmission setup and the transmission oil just started to boil and the clutch lasted 5 minutes…
Straight SAE30. Worked a treat.
Interested to see more of this wet clutch. Will it climb?

What clutch would fit to connect to a go kart the entry is bigger than the clutch I have
oil will leak and not very strong 4 bolts with snap..i make my different how you did...but any way good vedio bro
It's been super reliable since, haven't had a problem. No leaks or seal issues whatsoever. New update coming this weekend.
Is that engine a 25mm shaft?

Yeah super bucks for those.
Was cheaper and not very hard to turn it down to a 25mm
I'm traumatized , move the camera back away from your faces ! omg pls.
