If you go back and read the words to this beautiful song. Maybe? tomorrow... or next month or even years from now? You will realize what true deep unconditional love this song describes. When you give your heart to another human and be ok with having a dance with that person for the rest of your life? Is something all humans should feel. In your eyes describes it perfectly. "Through all those fruitless searches" or "in your eyes, I am complete". This song has touched many a soul and helped a few people shed tears...tears of joy. In the end....we all just wanna be loved.

I'm 46 years old. I used my allowance to buy the cassette tape of Peter Gabriel's So album when I was 11 years old because of the song Sledgehammer. Then I heard In Your Eyes. To this day I consider it one of the greatest songs of all time. Fundamentally it's about Love. No matter if you're religious, atheist, in love with someone, or just lost and trying to find your way, you can connect with this song. I hope now that you've heard it you guys can carry it with you like I have.

Continue your Peter Gabriel journey with "Solsbury Hill," "Come Talk to Me," "Sledgehammer" (do yourselves a favor and watch the music video, and remember there *were* no music videos like that at the time it was made), "Big Time," and "Kiss That Frog" for a bit of silliness. "Shaking the Tree" also hits the African vibe some more.
I"m 99 percent certain the woman onstage is Paula Cole, who's worth checking out in her own right. She's probably best known for contributing the theme song to Dawson's Creek, but that's not where I'd start; go for "Where Have All the Cowboys Gone?" or "Me" first. (Or "Throwing Stones" if that one passes parental muster.)
Paul Simon also did some work with African artists, which to me comes through strongest in "Diamonds on the Soles of Her Shoes," "Homeless" and "Under African Skies."

    • @brianshoman1723

You should make sure to try out Paula Cole’s debut album, Harbinger. It came out right about the time she was doing this tour (and right after, she was Sarah McLachlan’s opening act). Harbinger is phenomenal, but it was badly promoted, and the company that produced it went bust. She ended up still being eligible for the Best New Artist Grammy when her second album came out.

He has a lot of great songs. Salsbury Hill , is a favorite of mine, Games Without Frontiers is another great track, Biko which is a song paying honor to Steve Biko who was murdered after he spoke out against the racist South African government

The entire concert video of "Secret World Live" is excellent. I've got the CD's from the concert and even had the DVD at one point. You want to do another song from this you'll need to watch "Secret World" itself. Great song, and you get to hear Paula Cole really belt it out. Also, when she does the secondary vocal on "Don't Give Up" you'll see her at ther best.
Btw, you two are to young to know/realize this. This song is a love song to another person. Give it about 10 years and after you have met someone you have deep love for you'll understand the meaning of the phrase "The light, the heat... in your eyes. I am complete."

When it can realize within us, and connect these small portals of open ears, open hearts and minds, Peter Gabriel is a paramount to our embrace together; an appreciation of and dedication to any revelation from the group, GENESIS. The letter you have read from the most amazing Stuart from Scotland, can only describe the truth about how music holds us all to a standard that connects us, and does not separate us in any form. We area able to do this without any hesitation... and can only hope that what we feel during this separation can break the insidious amplitude that portends our death. Live on, through the music you react to! You two. Live. hope. Thank you. /Appreciate you both, and the influence your Dad has had in your open embrace holding so much great music here.
Thank you from my small place in this universe. I've been living here for 56 years now, ever since that first connection I built myself, from a block of wood, a crystal, a safety pin, and some copper wire, and a tuning plate of tin... just so I could listen to music under my pillow all night, when I was age eleven. Live Forever, this is how we do it. Thank you again, for the connection.

@@3YearsApart1613 Thank you, I am humbled. It will be a serendipitous adventure, one that I hope to follow, and live in - this ever growing inspiration through a tenuous connection, we hear in our hearts together, as music. It grows and is only fed by our continued listening, this appreciation, this dance we all do together, across the globe we call Earth, we call our home.
I'm on it, with you. *Repetition* - yep, I love you guys! In my personal early musical taste, I also love Genesis, YES, and RUSH, and Pink Floyd and Joni Mitchell ,and Kate Bush, and Suzanne Vega. This small surface, now scratched; there are so many hundreds more avenues of grooves we can embrace. I love my album collection and my turntable. If I look only into the 1980's, there is a monstrous gathering of fantastic musical discoveries held within this decade. Perhaps, one day - sooner than I might think - a letter your way. Love and Music! /cheers.

Always nice to see another generation picking up on great music from my day. I saw Peter Gabriel on the tour before this one, when "In Your Eyes" was a new song. Youssou N'Dour was the opening act, and for this song (last song of the night), Youssou N'dour, his entire band, and his dozen or so Senegalese dancers joined Peter Gabriel for an extra-special conclusion to a special concert. Wish you could've been born to see it; profoundly grateful that I was. Please keep on doing what you're doing, it makes us oldies proud.

It's rare that I am ever pleasantly surprised by a concert version of a song and "In Your Eyes" is a song I am familiar with and like very much. I really enjoyed watching this video and loved the song as they did it hear. Speaking of "In Your Eyes", I watched both of you and loved the intensity in your eyes as you watched, those wonderful brains soaking in all the video had to offer. I also love that you're seeing how diverse people can come together with all sorts of varied talents to combine and make something beautiful. This is going to be a vital aspect of your future living in this world if humanity is to move forward successfully. I hope you see, appreciate and internalize all that you saw in this video. For my own part, I will be watching for when Peter Gabriel comes through Toronto so that I can go see him live as I haven't made the effort so far even though I've learned to enjoy his music.

I like to share my knowledge of music with people especially kids because yes they may not get the deeper meaning of a lot of songs but they will learn just like I did.

Gabriel never disappoints. From his early days in Genesis to his last album, he has produced music that is extraordinary. He has also done so much to promote world music and art over the past decades. A true innovator and artist. Not to mention his part in the downfall of apartheid in South Africa, check out the song "Biko". A hero if ever there was one.
If you like the African influence you really should check out Paul Simon's album, "Graceland"

In my many years I've been pass through to listen extremist music genre like Metal and almost my ears been rip off and my soul is been in flames of fire just to listen all kinds of Metal genre. But this, it's peaceful and relaxing song I've ever heard. Anyway it's a good song to listen once in awhile and nice reaction. GodBless and take your time, youngsters.. Monday Afternoon. :) from 🇵🇭

This is yet another iconic 80s song. Was featured in quite a few movie but most notably Say Anything with John Cusack. You know the scene....a guy in the rain standing outside of his loves home with radio over his head. Ask your Dad...he knows what I'm talking about.
Peter Gabriel is super talented whether he was with Genesis or as a solo he has an amazing category of songs. Check out Sledgehammer! You'll get a kick out of the video

Just a simply remarkable song. The live versions just got better and better over the years. Definitely a crowd favorite. Alot of information for the kids to react to which they did a phenomenal job! My suggestion to Claire and Walker is to listen to the album SO in its entirety. Fantastic album!

Supper's Ready by Genesis is an amazing song and the live version shows Peter Gabriel go through costume changes (including a flower head) and a cool flute solo. It's a little long for a reaction (23 minutes), but whether you react to it or not, you must see it at least once in your life.

I know he shaved the center of his head to draw attention and wore some wild costumes, but that's it. He put green UV makeup around his eyes during Watcher Of The Skies - maybe that's what you are referring to?
