We fixed the bump steer on the rack and pinion!
After smashing the rack on a fence post, we replaced it and relocated the lower arm pivots and extended the top and bottom arms.
Geometry is fixed!
It's stable at speed and soaks up the bumps like it should - we stretched the legs of the GX390 clone so much that we burnt the clutch out!

    Hi, I bought a zongshen bike out of a scrap yard for £40 last year, me and a friend got it running and it sounded good, took it out a few times but it has developed a ticking noise or clicking noise at the top of the engine, it still runs good and plenty of power am just wondering would you know what the sound could be?

    Hi. Very interesting insight. What is the engine rpm at which the clutch engages? I have a gx390 sitting for years from another project (hovercraft) and recently I am looking for a way to build a 2 wheel walking tractor. Need to reduce rpms down to 60 on the tractor wheel for walking speed and a clutch is most useful. There are EAP branded gearboxes for GX390 on ali, do you have any info on those? Do they hold? Another option is to go for a regular centrifugal clutch and 2 sets of sprockets to reduce rpms.

    I have to say these are pretty sturdy non complicated engines, I have one in my quad and its never skipped a beat, serviced it a few times and it just fires up every time. Good luck with this one, the parts are pretty cheap and lasts very long. It's very nice for a go-kart/mini cross kart.

      At the time we could only get a TAV30 locally, whereas this really needs the extra from a TAV40 and the wait time on those due to shipping was huge - these were in stock locally, so we just ran with a wet clutch.

  • @BubbaB43
    @BubbaB43 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    It looks like all you had to do is remove the dust cover boots on each side then remove both enter ball joints from the rack and then put spacers between the ball joint and rack on both sides (basically moving the tie rod pivot point out wide enough so that it's in line with the existing upper and lower control arm pivot points). They make any length tie rod end spacer you can think of for like $5 a piece. Another way would be a longer rack but you already had that one I'm sure.

    For everyone using this clutch on a 1" shaft it's extremely easy to do whenever you simply swap the crankshaft to the correct 25mm one. Way easier than this method by far. You can get a clone 25mm crankshaft for the 270 and 390 for around $30 all day long on ebay.

    • @justkartbuilds4710
      @justkartbuilds4710 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the comment. We are in Australia and this was done during COVID so we had basically no shipping timeframes, waiting over 8 months for some things to be delivered at the time. So a simple swap, which would have been awesome, was just out of the question at the time.

  • @pihl1979

    Brilliant. I've just done a similar remodel on a GX270 QA model with a 25.4 mm shaft. Grinded the shaft, Cut the shaft, had to drill a 6.5 mm hole and and a thread to it so it matched an 8mm screw to fasten the clutch spring plate. In stead of fitting the turbo washer I cut of the back end of the clutch wheel and the sprocket to make the spacing fit. In the end I had to add a small spacer when mounting the clutch spring wheel, or it would not disengage.

      Hi John. Thanks for the kind words. The GIO 250 looks similar (but not identical) externally and if the engine code starts with ZS then it's a Zongshen. You may find a few differences though - it could be a little different because it's a second or third generation motor, versus mine which is one of the first gens out of a comet. Good luck though!
